I dont think Im going with either the PSP or the DS.. Im not paying $200 and imo it isnt worth it. The PSP is a portable PS2... wheres the innovation and the DS imo is hideous.... Sigh.

would you buy a 'famicom' DS tho? or how about the one with the huge plastic pikachu stuck on the top (ok those aren't 'official' yet, but give it a few months).

I hope this doesnt get fucked on and continues, its a good source for debate.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS, lead be completely to the DS, purely on an intrigue level latterly, but more so excitement at the games shown.

Hopefully by the time PSP is ready to roll some more "interesting" games will be touted, right now though i'm blown away by Nintendo.

Good stuff.

THe real bummer though is the battery life on the PSP. What is this crap about 2.5 hours of life when playing games? Are they nuts? I can't see how that is gonna go over well. 10 hours if you listen to just music.

I hope with the DS you can turn off the bottom screen, as it looks a little distracting.

The DS' design is horrible in my humble opinion. Super Famicom is the prettiest system Ninendo ever made.

But the systems are different enough to warrant success in both cases. I have a slight feeling that the DS will be the system of choice for committed gamers, while the PSP will be more attractive to the rest of the demographic.
I just don't see the design grabbing casual gamer's attention. Having the GBA already out and doing well... it will probably work against Nintendo.

Ofcourse I will want to get both. The thing about portability as was mentioned in another thread, is that it becomes quite redundant when most of the time you play it you do so at home. And I can assure you that playing either on a bus or train in these parts will result in a swift confiscation.

If Nintendo delivers what they're promising, I'll be getting a DS.

PSP would have to get some really great games for me to buy one. I'm not big on handhelds in general, so DS will probably be enough.

Is the design on the DS final? It looks more like a prototype, especially since they haven't even announced a general release date. (Also, I hope there is an option of using the d-pad instead of the stylus for some games, as Metroid in 3D with a stylus just doesn't seem comfortable).

I'll go after the Nintendo machine way a Sony machine - Nintendo simply has more great games, while Sony has a ton of pretty good games. Not to mention the fact that the psp will probably self-destruct within the first 6 weeks.

ha!

neither is worth the cash. The DS has an interesting concept, but Nintendo never gets REALLY REALLY good 3rd party games, plus what's up with N64 specs (see USA today)?? The PSP is neat, but damned expensive to maintain....think of battery consumption: LCD screen, processors, sound, and spinning the little discs (although high storage) is ridiculous power consumption unless they are using a single run style setup akin to Sega's Naomi 2's dimm board

I'm going with PSP on this one. I have no doubt that Nintendo will make great games but so far everything on the DS has been First-Party Support. It needs more than that.

This is the third-party support Sony has got for the PSP so far

Along with the unveiling of the final PSP hardware at its E3 press conference today, Sony Computer Entertainment America released a complete accounting of developers and publishers signed on to support its new handheld platform. The total list of companies adds up to close to 100 outfits working with the system, although Sony sneakily duplicated a few across territories for its official list.

The list, for your perusal, is as follows. Note that not all of the companies in question have games in the works (although several certainly do, given Sony's trailer of PSP titles today), but all are on board to support the system at this stage.

Everyone talks about sony stuff not being reliable but I've never had a problem with any of the sony stuff that I own....maybe I just "missing out" in a good way.

DS is definitely in the lead.

Sony has done nothing but provide specs and minimal coverage on the games announced for it (Wipeout AND Ridge Racer anyone?).

Nintendo is leading because of the blitzkrieg of games already shown.

Have you looked at the DS stuff? While Sony has a fairly nice line up of developers, DS has quite a few as well, and ironically enough has more 3rd party games announced and shown at E3. Square Enix is already on board with three titles if that gives you any idea. The only developer that seems to have a stronger PSP showing is Konami, simply because of Metal Gear Solid.

Ahahahaha, 100 companies already signed on to the Nintendo DS, and more games have been announced for it. Nintendo has poor 3rd party support?

Hah, the GBA has the best dev support of anything. Even MS-owned companies like Rare support it.

You Nintendo haters make me laugh.
