We all know the Neo-Geo is a 16-bit system, right?

Well, I was recently looking at some old advertisements for the Neo-Geo when it was still new in '90-'91, and it was referred to as a 24-bit system (these were SNK's own ads, not third party).

Did those 8-bits magically disappear somewhere? :p

The Neo Geo has two processors, a 16-bit one, and an 8-bit one. So technically it's a 16-bit, but SNK called it a 24-bit machine (16 + 8).

Ahhhh...sounds like the typical "get the highest number count possible" tactics.

Thanks for the info. :)

This is the exact same thing Nintendo did with the N64... it was actually two 32bit processors... as anyone can tell you, dual processors do not double the speed... The N64 is actually a 32bit machine, and the Neo is 16... and the Turbo Graphics 16... hehe, well it was only 8!

Don't forget about the Jaguar. The Jaguar had twin 32-bit processors and advertises 64-bit performance.

what about the "128bit" Dreamcast, the CPU being a 200mhz RISC 32bit hitachi SH-4 with "128bit" FPU registers.

hmm

Aw well, as I'm sure you all know, it's not the machine it's running on that's important, it's the quality of the games. And from what I've seen of the "better" game systems, I'll stick with the old SNES, Gen, and Neo. Not that there aren't any good games on the new hardware, it's just that they lack "soul" (I'm sure that this topic has been beaten to death, but it really bothers me).

This is simular to the Atari Jaguar. 64 bit system wich was really sudo64. 4 16 bit processors. And the Turbo Grafx 16. Two 8 bit processors.

Not that Bits matter anymore. They never really did. It was a way a company could talk trash.
Look at the differences. Nintendo vs Turbo Grafx. Both 8 bit but the turbo looked hella better. NeoGeo vs. SNES I dont think I need to even touch that one. Gen or SNES vs. Jaguar (lol) NM jaguar sucked ass but I still love the system.

if I am guessing here, which I am, GC is powerpc based, so that means its probably 64bit with 128 bit addressing..
