I'll be visiting NY later on this month or early June. Just want to know if anyone around here is from Queens? This is where I will be staying for the most part, somewhere around Steinway.

I've asked a few people about the subways and other stuff, are they really that dangerous... as far as getting mugged? The first person I asked about Queens tole me that he got stabbed.

I want to rent a car to visit different places in NY but not sure if that is a good idea because of the traffic and I dont know my way around the city.

Any suggestions for a first time visiter to the Big Apple?

If anyone is from around Queens, mabey we can meet up sometime.

Believe me when I say this: the subway system is safe. Sure some people get mugged, but there are millions of riders so someone will eventually get knocked. But if this was say, 20 years ago, I'd say RUN.....FAR AWAY :smirk:

As far as the car rental....if you're planning on driving around Manhattan, it may be better to use the subway system due to traffic. I know plenty of people with cars who leave em home when going into Manhattan.

Places to check out? I dont know whatcha like, but since you're on a Neo board, check out the China Town Fair for some good gaming action. If youre into improv/stage comedy, the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre (funny stuff).

the thing to remember is on your first day either beat someone up or become someone's bitch. so when you first walk in there just find some chick and totally punch her in the ear or something. chances are she will go down. you should be fine after that.

That's one the of the reasons why I love this forum. You can get some infos that none of the tourist guides will give you.

From Queens, the places I will visit are Times Square, The Statue of Liberty, Empire State Bldg, Central Park, ....... pretty much teh tourist stuff.

Truthfully I'd rather not rent a car, just another thing to deal with....traffic, parking, not knowing my way around.

When I was in Chicago the subways were not bad, but there were definatly some shady looking thugs everywhere. Cant be sporting all the bling bling.... :mr_t: .... and riding the subays late at night I suppose.

Do you know if visiting "The Statue of Liberty" is still..or available..
I think they stopped the touring of The Statue of Liberty after 911..

I could be wrong and don't want to give Robert false information..

Ms. Liberty is supposed to re-open in the summer time, but no definite date has been determined.
