Mainly due to the cost of ownership. The thing is I'm kinda attahed to the artwork and this is being driven purley from a cost perspective.

Have any of you guys (and Gals) done this and regretted it?
Have any of you done it nad never looked back?

I need feedback peeps, I torn on this one

Cheers

Alec

PS I already have a consolised MVS (will never fork ot $2500+ for MS1 and it's my favourite game!) :help: :help:

I did it in Febuary, never looked back.

You'll never be happier with yourself for making the switch.

Do it man, fucking do it! :buttrock:

Everyone talks about ditching AES for MVS. Its a simple thing when everyone can buy an !Arcade! converter for MVS -> AES.

Here's the deal, just use your Neo Geo Home System with a the !Arcade! Converter and buy MVS Games. At the same time you can still buy AES Games all you want. You get the best of both worlds without any great cost. The most I've see !Arcade! Converters going for is $275 which is well worth the investment. :drool_2:

I have 60 MVS Carts and 5 AES Carts. I can play either and enjoy them all on my home system (modded w/S-Video). In truth I have a 2-Slot MVS Arcade Cab which I also play my MVS Carts on but I find I use the Home System more since its in my room (doesn't disturb others late nite)!

Plus if I get bored I play around with conversions too, MVS->AES games. There's the big money saver if you really want AES Games, enjoy them on your home system, and dont want to use an !Arcade! Converter. Only hang up anyone has here is that there not "official" home releases (which I could careless about) :glee:

I started out with AES and made the switch about a year ago. Best thing I ever did. Like you there was no way I'd ever be likely to spend $1000+ on games, with MVS the most you're likely to have to pay for a title is £100 tops.

For the price of Sengoku 3 on AES I picked up MOTW, Metal Slug 3 & Magical Drop 3. :D

I've noticed that after SSVS was announced as the last NEO GEO game, many have been ditching the expensive AES format. That's fine, just more other preowned AES homecarts for the rest of us that remain faithful to NGH.

My personal feeling.... I've invested in 13 years in NGH, and i'm not about to regress back to MVS, let alone teh ROMZ.

AES forever! :buttrock:

I've been sort of toying with the idea myself, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to do it. Not that I've got a tremendous big tym3r collection or anything, but I do enjoy the artwork and the extra polish that the AES carts offer. Anyway, I'll probably just use MVS to get the really pricey titles that I otherwise wouldn't have a chance to play (NTM, Slug 1, etc.).

I don't think I could ditch my AES. Have you considered getting a Phantom converter?

NeVer! I could not or will not ditch AES...as Iam so attached to it and worked so hard to get where Iam today. I started buying AES back in 2002. Now Iam not bailing out on AES as I supported it this long. Since I came this far to getting what I wanted. I also had a Phantom-1 but I traded it and half of my MVS collection for more AES. On the other hand Iam letting go my MVS stuff as I only had it for 1 year and lost interest. The only reason why I bought MVS was to play the games that werent released on AES or were too expensive on AES but now I dont care. I just buy what I feel.

Back in Septmeber I did the whole sell off AES and go to MVS. But the thing is I really like to have good quality art and boxes. Then you'll realize that buying a full kit costs as much as the AES cart but that the AES carts look nicer. MVS is only cheaper if you don't mind getting beat up loose carts that have been across the country in every arcade. I recommend you stay with AES. I went back to AES in December and will never look back again.

I am an AEShole for life :buttrock:

I love my AES collection and I could not part with it. I like all the art work, the cases, and the manuals. I will get a cab, though, once I settle in. AES is very convenient for my life style, being a college student.

I would never sell my aes, I have built up a nice collection and I plan on expending it slowly but steadily. However, i don't plan on spending big bucks on it anymore, so the less AES collectors, the better it is for the affordability of the carts.

So by all means, please go MVS :)

*MMJ'S forsight*

Lot's of old AES collectors go to MVS, New AES collectors buy old collectors games, MVS collectors one day decide to return to their roots, New AES collectors sell them back their old games at double the price

I'm doing the opposite.

I've started by going the MVS route simply for cost. I'm now getting an AES as well.

MVS was supposed to be cheaper but that only really applies to the fighters. If yuo're wanting some of the other neo games out there, AES may be the easiest and cheapest way.

Get both and then simply go for which ever is cheapest at the time.

I would keep the AES and buy a MVS.

Here in Brasil the AES isn't expensive, and selling it would just gave me enough money to buy 2 or 3 low profile MVS carts.

Yes, the MVS carts are cheap, but here the AES consoles are at prices much lower than the MVS PCBs. And it almost impossible to find 2 or 4 slots here.

Well, I know it doesn't help in your choice, but I would like to share it with the others. :make_fac:

If you can find a cab, arrange pick-up and accommodate it in your apartment, DEFINETLY go for it.

It's cheaper AND more authentic.

And you'll have the choice of cheap loose carts (gamer's choice), cart and shockbox (aesthetic's choice), or the collectability of kits (collector's choice).

I have sold off my AES and went MVS so many times over,it's not even funny..

While MVS might be cheaper,AES more than make up for it in terms of collectibillity.

If you're a straight-up gamer,MVS is tEh way to go.

I had an AES over a decade ago...realized it just wasnt worth it to spend so much on games for it. If you really must keep the AES, keep it for the games that you can't get on MVS. That way you can have your cake and eat it too. Sell your AES games that are availble on the MVS and then buy other MVS's w/ that money and you'll more than double your collection. *(Keep in mind there may be some real rare AES games that are also real rare on MVS and may be better to hold onto).

Ummm... How many of these you know? None? That's the point. IMO owning an AES isn't logical. Except maybe because of space save issues.

And let's not forget, that collecting full kits is hard work. And in some occasions (like Samurai Shodowns) the complete MVS version is harder to find than their complete AES counterparts. So there's plenty of nuts to crack even for the collectors. But you still have the option to just play loose carts. They're cheap as chips.

Why not have both an AES and MVS setup. Get the expensive games on MVS.
