well, I thought some people here would be interested in seeing how our lives here in this part of the world look like.

for those who still don't know, I live in the UAE (a small country next to Saudi Arabia)

here is the first batch of pics. they only show some places in the neighbrhood.

few small shops here and there. these are located near houses (barber shops, groceries, cafeterias, ...etc.)

a petrol station. though this one looks old, the petrol stations around in the country usually have a much better design.

my home

a shopping center. these are very importan round here. people go there during there weekends. you can find retaurants, shops, hyper markets, cinemas, .... etc.) parks are becoming more and more useless these days, as the climate is gradually becoming hotter each year. that's why having a car is also important here.

keep in my mind that I live here with my parents, 8 brothers, 2 of them have wives living with us. not to mention my 2 nephews and 1 niece. I got to be thankfull that I have my own room. and just to let you know, the house looks ugly inside. everything is untidy it has a lot of garbage that needs to be thrown out (I've been trying to convience my mother to throw them). my room still looks OK though.

one of my married brothers is building a small house in the backyard (can't be seen in the pic) he will be moving there along with his wife and two children by September.

that small building there is for guests. it's still not complete.

by the way, this is just a normal house. you can find many houses with the same size here. if you're interested, I'll try to take some pics of some palaces (real palaces).

Correct me if I am wrong but I hear that 300,000 USD can get you a mansion in your country, while here in California, USA it would get you a small 2 story house.

my mom says that it costed dad around 100,000 USD to build this house in 1988. things now are completly different. I would say it costs around 300,000 USD (or a lttle less) to build a house like ours.

lands are given free for nationals who are just got married and ready to build a house, but they have to apply for one first and wait for some time (sometimes it takes a year). you may choose to live in a certain area, but you can't get the exact place that you want to build the house in. if you want to do so, you'll need to buy the land if it was already given to some one. otherwise it's not possible.
