Well the latest copy of Edge dropped thru the mail today, and after I've torn the plastic cover off a beautiful shot of Out Run stares back at me - so far so good :)

I'm a massive Out Run fan and one day I WILL own a mint example of the original sit down cab... but anyway I digress...

So I immediately flick to the pages covering the main article and much to my annoyance I find that the conversion will be X-Box only! Arrrgagh!! :(

On the positive side Edge reports the game appears to be virtually arcade perfect (so a big w00t for Out Run fans who have X-Box's)

Now I cannot abide Microsoft at all, and hate the X-Box with a passion, but what do I do now? I need this game... I have a DC, PS2 and GC but they will be of no use to me, even if I nail them all together to make the worlds 1st 384 bit console...
So, do I bite my tongue, be a hypocrite and buy an X-Box upon Out Run 2's release or do I cause myself just as much pain by blanking out the fact that a home version of this amazing sequel exists?

Answers on a postcard...

BTW - conversion looks awesome! :D Elsewhere Viewtiful Joe 2 previewd along with Paper Mario 2 and Biohazard Outbreak 2; Red Dead Revolver reviewed, Samurai 20XX slated, RE: Outbreak critiscised, Galleon reviewed (looks dated already)... oh and KoF: MI for PS2 is previewed too :)

It's odd that when the game was first announced for the home systems, they had said it was only a PS2 title. Now it's only for xbox.

It makes sense since it's running on xbox hardware in the arcade, and a port would be easy to do.

Quite frankly, it's plain stupid to have hate for an inanimate object, such as a game console. Okay, it's made by Microsoft and they suck a big fat dick. Get over it. Fork over your money and buy a really great gaming machine. Hey, I put hard earned money (well, traded) for a piece of shit PS2 just so I could play all these great new shmups. Well worth it.

Just play the damn games.

It's only a piece of hardware. It's not like it's a neo geo. And they are dirt cheap. Pick one up, play Outrun 2, and try not to let MS get you down. If i'm not mistaken, and unless you use OSX (or linux), you are likely typing this message out on a MS Windows machine. Give up the grudge, to quote a shity song.

I thought Outrun 2 will appear on PS2 ............US release (correct me if I'm wrong)

There is no harm to get Xbox........How can you miss those great Sega games like Panzar Dragoon Orta, HOTD 3, etc. on Xbox?

I'm still waiting for Virtua Cop 3......... :mad_2:
Damn you Sega, I want this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the same thing about Xbox, it was stupid.. but more and more cool games came out and made it worth a purchase. And now I own like 30 xbox games.

Yup, using OSX... must upgrade to Panther... Do you think they'll make a Pippin version??

In the article (which is quite comprehensive) Edge speaks to both Sega and the code shop responsible for the conversion (being done in the UK :D ) and there was catagorically no mention of a PS2 release for any territory. Out Run 20XX will be out for PS2 in Japan later this month but that's just an update - not the sequel. In fact Sega almost canned a home release saying they didn't think it could be pulled off to an acceptable standard...

Guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet on this... Well I ain't getting a box till the game comes out... :loco:

True - sometimes you just gotta swallow your pride, and just do it for the games. That's why I'll be whoring myself out now that the PS2 has dropped to $149.

xbox is a good system.
may as well pick up the rest of the SEGA exclusives on it too like
gunvalkrye, crazy taxi 3, house of the dead 3, shen mue II, otogi, JSF and whatever
else I may be forgetting.
not a bad system at all if not just for those games.
outrun 2 and virtua cop 3 are going to be fucking great.
I can't wait. I hope they sell well.

Although I'd prolly buy Virtua Cop 3 (if there's a decent light gun for X-Box, like Namco's G-Con 2), I'm not really interested in any of the other Sega games you mention. I had Shenmue 2 on DC and got bored with it, got Crazy Taxi on DC too... the others... don't care :p

This is one thing I don't like about sega's multiformat strategy. they only release a game on one system (HOTD 3, Crazy Taxi 3, PD Orta, Billy Hatcher, monkey ball). I really don't understand why they can't be a true multiformat company and release there games across all systems. I think they have only done that with sonic heroes (never played it but heard it sucks).

I have all 3 current consoles so that way I can be sure I won't miss a good game because of its exclusivility. Anyway PS2 is the one that is getting less playtime, Metal Gear 3 is basically the only exclusive game that interests me.

I'm glad Outrun 2 is being brought to the xbox. A PS2 port would have been way inferior to the original. Due to the hardware the arcade game is on, the xbox would be perfect, with more extra modes. At first they announced this for PS2 due to the xbox lack of sales in Japan, but fortunately enough they changed their mind.

I am with Amano.. I have all the systems.

I like the way that Sega releases dedicated software... Makes it more interesting and allows the developer to push a machine and get one with new software without worying about conversions or compromises... That means they can write more games.

This as never going on anything other than XBox, the hardware is an Xbox.

Meanwhile Tarma, buy an Xbox... IMO its the best console at the moment (although I still have a soft spot for the cube), I wasn't going to get one for similar reasons to you but the wife bought me one as a gift... Its better to get the experiences of all the great Xbox stuff than go through life hating the company.

I hate SONY more anyhow (but I still have a PS1 & PS2).

Buy an Xbox, buy Outrun 2 and live happily ever after!!!

Oh - forgot to say... The PS2 is boxed up at the moment and the Dreamcast comes off the shelf more than the PS2.

Ninja Gaiden came out in the UK today, that's the 2nd reason you'll need.

Play games, not systems.

Spending 149 bucks to play outrun 2 is cheaper than spending 15 grand on the cabinet.

Out Run 2 is not coming to the PS2... either you got confused with the Sega Ages Out Run release, or you bought into that Amazon UK listing.
And as for Virtua Cop 3, I want it, too. I think the only reason why Sega isn't doing it is because they got burned with House of the Dead 3, sales and reviews wise.
And if you get Xbox Live... well, as soon as I get Live, I'll kick anyone's ass on Project Gotham 2. ;)

I don't have house of the dead 3 yet, although I may pick it up soon. It was a shame they changed the graphical style. The early shots of it were cel shaded but the uproar it caused from "fans" forced them into changing it back, but it still bombed anyway. shame. I always preferred virtua cop tho. still waiting for 3 damn it!
