One man's top three:

1. Ivan Drago, Rocky IV. Dude, I was scared shitless of this giant Russian when I saw this movie as a kid. He looked like the biggest motherfucker ever. I guess if I could be built like anyone on Earth, fuck Arnold...I'd wanna be built like Dolph in this movie. Holy shit.

2. Clarence Boddicker, Robocop. Some of the most vicious lines in movie history roll off this man's lips...
'Bitches leave!'
'Cops don't like me, so I don't like cops. Neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh-neh...'
'Can you fly, Bobby?'

3. Thulsa Doom, Conan The Barbarian. James Earl Jones plays it truly ominous, lusty, just plain sick and twisted as the leader of the snake cult.

Any other underrated villains you guys can think of?

Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty. [Blade Runner, 1982]

I don't think the average movie-goer gives Rutger Hauer enough credit for the glassy-eyed insanity he brought to the role.

Julius Carry as The Shogun of Harlem. [The Last Dragon, 1985]

Quintessential cheeseball villain; he's basically every over-the-top, cookie cutter 1980s movie villain roled into one person.

Sam Neill as Dr. William Weir. [Event Horizon, 1997]

The movie itself is an underrated sci-fi/horror masterpiece, but Sam Neill's especially psychotic transformation into the Devil incarnate from the far reaches of space makes the films latter half especially insane and enjoyable.

There's no way you can under rate Kurtwood Smith. Now, everytime I watch that movie I think, "Dammit, when is going to say, "Dumbass!"?"

Shit, I can't believe I forgot about Belloq from Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
Nasty Frenchman, sinister look, and a really wicked rivalry with Indy.
Honestly, the other Indy flicks had nearly as decent baddies as Raiders.
Mola Ram? Ho-hum. The 2nd-rate Nazis in Crusade? Puh-leeze.

I don't think Jack Nicolson's performance as the Joker was ever underrated. Neither was it overrated -it was just perfect.

If you want to talk underrated in the Batman franchise, I would go out on a limb and submit Danny DeVito as the Penguin.

I also enjoyed Gary Oldman's scenery-chewing performance in The Professional/Leon

Finally, the ultimate in underrated villian:
Michael Ironside: Any movie.

Michael Ironside as Richter in Total Recall, what an absolute badass.

Richter: I want that motherfucker dead!
Helm: I don't blame you, man. I wouldn't want a guy like Quaid porkin' my old lady.
Richter: You saying she likes it?
Helm: No, I'm sure she hated every minute of him.

:D

Lance Henrikson in Hard Target. He just goes insane the last half an hour, and it's compulsive viewing.

John Travolta (no seriously) in Broken Arrow. Just had some of the coolest lines and expressions.

Gary Oldman in True Romance though not really the main bad guy, definetely had the looks and the sadisticness to pay it off.

Marty: He's askin' about Alabama.
Drexl Spivey: Where the fuck is that bitch?
Clarence Worley: She's with me.
Drexl Spivey: Who the fuck are you?
Clarence Worley: I'm her husband.
Drexl Spivey: [Laughs] Well, that makes us practically related.

Gary Busey in lethal Weapon. hell that mothercooker can play any bad guy well with those crazy eyes.

I agree with Dr. Weir (Sam Neill) in Event Horizon. i love that movie.

Also:
Jet-Li in Lethal weapon 4 (mediocre movie that only really shined when he was on screen. He got totally robbed in the ending)

I feel like im leaving someone out, but i cant recall who at the moment..

OMG Bobak just got hella respect points on that one.

DeVito and Nicholson in their respective villian roles in the Batman films were pretty much the best I've ever seen.

Teacher Takeshi- Battle Royale: Takeshi Kitano is the ultimate badass in this movie...fucking unbelievable.

Lex Luthor- Superman: Gene Hackman is great hamming it up as Lex.

Ironside as Richter was truely badass as above (though clearly pwned by Arnolds "see you at the party Richter" line), however, Ironside was honestly scary/phsychotic in Scanners as Revok, I mean the guy could blow up your head just by thinking.

Revok would top my list, Boddicker a close second.

I really liked Vincent Cassel's performance in Brotherhood of the Wolf (he played Jean-Francois de Morangleis) - scarred up psycho with incest tendancies... what's not to like? :buttrock:

Also give props to Tcheky Karyo as Richard in Kiss of the Dragon.

The bad guy in the first Crow movie and the anti-heroe in Blade 2 (Luke Goss? or is it his brother Matt? one of the Bros boys anyway).
Clarence in Robocop is seriously amazing, as is Gary Oldman's character in Leon.
Green Goblin was brilliant in Spiderman. Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier, Tom Berenger in Platoon - both are amazing. I don't know if any of these are under-rated but they hit the spot and that's very rare these days.

I guess its all about having a good contrast.

Clarence Boddicker is a bad mother. I bought the Criteron Edition of RoboCop and just can't beleive how great this movie is. Now I keep expecting Clarence to say Robo Dumbass though :glee:
