Metal Slug X on MVS and Slug 3 AES cart probs

Guys, I need some help please with the two following slug issues:

1.) I have a consolised 4 slot that works like a peach. However, when I put Metal Slug X in there is a problem. The game comes up fine. I can choose my character but as soon as the game starts the buttons don't work. I can only move left to right but not actually shoot, jump or throw granades. I have tried in all the slots and the same happens. The game used to work fine in a consolised 2 slot and with phantom on AES system. What could be the problem??

2.) I have a Metal Slug 3 jap Homecart that is strange. I insert it in my home system (normal jap system, not modded) and everything starts up fine. But when the Metal Slug 3 screen comes up it is purple with a rainbow in the back. It stays purple until the character selection screen and then crashes back to neo geo start up logo. Why is this?? Dirty contacts on the cart?? If so how do I clean them??

I just use ordinary rubbing alcohol (90%), and swab the contacts with medium pressure (maybe 2 lbs. on the q-tip). The only cart that I have not been able to get working like that was one that didn't have an official SNK board (strikers conv. cart).

Cheers mate and yes have tried it in another one of the 4 slots and same problem..... don't know why.

And yes mate I recently saw one of your auctions and saw you from edinburgh too!!! I know John and we meet up occasionally for some twinkle star sprites sessions. Do you know him?? We should meet some time!! Always good...
