A LOT. I liked popular music back when it used to have some sort of creativity and perhaps a message in there somewhere.

All that mainstream hip-hop has to talk about is ice, rims, platinum, and bitches. Fucking morons .... almost as stupid as the mindless drones that buy that vacuous garbage. Not to mention the fact that most of that shit has a half-life of about 2 weeks - that's its one redeeming quality.

I dont see how someone can HATE hip hop. I never really understood how someone can just take one genre of music and hate all of it. Any real music lover would never say something like "i hate country" or "i hate classical music". Of course everyone has preferences and things they like, but hating a whole genre is a little naive. There is so much variety and different artists in each genre and so much depth, ecspecially in the hip hop genre. Its completely IGNORANT and FOOLISH to write off a whole genre cause you heard some stuff on the radio that you didn't like. Most of good quality hip hop isnt even on the radio or TV, so how could you be sick of it.

But I understand the view point of, "I hate the popular shit the TV keeps shoveling at me, make it stop." but not "i hate hip hop"

Rap is what you mostly hear on the radio, and on tv. Hiphop you can't just turn on the radio and hear you got to search for real hiphop. Me I'm a hiphop head, I don't even listen to the radio at all because of the mainstream bullshit that be on the radio. Maybe the name of this thread should be called I hate rap because to hate hiphop is just crazy.

I don't listen to much hip hop. I find most of it way too over produced. There is some good stuff tho, such as Roots Manuva, or The Roots, which is a bit more raw. As ever, you have to wade through the ocean of shit to find anything good (and as you know, that ocean is huge and rapidly growing).

There are a few sparks of creativity out there, acts like Outkast, Dialated Peoples etc., that really have something special, but the rest is mindless mass media shit.
