i started playing cvs2 a little in the cades again with kof2k3 a ghost town now....

i realized how bad I THINK the graphics are, i turned around and peeped sfa3 and kof 2k3 to compare and said to myself "how can ppl prefer the generic 3d bgs and very pixelated lower res sprites of this game over the straight 2d cap/snk ones??"

yeah ggxxr is beautiful but cvs2 looks horrid imo....

I always preferd the CVS1 bgs, some of the CVS2 bgs are laughable, the one on the desert rally is such a joke. About the only good bg in that game is the stadium and the rooftop/dojo thing.

I think the background on the CvS series are fine, and I think the sprites on the CvS are fine. When you combine the two, however, they are $hyte. I've always thought that the game looked like a chop job.

The gameplay is pretty good, but they really should've put a bit more thought into the consistency of the graphics. Or any thought, for that matter.

It has some $hyte bg's here and there, but overall I think it has a pretty good look. What don't you like about it?

I think people will like a game, get defensive of its faults, rationalize them, and finally convince themselves that everything is great. For example, I know that a year ago there were things I thought were less than perfect with KOF '02, but now I can't remember what they were. Okay, not the greatest music or backgrounds, but they're fine.

I think it's the same with this game. Looking back at old posts, you can see more than a couple people who originally hated CVS2 kind of change to "ehhh, it's okay...", and finally mutate into "I love it!"

CVS2 looks like 'Roger Rabbit' or Disney's 'Song of the South' to me. A cute gimmick the first time you see it, but if I want to watch a cartoon, I'd rather just watch a cartoon, and if I want to watch a movie, I'd rather just watch a movie. And if I want to hear bland music, I'll find an elevator or a supermarket.

I feel about the same way. CvS (and 2) are both pretty decent games from a technical standpoint, but they just don't set the kind of atmosphere that keeps me coming back. Not that I'm a graphics whore, but these games just don't have a coherent feel to them.

SFA2 and SFA3 series has a very good overall image/eye candy....

CVS2 would've been awesome too if they made the bgs compatible with the 2D sprites...

CvS2 is pretty ugly overall, but it does have its moments. When you've got two new sprites (Chun Li in particular looks great) it can look pretty nice, if pixelated. It's the Alpha sprites that make my eyes bleed, especially since I got a new tv with component video. Ick.

I LOVE the way the SNK characters look in CvS2. Kyo looks fucking nice. All the redrawn characters that are in CvS2 are top notch, imo. The shotos look the best I've ever seen them. Bison looks fuckin rad, and Rock owns me for free. The blown-up sprites bother me a little bit, but I don't even notice them when I'm in the middle of a heated match.

Most ppl I know rate CvS2 as more modern looking but not better... the moving 3D backs make the difference for them.

Some charas like Haohmaru look not too shabby but others like Ryo are way off IMO.

Anyway, I don't really care about its looks, for me, CvS2 is just a feature-packed fighting game toolbox that I like to break out and play with some friends every now and then.

On a sidenote, one of my buddies who normally doesn't like fighting games at all has somewhat perfected his EO-mode play. I only play AC mode of course (with an Ascii stick) and always giggled when he chose EO because I've tried it and found it totally lame, but now that he got it down he's able to do some mean combos which makes our matches more interesting (and less one-sided). Now he wants a KoF2k1 EO... :annoyed: :)

For me, the reason I like the KOF style is where they decided to put the detail in.

One thing I loved is the attention to detail when it came to clothing, something that never happened in the Capcom Alpha nor the CvsS model.

One thing KOF versions of the characters are adamant about, is having detail ripples (and highlights) in the clothing. You can actually tell, even with limited frames, what material that particular clothing is, when you play KOF. In the Capcom examples, they might as all be wearing the same material for everything. It just doesn't animate nor show detail about it. To me, that's enough to already show that more serious-anime look for me. Because it is always the darker, more serious anime, that puts attention to detail, that way, first.

I mean, who couldn't guess that Robert Garcia worse Silk shirts in KOF 96,97,and 98. Nobody ever has to guess who wears Leather, and where they wear that leather. When someone changes material (not just shirt design and color), you could tell. Capcom never does detail ripples and highlights, so that is lost. Though they started to get the ripple down in SF3, it's only to show some nice animation, but without the highlights, the material doesn't stand out and if they are wearing clothes, they all look to be the same material.

It's no surprise why people can come up with some pretty accurrate KOF cosplay outfits.
