I guess I'm a cheap turtler, though I tend to go for other characters now.

But as of '94 I have taken Heidern up as my character of choice. See while brother's and friend's refined combos and timings with more popular characters, I would infuriate with strategies deemed cheap at times, but so fun. It would make a good player have to deal with the unpredictability of Heidern's attacks.

Some of Heidern's moves in kof '94 take off ridiculous amounts of life (not always though).

Maybe its because I used to find it hard to you ken/ryu type characters and just developed into this kind of player.

I will go for more mainstreem characters now (I've been at these games for over a decade now, I had to learn at some point). I have also lost my capacity to play as Heidern, but am very much impressed when I get destroyed by a good Heidern user (particularly in kof 2k1). He's the coolest character in KOF. Very cold. Don't really like Leona, and don't like how they took him out of so many KOF's

Adon in street fighter zero/zero 2 - Wan Fu in Samurai Showdown - Heidern and Choi in Kof. Go figure..

Heidern rules big time.

I use him quite often in 98 and almost always in 2001.

Heidern's a monster in 2001. Probably the most overpowered ( yeaaaah ! ) chara on that game.

Removing his charge moves was a nice idea to make Heidern a fantastic character to play.

Heidern can be a real bitch in '94. Throw a fireball at his ass, and see if he doesn't jump on your head and start spinnin'.

Never got into him that much. He's alright I guess.

My team is usually like this...

Pre-99: Terry, Ryo, Iori
99-2k1: K', Terry, Ryo, Iori (Striker)
post-2k1: K', Terry, Ryo (or occasionally K9999 instead of Ryo).

They removed his charged moves in 01?? Fuck, he must have become a god.

I'm a big '95 Heidern fan. I find it cool as hell. It's a fucking deadly character who's too often forgotten. Ikari team always gets my vote in 95 anyway. :D

I could advise you to play with Guile in SVC to understand easily how a charge character has to be used. Guile is a god in this game and yo could learn how to use it.

Sounds like a KOF98 Heidern pattern play to me...

Crouch... Sonic boom... Somersault... ! repeat !

Isn't it ? :)

Funny but Guile was not one of the main characters I used to use in Street Fighter. E.Honda was way more interesting and vicious. Heidern's Moon Slasher is the deadliest move in KOF (in my humble opinion), I don't know why it can take so much life at certain points in KOF '94 but if the adversary is jumping in with a fly kick and you pull it off, you can sometimes take off almost half the energy bar. Maybe even more.

Guile is slower and I can see how they based Heidern on him, but playing Heidern is a very different experience.

Lean Mean Killing Machine.

Heidern is one of my favorite characters to use.
I have destroyed so many people with this characters, it's not funny.
From his charging days ('94-'95,'98) to his new 'shoto style joystick commands',
he 's always been great. Probably one of the strongest KOF characters ever.
He doesn't have any of the 'flashy' 30+ Hits, it's more like 2-4 hits and you're
dead. Only problem I've found with him is that he is too 'tall' making it harder
to fight against short characters like Choi.

I love Heidern. Probably one of my very favorite character designs of all time. If you're going to do a military design, everyone should take a cue from him.

In 98 he's a monster and the only reason I can beat the game. When Rugal goes up for his globe projectile, unleash that neck snapper for some punishment on that kraut bastard.

I haven't played him in 2k1, just because I don't play 2k1, but I have much love for the old bastard.

Screw the CPU with that damn head spin move. It does mad damage. I like Heidern, but I like Leona more. Since Heidern found her, I guess I can give him some props for making one of my favorite characters.

I thought Heidern kinda sucked in '94 and '95 because he had charge moves, but, he got better in '98 and he kicked major ass in 2001. KOF 2001 is the best game for Heidern, too bad they didn't put him in any more games, tho. :(

sorry but I'm not with you on that. KOF 2K1 Heiderm is like a hyper version of himself - but that does not make him better than his previous entries. I just find that there is a direct relationship between charge and wait stratergy and him being a soldier. I think its the perfect technique and fits into his character very well.

I recall, when I was to try KOF2001 for the first time, I said to a friend, "It would be great to have Heidern without *charge* techniques, all of his moves can be "translated" to standard joystick motions easily..." and went on explaining how each move would be performed. So, minutes after, when I tried him in 2001, I noticed he was EXACTLY how I wished him to be ;)

the problem, if you can call it that, with Heiderm 2K1 is that he is overpowered and too boss-like. But its all about perception and I respect yours. Its just that I find the charge technique was a defining feature of his character - an actual detail of his personality

I agree completely, charging makes everything much more... "important" or "decisive", that is why I like the 98 version a lot as well.

I like Heirdern and refuse to play his overpowered 2k1 carnation

I prefer Leona because she's harder to use

I believe Leona is actually more abusive and cheap, easier to use as well.
