I just got my rental from Gamefly, and man oh man is it good.

Ok...

...guys...

...stop laughing already...

...seriously...

Look, let me ask you this. Do you like Devil May Cry? If you said yes, then give Van Helsing at least a rent.

Those who already have the game, feel free to jump in and comment. I just started playing, so I don't have much to say other than, many thanks to Vivendi Universal (they're responsible for Metal Arms, and I know many of you like that game).

/me - goes back to playing Van Helsing...

Hah! That's perfect.

The reviewer from the Star-Tribune emailed me back (agreeing with my observation about 2-system gamers and Van Helsing) and asked me what I would've done to rephrase that last point -I said "If you think movie plots should be more like video game plots, add 50,000". Apparently that held true because Van Helsing appears to have been a video game-turned-movie in disguise...

The voice actors they use in the game sound just like actors from the movie. And so far it follows the movie story line just the same, no carl though :crying:

Hugh Jackman does his own voice in this one. So Far, I dig the game. Not perfect, but by far the best "movie Game" I have ever played!

I've been playing this game during downtime at work and I have to admit I've been REALLY enjoying the game. I'm normally one to just totally scoff at a movie based game but after the fight with Mr. Hyde and seeing the cinematic of the first stage I couldn't put it down.

I especially love the grappling hook and how it can be used in other ways besides swinging around. During the second stage when the skeletons would pop out, I'd bust out with the grappling hook like my name was Scorpion and yank em to me then wallop em with an uppercut. Get over here! :buttrock:

Anywho...I might have to pick this title up here soon (as soon as I can figure out how I can afford La Pucelle first).

No, it's really not. Actually, it's terrible. And I should know, seeing as how I was a tester on that piece of crap for months. They basically took the idea of Devil May Cry, took out all of the cool moves, gave him horrible new ones, made the stages incredibly boring and gave the color palette a whopping three colors: brown, dark brown and black. Ugh.

I respect your opinion (I'm not getting the game anyway), but I have to ask: if you're a playtester its seems that just about any game they give you will seem really stupid when you're through. Over-and-over-and-over trying to "break" it for what, weeks? :loco:

"Hey Bill, want to play Halo 2? I just got it!"
"NO!!! Get that fucking game out of my sight! Never! You hear me? Fuck you!"

That happens frequently, but this game just wasn't fun from the start. Simpsons: Hit and Run I also tested on, and while we all HATED it when it was over, we still could all agree that the game itself was pretty damn fun, and our constant exposure to every nook and cranny had just colored our view. I mean it got to the point where we knew every single line every single character would say in every single instance. At that stage, whenever Homer said, "I don't have insurance!" while I'm doing a mundane collision-spot check, I felt like chucking the controller through the TV.

But, yeah, apparently people are liking this thing (From the looks of this thread), so more power to you if you enjoy it. But maaaan, I just don't see it.

the game couldn't possibly be worse than the movie.

I mean, that would take serious intentional effort.

The GBA version is terrible.

Hope the console version is better than what I just played.

3/4 view pre-rendered graphics crap.

That's true of any movie/show-license based gba game I've ever seen.
