Nope, Sony is will continue their dominance with the PS3, and they will only gain more control as the PSP will be the handheld to own in a year or so.

Things will not change, Sony is the king.

How in the world will you announce that?

Nintendo rep: Starting in 3 months we are firing all our 3d programmers, and making a new 2D-only system. We will promote fierce competition with our rival Sega who is releasing a similar console with an equally vicious campaign. Will they really do what we don't? After 15 years, we shall see.

Meanwhile, trade-ins of Gamecubes and 5 games are good for $60 towards the new HNES: Hyper Nintendo Entertainment System.

Also, we are hiring new developers to make very good arcade games, on such a good hardware that the ports will be a bit inferior.

actually... the psp will not dominate the handheld market.
In fact, they will survive in the handheld market, but honestly... they willl be hurting a bit.

Just curious... where is Nintendo bringing the pain?

and what was Sega's big announcement? I missed it or somethng.

I beg to differ.

16-bit era = Super Famicom + Megadrive + Neo Geo = Golden Age

I'd say those were "glory days".

Sony sucks!

It's true. Sony does indeed suck.

The only reason I even own a PS2 is because all the damn shooters get released on it in Japan. That and a handful of exclusive titles are the only thing keeping my PS2 powered on. Hardware wise, it's a piece of shit. Nintendo and Sega make much better hardware.

God I hope Sony eventually just dies off as far as the gaming industry is concerned. I know, I know. Just wishful thinking...

The Nintendo DS pretty much OWNED the PSP in its showing. Metroid Prime hunters alone took the portable show.

Ask virtually any arcade operator who was in business at the time. The NES was the first blow to the arcades and a rather painfull one at that.

I understand it was a very lively and profitable time for arcade ops and vendors.

I wasn't alive either, and I don't think pong is glorious, however seeing my old timer arcade op friend tear up when he reminisces about 'the glory days' is quite unsettling.

I love movies with scenes in arcades...

It really helps me place the exact time period.

Like Blood Sport, Donnie Darko, Dude Where's My Car, etc... of the top o me head

Sorry, I won't ask anyone. I don't care how much money the arcade makes or how much the home industry makes. What is important is how much money I make,,,and I didnt make any in the 1970s.

It's not important how much you make.

The golden age was at that time. I could reference several books that refer to it as such, however that would take work and I'm in the middle of some homework that needs completing so I can graduate and make money Neh?

what's really important is that I can't play any games that came out before the NES anymore.

Atari games are a complete drag.

Sorry, as a university student, I cannot accept your answer without proper referencing.

Regardless, something tells me that these so called books about videogame history are biased by the people that write them; sexless bald fatsos stuck in the 70s.

Sure, they will acknowledge the rest of videogame "history", but something tells me that they cannot appreciate the stuff past NES. I dont know if its jealousy of the japanese out-doing the americans, or a rose tinted goggles thing, but...forget it.

I'm right; I didn't make any money in the 70s. Case Closed.

The 'edgy' approach lost its gleam long ago. Just for you, I'll see what I can't dig up since you're a university student and all and require vast storerooms of knowledge. So does being a university student also require you to forgo the experiences of others? I may be a lowly 'college' student, however i think the experiences of others holds some merit, albeit a small one since I didn't make any money when they were kicking around.

Atari was a fucking mess. They are lucky they made as much money as they did. Luckily competent people came in with a much improved product and ushered in the true golden age: Nintendo.

God, I fucking hate Nintendo. But you have to respect them. You can't respect Atari. All that is left of them is a name and a logo. Glory days my fucking ass.

Thats a laugh. PS3 will break down with in 3 months of buying it as with the PSP just like all the other sony systems. Not to mention sony has crap for games. And a handfull of good ones.

PSP = Piece (of)Shit Portable

It's not edgy at all. More tounge in cheek. Relax.
