The only problem I would have with things in the foreground would be if it covers up the action to the point where it's in the way.

I can't think of any other game that has stuff in the foreground like that.

^^By early-mid fight, all of that has been knocked out of the way already, but I do get your point and in the fight, every hit counts, even early in the round.

Well, they are in the foreground, but not really like in this game. Anyone else?

Chun-Li's stage in SFIII has a table in the foreground

Ehrgeiz also had plenty of object in the background and foreground in the game too.
