Most Nerfed KOF character through the years

Yeap....some started off so strong and eventually got nerfed down to a little of nothing. So, which do you think was butchered most?

The KOFs I play the most are 98 and 99, with some 02 and 03 in the arcades. Ralf seems a lot better in 98 than 02 and 03, but he definately IS a lot better than in 99. A "button charge" for Ralf Kick?! WTF...

Then again a lot of grapple characters peaked at 98 so people like Clark and Goro probably got "nerfed" too (never play as them myself, save for random play).

My brother plays Billy in 98 and he thinks he's not as good. No uppercut in '03 hurts...

Gah! Can't beleive I misspelled Kusanagi!

I voted Chizuru myself. Heard she was a monster power-wise in '96...but I play her in '98 and she's really nothing special.

I'd have to go with Takuma. They totally pussified him and then left him off the roster totally in '03 when an easy cut and paste job could have been had with Mr. Karate from SVC. But then again, nobody ever gets cut and pasted anymore. :oh_no:

Well, I would say Ralf Jones, he has been through so many changes, in 98 he was simply amazing, with basic moves + playing a little defensively you would easily win fights, great damage, priority and range. I am still amused by the fact that a combo as simple as jD, sC, HCF+D would eat 40% of your opponent's HP.

Then he was toned down a little... but in 2001 and 2002, he was amazing (again)... his "standard" Galactica Phantom and his Ralf Tackle were incredible moves. Ralf Tackle would counter up to... 5? hits from your opponent and deal great damage.

After that... it was a catastrophe for Mr. Jones... Ralf in 2003 is something I simply do not understand, I tried playing with him a couple of times, but he is a completely different character now... I dislike his latest version very much. Less power to the Ikari... simply terrible.

Can´t say that I have played every KOF but I know that like fantat says, Takuma has been very downgraded, just like Ryu right? Their moves have changed from blasting kuykogen(I don´t bother to check the spelling on that)

It's okay. The Art Of Fighting anime DVD cover does the same thing. Just don't know if they goof up the name through the whole movie or not. (Can't bring myself to rent or buy it. ...Especially after getting the crime against nature known as the Samurai Shodown movie.)

Hehe..yeah, the Samurai Shodown Anime sucked big time, with such
awsome characters and story from the games its almost hard to fail...

Im not a big anime fan, but animes with the SNK characters would
be fun to see, are there any good SNK Animes?!

Hrm. Takuma has started strong and has been somewhat consistent since then, but I really found that his nerfing in '02 blew balls.

I'd have to say Robert, because that charging crap was RIDICULOUS. I didn't mind his change in KOF 96 - I didn't too much at first, but now I like it.

I hate how they change Ralf since 98', and how they keep fucking with Benimaru's Iaido Kick (QCF+Kick).

It's supposed to be a kick to the face that's faster than the human eye can percieve, so it should have at least 1/2 the range of his Toward + B kick. But now, they've toned it down so bad, it barely reaches 1/2 a character length in front of him.

actually ralf has gotten alot better over the years.
shoulder charge works great. and he hasn't been toned down like his team mate

I haven't played enough of the newer KOFs to know..... '99 he was okay, I like him better than Daimon. I've had a chance to play '00 and liked that he could now rush...great for taking revenge against Athena. (His new hcb + K) Since then, I'd heard things...but since there are so few Maxima fans, I had no way of telling that he'd been nerfed. Heh.

!) and then in KOF '02 they bitch-slapped him all the way to overly toned-down land :crying:

I was kinda pissed when they gave Kensou a projectile (qcb+p) instead of his forward leaping punch. He was the anti-cheap character, but kicked ass anyway. Other than that though I cant think of any. I haven't played enough of '02 to give an opinion on Takuma although so far he's best in '00 (other than Mr. Karate in SVC)

I voted 'other' cos although there are a lot of characters who have been fucked with over the years ( Robert as charge!?! a bad way to makes snk's answer to guile), to me, there's only one person who's been well and truly shafted...

In 94 and 95 he was the fucking man (the kyokugen team fucking ruled back then, before putting Yuri in the team)! in 96 to 98, although completely fucking different, he was still pretty playable and you could still stir up some shit with him, but fuck me side ways, from 99 onwards, it just pure shit.

Still, maybe im just missing something.

It wasn't so much a nerfing as it was a restoration. Kensou could be cheap through '98 with that projectile. Then, without so-much-needed story, they say Kensou looses his psychic powers and they get rid of the move. *poof*
