Nearly 14 years to the day of its original release, Square-Enix still has dreams of Final Fantasy III swirling in its head. After experiencing countless setbacks developing a port of the game for the defunct Wonderswan Color, fate, it seems, has intervened. Fate, in this case, just happens to be Nintendo; Mario and his crew have asked the Square-Enix development house responsible for the port if they'd be interested in porting their project to the Game Boy Advance.

While nothing is set in stone at the moment, sources from Square Enix have assured a Japanese newpaper that the game is still in the works. When asked where the port (which was never abandoned) would end up the source strongly hinted at the GBA. There is no word yet on any North American release, but if the game is finally ported over the GBA chances are it will end up here.

Gotta give mad props to the Phoenix Down that landed on the Square/Nintendo partnership.

If they were to put this on Playstation, what would they call it? We already had Anthology, Chronicles and Origins.

In my opinion, it's always nice to see good ol' franchises that have previously been neglected to the portable world, work its way onto the portable scene. With the GBA SP on the scene, finally getting them in gear in terms of battery life; RPGs are definitely a nice thing to have on the go. As long as they have proper save facilities, at least. The portable world DEMANDS the ability to save often, so that you can take the decent amount of breaks from gaming, you need, when on the go. Typically, you are doing something, and playing a little game inbetween pauses to your activity, when you play this way.

As usual, I'm also thanking someone for Sega finally wisening to the idea that we NEED portable Shining Force distribution. About time, really. Now if they can somehow (even if GBA somehow does it) get Shining Force III 1-3 over here. :)

Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy USA, or Final Fantasy: Forgotten Chapter seem like reasonable titles.....

Still, good to see it getting a port. If only we get to see an english translation.

Except we are talking about the JAPANESE Final Fantasy III (originally on the Famicom) and not the US Final Fantasy III (SNES) aka Final Fantasy VI for the Super Fami.

About the only way to play it in English now is a fan-translated rom.

They'd get my cash for such a port, I can attest.

No, Doi!
That's why I said they could call it VI. If their gonna' goof up two titles, they may as well reverse the numbers. But since VI was re-released already, it wouldn't work anyway. I've been well aware of the absence of Final Fantasy 3 in the US.....and there's been much hoping it'd come out for GBA, or PSX....and not the Nintendo DS or Nokia N-Gage....
