The Korean Starmax version is original, I own one myself. Cool movie, buy it up.

Thats weird...usually any DVD with region ALL is a bootleg...I know htat Play Asia has the real one...

Yes, thats the boot. It's a very high quality boot, too. If you're going to buy the boot version you can get the same one off of amazon.com (seriously) and save a couple bucks. It's the same movie.

That's strange because Amazon doesn't sell it (the 2 DVD set director's cut), they are selling the region 1 (??!?), and there's basically no other place where I could find the Director's Cut.

I can't even find the Japanese region 2 version which is the original (or at least should be). All I'm finding are region 3 stuff which I'm more than worried about.

It's a shame that Asia has so many great movies but so many bootleggers :(

Anyway, once I get it I'll know for sure. I mean, if the quality is as great as the original, I don't mind for one movie.

Btw, region free doesn't equal boot because all porn movies are region free ;).

The movie is on amazon. Type in Battle Royale under DVD, and the first two sellers are dealfinder77 and stiller66 (I got mine through him a while back). It's running for about $17.99. It is the Korean 2 disc director's cut set.

However, with a ~$24 price tag and a mention of 2 DVDs, it's still until I get it that I'll be able to know... Well then, any good places that only sells originals?

Try Dash no Chris's site: Hoteiyalv.com and shoot him a e-mail.

The site itself hasn't been updated in a while so the best way to find out if the store has a copy in stock is talking via e-mail, or if the store dosen't have it in stock he could tell you the best places to get legit region2/3.

orginally based on a manga, Battle Royale is a thought experiment, where one takes a an idea to it's logical conclusion. Kinda like Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal". The idea is: Japan has a shitload of terrible problems now, like rudeness and poor dental hygene. So the Japanese government, behaving like it usual, dosen't actually do anything about it and instead places the blame on highschoolers. The gov desides to punish the worst class of each paticular year by putting them through the "Battle Royale." It's a last man standing type contest, where the highschoolers are put into a deserted island and each given an "item" of varying usefulness. They are supposed to kill each other and the last one alive is the "winner."

Watch the movie if you like Japanese action/suspense type movies, teen angst, and lots and lots of brutal violence.

If I could make a suggestion, before you see the movie to read the novel. It is some of the fastest 600 pages you will ever read. While I found the movie good, and somewhat faithful to the book, you'll be left feeling like the movie went too quickly. The movie literally goes off like a machine gun. The book takes care to describe everything that's happening to you, and really keeps you going from beginning to end, describing everything that goes on in their heads as well as on the island. I've read the novel, watched the movie and I'm reading the manga as it gets translated to English. They all tell the story in very different ways, the manga having the most shocking levels of sex and violence. They change a few things around between each translation, and each form is enjoyable, but I personally like the novel best.

Yeah, and make sure you watch the second one, but take it with a a grain of salt...

Just got the DVD and if it's a boot then I'll cut my pinky off ;). Everything is like battleroyalefilm.com described. The carton like box came with it, I even try to scratch off the writing on it and it wouldn't go away which prove to me that it wasn't just printed cheaply.

Anyhow, thanks to all for your help.
