World Exclusive - Sega to return to hardware!


On the 12 th of May, Day 1 of E3, Sega will showcase to the world it's re-entry into the Console hardware arena.

We first reported on a rumour regarding Sega returning to hardware about a month ago, but now the rumour is a reality, Financially revitalised, finally debt free, Sega now firmly belives it has what it takes to rule the roost.

But why you may ask are they doing this? wouldn't it be suicide? well no, not really. You see when Sega was making the dreamcast hardware it was selling an average of between 25-30 million units of software per year. Since going third party that number has always remained in the 6-10 million range. Besides the reason for going third party in the first place was to stop the losses and have a chance to get rid of it's debt (well over a billion dollars). Third party was never a permanent business plan. Did Isao Okawa give away he's life savings to save a software developer? No! re-entering hardware in the next round was always the plan. Did Sammy splash out half a billion dollars just for arcade floor space? No!

What we're trying to get at is that the signs have always been there, but now rejoice!

IT IS TIME FOR THE BIGGEST COMEBACK STORY OF ALL TIME.

*Update* A Sega rep has informed us that the next machine will be of platinum color.

if this is true, i will weep like a little school girl. and i will import this the day it's released in japan just like i did with saturn and dc.

but i honestly don't know how it will succeed, sony isn't going anywhere from the top spot unless something drastic happens, and microsoft looks to have footed themself in number 2 for at least the next generation, and sega has never outsold nintendo since the genesis days, so if nintendo's still 3rd, sega is gonna be left out in the cold, at least in the USA.... Japan may be a different story, but then again the DC sold better in america than japan, and that might be ok if sega had microsofts money...

but if this has sammy behind it, they seem determined to take over the arcade industry, this could be a nice little system with lots of arcade ports and 2D titles.

How is Sony not going anywhere if there's one thing I've learned its that the current generation tell you nothing of the sucess of the next generation.

I would expect big shake ups in the 'order' of the consoles next generation.

Any fool can tell you that it will never happen, but if it did, great!
I'd love to see Sega finish themselves off with yet another failed hardware launch attempt! Put an end to this worthless corporation once and for all!

OMG! This could seriously make me go back to videogames.

sega should release the 256X 680000 Turbo (codename M.A.R.S), and it'll be backward compatible with master system, genesis, 32X, sega cd, sega pico, saturn and dreamcast. biggest system of all time and cost 999 retail. fucking do it!

I would not want to get my hopes up too much as the let down would be horrible. If there where to be another Sega console, it would be the greatest news in years. Maybe the market cannot handle 4 consoles in the same lane, but I am almost sure Sega would be going for niche market. And I don't really care how succesful the system would end up being, this is as good as SNK releasing another home system.

I always was (and be) at the Nintendo's side, but I'm more than happy to see a TRUE gaming company coming back to the console wars.

but if It will
then I think they'll concentrate on the jap market with some niche titles or arcade ports ect..
but It's just me I can be completely mistaken...infact according to news they'll present it at the E3 and not at TGS.....

God I hope they don't die this time. I donno how well it'll work though, MS and Sony will probably do everything they can to squash Nintendo and Sega next round.

I know I'll be picking one up, cause this is probably where SNKP's Atomiswave ports are gonna go, but yar good luck Sega.

Like most of you, I see this as a hoax. Why would such an unknown site break news like this? If Sega does choose to make a comeback in the hardware race, they have my support 100 percent. If it does come back, let's hope they won't make the same mismanagement errors as before.

Hahaha....maybe they should release that prototype on the Saturn for Sonic X-treme while they're at it....

Man I'd fucking KILL for a copy of Sonic X-treme right now.....A sonic game that stars ONLY SONIC....not since Sonic CD has such an innovation been implemented with their games....

Hey, hey, hey!! What is going onnn here?

If this is true (and I hope...I hope...) it will be the death knell for X-Box in Japan. Then 3rd party development (such as it is) will start to dry up for X-Box... On the other hand, I've liked the idea of seeing multi-platform Sega games, so I don't know what to think.

edit: and I'll save the crying for these F-ers if they're lying.

The XBOX has a hell of a lot more 3rd party support than the GC.
