The regulars in the chat room know of my many misadventures and clashes with my managers at my work. For those who don't know here's what's going on in a nutshell:

I hate my GM. He treats me like a child and talks down to me.

Working in retail blows.

Once upon a time the Hard Rock was a fun place to work.

Now here's the current situation...

I'm facing suspension due to a $100 shortage in my bank from yesterday. However, this Thursday I have an interview for a liquor runner/barback position at the Venetian Hotel/Casino. I love doing runner-type shifts as I keep on my feet and it lets the time go by quickly. Besides I really like making drinks for customers.

The question at hand... what should I do if this suspension goes through??

Take a dump on the floor where everyone can see it and cause a huge ruckus... Then nonchalantly go to work for another week before giving your two weeks.

Do a "George Costanza". That is, drive around the parking lot in your car, shouting insults regarding the business and management via a megaphone. That should do it.

Gah! I was just gonna say that! ;)

Seriously, this would work in real life.

Just give two weeks' notice. Don't go postal and set a bomb off in the casino i.e. Rush Hour 2. You're better than that, mija.

I'd wait until you have something definite lined up and then quit like that guy in the movie 'Half Baked': "F*ck you, f*ck you, f*ck you, f*ck you... you're cool... and F*CK YOU."

Of course, a lot of employers like to talk to your last boss to see how you got along with everyone, so maybe it's better to curb your rage temporarily.

how about we say you gave your two weeks
but you forget to tell them.
then you can have a surpise party on your way out.
yay!

don't feel bad.
managers in those jobs are used to people up and quiting anyways.
not a big deal.
I would only care if my friends working there would have to cover for my ass.

Domino, you never, NEVER burn bridges in this town. :shame: Give your two weeks once you know you are a hired for the new job. Your GM could be your boss again five years from now. You never know in the casino industry.

I've often found the wisdom of "make sure to leave your two weeks" is somewhat overrated. Give two weeks, but be willing to call out your last couple of days if your old job mistreats you any more. ;)

Sounds like sage advice.

I voted for 2 week notice anyway, its always smart to play it cool since you never know who you know now might become important to you later (it could be a coworker rather than a boss).

Get a rep for a level head.

Give your two weeks notice. *But on the side in the twilight of night {however much that might be in the lit up neon jungle of Vegas} key the dude's car or something on "general principle", let some air out his tires or something. Of course if you two are known to buck head you'd be the first suspect though. If not and you've more or less keep your cool, then I'd say some form of "FUCK YOU" is in effect. ---Some might say that's petty, and it is, but it's the principle of the matter. I once worked in a 4 star Japanese restaurant here in SATX as a waiter... treated everyone fairly and busted my ass. But I got this one patron who was a real T-SHIRT. Trying to impress his less than impressive horizontal refreshment for the night no less, and he's cussing out the other wait staff, and giving me shit left and right even though I was ontop of everything. Son of a bitch then tried to trip me when I had a tray full of someone's food. That was the final straw.

I had to take the garbage out that night, an entire crew had to go out to do this though, so with them as cover I went to work on his BMW, that I knew was his because I NOTICE everything. I saw him drive up, then decide to park in the back. The dude left an hour later, but when he did he stormed back in there wanting to know who fucked with his car. No one said shit because the bastid had it comming. If I'd had more time I'd have set fire to his car, because fucks like that deservere to be hit where they feel it the most. I remember one of the waitresses wanted to take a shit in his convertabile {idiot left the top down at that} but we didn't think she'd have enough time. Turns out she'd have had enough time to defacate all over the upholstery after all. Though I guess Vegas might be different though, so you might just want to take some of the more level headed answers.

give your 2 weeks notice and watch how all of a sudden your superiors act like this was a complete surprise and they don't know how they'll get by without an amazing worker like yourself...

I can't tell you how many times a-hole supervisors change their tune when they get your resignation...friggin hypocrites...but at least you can watch 'em bend over backwards trying to placate you... :D

@Merc: y'know it always amazed me how some people feel the need to treat people in the service industry like crap, but it boggles my mind when they do this to people who HANDLE THEIR FOOD...unless they like their order with a side of loogie (or that one story I heard of one guy pissing in the pickle jar at McDonald's years ago)...good for you for putting that little preppie punk in his place...

I hear that, I'm always very gracious to people in the service industy cause I know how much it sucks and how under appreciated they are as well.

Does it hurt to say 'thank you"? WTF.

I've got to agree with SouthtownKid on this one, and with the opinions of Dinodoedoe and Bobak. Tough things out at the Hard Rock (while not letting'em know it's getting to you) until your new job is a lock, then give your 2 weeks notice. In this town, being employed at all -- let alone having a job you enjoy (which is how this Venetian job sounds) -- is a big deal. No sense jeopardizing your potential new (and better) job for the sake of giving the finger (literally or figuratively) to a bunch of fucks who aren't worth the sweat of your brow in the first place.

Exactly,

And then, when they're not looking, slip powdered-crushed glass in their food.

Give two weeks.

you don't need bad karma.

Do things properly, you may regret it in the future if you follow your emotions.

I had the same problem except in retail. What I did was looking for another job somewhere else. Then when you get it wait a few days until you know you like it. After that give your two weeks.

... But after my boss kept getting worse and worse I didn't even stay until the end of the first week :loco: .

I voted "Go Riot of the Blood" because I want to see pictures. Post them here, we get the scoop first.

But seriously, never burn bridges until you know the other bank of the river isn't a cliff. It's the first rules of seeking employment, you always cover your back before you put in your resignation.
