Red Dead Revolver has perked my interest, me being a sucker for the spaghetti western genre. I thought finally bring the Western theme back to gaming is very cool, but the game has be decent before I make the purchase. The trailers have me hooked, but now I need to hear from the gameplaying populace to find out what it really is really like. From the trailers it appears to have a solid soundtrack and incorparates a bullet-time like feature. It also seems alot like Hitman

Any impressions?

If I manage to spend more than 3 seconds glancing in the direction of Rockstar's booth at E3, I might give this game a try.

It was originally a Capcom property, afterall.

Well, I've read reviews at Gamespot and IGN, and they game seems favorable to Western fans. I think I'll rent before I buy, though.

ive played it... the story is sorta cool as is the presentation. the controls are ok... the sorta linear/confined nature of the game though smacks of japanese design which i am not such a big fan of... ive only played about half an hour though so.....

wow, 7.5 for the Xbox version on IGN and 7.0 for the PS2

Gamespot: 7.3

kind of disappointing, considering the amount of exposure this title got prior to release (especially from IGN)

I played it at the store today.
The xbox setup there is pretty crappy but the game seemed pretty cool.
started out with what happens as a kid and throws you into the rest of the
game right after that.
I thought it was great.
it really had that spagetti western feel to it.
all it needed was red telling the guys to apologize to his horse.
though maybe fun stuff like that is later in the game.
I'll get it when I scare up some cash.
the local EBs takes music cds now.
scroungin' up some trade ins...

I just picked up the game this weekend, and it's pretty freaking cool. I've been pleasantly surprised by it. I was kind of in the same situation as the one mentioned above--I was curious, I'm a fan of westerns, and I had been hearing a few positve aspects, so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did.

Bottom line, the gameplay is very good and very fun. It's got a pretty fast pace also, which makes it seem almost like an arcade game at times. I don't know if it's just the western theme to this game or the actual gameplay, but this game has me hooked.

IMO, this game has gotten a bit of a screw job in it's reviews. I've seen scores ranging from as low as 4 in EGM to as high as 7.9 (I beleive) at videogames.com. The 7.9 probably isn't too far off, but I still think it deserves a higher score.

And yes, the music is very good. Sorry, I don't know if one of the tunes you're talking about comes from another western, but in the game's manual, it's got a complete soundtrack listing which includes each song's writer. BTW, the manual's in full color and pretty stylish also. Overall, this game has very good, and entertaining, production values.

If you're at all interested in this game, definitely check it out, if not pick it up entirely--you won't be disappointed.

The ratings for this game were pretty mixed - I'd say rent first.

I'm going to snagg me up a copy in about an hour from now, finally just gotta' break away from MGS II: Sons of Liberty for a bit and do something else for a bit. The last "Western" game I liked but sadly never got ported to any console was Lucas Art's Outlaws, that too had the whole spaghetti western feel/sound to it though it was FPS.

@ Big Shady
---Yo dawg, when I go to the game store in a bit I'll ask to see the trailer for it so I can hear the song. If it's from a "Spaghetti Western" chances are I'll know it being that I've seen about 345 of them since age 10, some even in Italian with no English subs. If it's something that was made in the States trying to be "Spaghetti" though it'll probably just fly right past me. I never cared for our own homegrown product after I first saw Fistfull of Dollars and Death Rides A Horse personally.

I liked everything in the game except for one small problem:

while in targeting mode, the left analog stick is used for straffing and the right stick for turning/aiming. YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT.

controlling really becomes confusing when you are surrounded and need to act quickly.

aside from that, everything is cool. I liked the atmosphere, feels like if you're living in their world. very cool graphics and designs. the gameplay is mission-based. you can buy stuff, upgrade weapons or (sometimes depending on story) going around in town and talk to people (you can enter few buildings).

in each mission, you will be in a field where you have to kill the enemies, who come in groups, each group at a time.

the stages, however, are varied and different from each others (a farm, a train, towns, canyons, .... etc.). you may also find new elements in certain stages, such as riding horses picking/throwing objects.

very cool game overall. I didn't expect it to have such depth.

gets 8/10 from me.

would give it 8.5 if it wasn't for the controlling issue. they should have added an option for changing it.
