I know most of you guys say that the PSX sucked at 2d , But was there games
that made you want to own this system
for me it was Tekken 2-3 , Metal Gear Solid, Tenchu , Ridge Racer type 4.
I know there were better games but these are the titles that got me intrested
in this system .

Altough I don't like Sony systems, I loved R-Type Delta very much.

You can have a bunch of nice shooters, but most of them are better on the Saturn.

The psx cant do 2d.......misconception.

It can, very well, we see the saturn s superior with its "upgrade", but to say the sony cant do 2d is idiotic. It does 2d better than any console before it, at times eclipsing the saturn.

Also to dissmiss it as "popular cultrure" is a lewd notion......yes it IS a part of popular culture, but like popular culture dictates, if a market is flooded with ideas and product geard towards that train of thought, then equally there are as many interesting provoking products to go against the grain.

First Tekken and Ridge Racer. They both looked a hell of a lot better than Saturn's first VF and Daytona (being the graphic whore I was). "If I was going to get a 3D machine, why not get one that does it well", was my reasoning. I imported about 3 weeks after the japanese launch. I still had my AES at that point, so I wouldn't have been worried about Saturn's 2D fighter ports even if I'd had any idea they were coming. A lot of people here have an irrational hatred of Sony's Playstation, but it was home to some of the best games ever made, like Rage Racer, Biohazard 1, Vagrant Story, Metal Gear Solid, first couple Tomb Raiders, Castlevania, Silent Hill (!), etc. etc. etc.

Neo Geo may have my absolute favorite games of all time, but for sheer number of good games, maybe only SNES competes with Playstation, IMO. PS2 on the other hand, would be almost about #%$&ing worthless if it wasn't backwards compatable.

I can't agree with Baseley on his statement about the PSX being better than the Saturn for 2D, as IMO even without the 4MB cart the 2D games, when compared to PSX counter parts, were almost always superior, and if they weren't it was usually do to crappy programmers not knowing what the fuck they were doing.

As for the reason I bought a PSX, it would have to be Final Fantasy Tactics. I actually bought the game at Best Buy for $30 on sale an hour before I bought my PSX from EB. EB was selling it for $50 and I didn't want to make them lose money by price matching it (my brother works there and the people he worked with at the time were cool).

I've really enjoyed PS1 back in the days. Tohshinden 1, 2 (both Japan ver.); Tekken 2, Soul Edge, and Resident Evil series. :buttrock:

2D fighters were decent specially SFZero series. Although can't say much about neo ports though. :eek_2:

Hey soz if it sounded that way, I only said at times eclipsing the Saturn, we al know the Saturn was a 2D powerhouse, it's just that doesn't mean the PSX was lame at it.

I played both when they came out, and I'd even go as far as to say SF Alpha 1 was better (closer to arcade) on the PS. I think that might have been the first and last time that was the case, though, as far as Capcom fighters go.

I bought it for Castlevania SOTN and FF 7. It had some of the best rpg games. The Saturn had better 2D games though.

Bought a PSX after I played the original Rayman. The first game I purchased was SFA. Castlevania SOTN makes owning a ps worthwhile as well.

First game I bought for the PS1 I still have to this very day: Raiden Project. Then there was Final Fantasy Tactics and all of the Namco Museums and Midway's Greatest Hits. I live in the past

Well, I rented one first, as I did with the Saturn to be sure I would like it. I rented the console with Ridge Racer and Battle Arena Tohshinden. I played the hell out of both games and loved them, so when I got my system with Tekken I made sure to buy those two games. I would say Ridge Racer, Tekken and Air Combat were the main games I got the PSX for.

I guess the question in my case is - what is making you want a psx all over again, and the answer is some decent imports. Rising Zan in particular. And the decent amount of 3d fighters - more than any other system.

Originally, it was games like Tekken yajt made me want the system

I bought it just because it was something *new*, it was Sony hardware, and the tech demos were amazing, not because of the games.

After that I started buying games and liking them.

Final Fantasy VII

This game made me choose the PS over the N64 cos originally FFVII was to be released on the N64. I remember the video (originally meant to be on the N64) of the Bahamut that was shown at E3 was amazing... back in 96.

When I saw the TV ads for FF7, I ran out and bought a PS. My favorite PS moment, however, was getting Xenogears the day it was released. Easily my favorite RPG of all time.
