I don't know why, I just do. I would use it for sport, not self-defense. I use to shoot competively when I was younger (11-17, 21 now) shooting rifles. I started with a Winchester .22 cal and then went to the AR-15/M-16. I have shot shot-guns on a occasion and a handgun only once.

I honestly want to get a handgun. I would probably get a revolver. I guess I miss my days of target shooting. I am afraid to own a gun, though. I never know what will happy with my ding bat roommates.,

I need Merc to chime in on this, a fellow gun enthausit ;)

It's probably good to apologize about the Buckner thread before you buy a new gun and want to try it out. :help: :help: :tickled:

Yeah, fuck it. Go ahead - you only live once. But I'd discuss it with the roommate first though, since the place is half his too.

I know where you're coming from man. I'm still waiting a few more months before i can purchase my first handgun. I'm thinking about getting a .22 revolver to do some target shooting with. Anyone have any suggestions for a good .22?

Honestly i'd like to get an AK-47, and i think i will sometime next year. I really have no need for such a weapon but i'd like to own one simply because of the history associated with this weapon. Same with the AR-15.

I've done some research and it seems the Ruger revolvers come highly reccomended.

Cool, im checking there site out now. Most of the gun manufacturers that i'm familiar with i could only find .22 pistols. And there revolvers were way more powerful then what i wanted. No need to get a hand cannon for my first gun. This is looking more like what i wanted.

Seriously, Browning and Ruger make really excellent .22 LR handguns if that's what you guys are after. And I can't blame you, .22's are great fun to shoot.

Ruger makes absolutely fantastic revolvers. They are a bit big and heavy, but you'll love em to death. You can't go wrong with a redhawk.

Hah, I'm not nuts enough to be a member of the MI militia. I do have friends involved with them though. They can be a bit loopy at times ;)
Mostly I just hunt a lot. Between my dad and grandpa I've been around firearms as long as I can remember.

Hmm you guys think i should start out with a single action .22 revolver? I checked out some of Ruger's double action 22s on the site but they were a bit out of my price range (and a bit ugly honestly). I think i would be cool with owning a single action revolver because really deep down inside don't we all want to be cowboys?

Something like this maybe: http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=912&return=Y

I really don't want to spend over $400.

*Edit: maybe i should spend 20 more bucks and get one of their "new single six" models like this:

I know what ya mean. My family used to live in PA before we moved down here. My dad was into dear hunting and shit though I was too young when we lived there to actually hunt.

Now we live in AL and my dad just sticks to target shooting and I usually go with him. My fave is his old Mauser rifle. I could shoot that thing all day.

As far as handguns go however he only has three. A Ruger semi-auto .22 pistol for target shooting (nice, lightweight, fairly accurate). A Beretta 9mm, I like it but it's pretty inaccurate and feels a little clumsy IMO, he has it for if any rednecks at the target range get crazy. And my fave, the Ruger Blackhawk revolver. It shoots .357 Magnums and .38 rounds, fun gun indeed.

I've got a pretty good shot with rifles, though I haven't been in awhile and my shot's probably rusty. Who knows though.

That single six looks really nice. A single action revolver would make for a great starter gun. Too many people start off with semi autos and then just learn how to spray and not how to actually shoot. I would definately start out with a 22 simply because ammo is so cheap. You can buy a box of 22 shells and shoot all day long for like 10 bucks.
My advice would be to check around your area at gun shops and maybe gun shows to look at used revolvers. You'll most likely be able to spend less and still get a nice handgun. It's not a bad idea to try some used guns first so you can get a better feel for what you want before you take the plunge and spend the big bucks on a new one.

Target shooting is a blast. One of my favorite ways to spend a day. My father used to have a Mauser around the time I was 6. I never got to shoot it but I'll always remember the sound it made. There was just something special about it.

firebomber, you seemed quite well versed in firearms :)

If I am going to get a handgun, I am going to get a .22 cal, I don't need a .38, .44, or .45 for target shooting. The higher cals are meant to take people down and I'm not going to shoot anyone anytime soon.

If a 22 caliber you want, get a Ruger. They are very easy to silence. :D

Another reason why 22's are so nice for target shooting is because they have very little recoil. When you start shooting the higher calibers like 357mag, 44's etc. your hands get real tired after a while. Good for a while, but not so fun for extended shoots.

DAMN!!! You must make some dough because a AK-47 brand new isn't cheap! I looked around myself for a MP5 and figured out it would cost $10,000 for a new one.

Unless, of course, you're getting it from the black market which cuts down the price...

But back to the topic, what do you want to do with it? If it's for fun, get a Glock or the S&W are awesome. For other purposes, Beretta with a silencer... ;)

Actually i've found some dirt cheap AK-47s on the net. Found a site where you can get one AK for $335 or if you by two or more you can get each one for $309. Now of course i'm sure the price reflects the quality of the rifle, but hey its still an AK and thats all i care about. Its not like i need it to save my life or something.

I've been checking out this site:

http://www.gunbroker.com

Its sort of like ebay, except only for guns. Maybe you can find what you're looking for on there? Or at least use it to get a feel for the price.
