TEHRAN (Reuters) - Is Iran about to be invaded by little green men or are the Americans racing through the night sky in spaceships to spy on the Islamic Republic?

Flying saucer fever has gripped Iran after dozens of sightings in the last few days. Fanciful cartoons of alien spacecraft have adorned the front pages.

State television on Wednesday showed a sparkling white disc it said was filmed over Tehran on Tuesday night.

More colorful Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) have been spotted beaming out green, red, blue and purple rays over the northern cities of Tabriz and Ardebil and in the Caspian Sea province of Golestan, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Newspapers and agencies reported people rushing out into the streets in eight towns on Tuesday night to watch a bright extraterrestrial light dipping in and out of the clouds.

An airforce officer in the Revolutionary Guards was quoted in the reformist Vagha-ye Etefaghiyeh daily saying Iran's Supreme National Security Council should investigate whether these visitors from afar had hostile intent.

But Sa'dollah Nasiri-Qeydari, head of the Astronomical Society of Iran, told Reuters the stories were unfounded.

"In my opinion, flying saucers do not exist," he said, insisting his telescopes would have picked up invaders from outer space.

"The people who have seen these things are not experts - farmers, villagers and pilots," he added.

He said what people reported was consistent with the planet Venus, whose intense light in its current position would be given different hues by being filtered through the atmosphere.

No pix = pointless story :P
I'm surprised the Iranian state news would actually report that sort of thing.

lol good point. Maybe the UFOes are so advanced they cant be registered by our stinkin' earthling cams :loco:

In this day and age of seamless (if done well) CGI, unless a ship lands in front of my apartment and the occupants knock on my door to borrow a cup of sugar, I wont believe any footage/photos anyways.

Sounds more like the plot to Metal Slug X to me. In hindsight, most of the operations thus far could be contrasted to the early levels of MSX.

Maybe it's just me.

thank you.

You would not think so if you saw the vids. They were the generic spinning type ones. Thing was that it did no seem to spin so fast and the vid was crystal clear as day.

It was very odd looking.

BTW I do not belive in UFO's

The more I learn about biology, the more skeptical I am about aliens X_X
Well, I'm not gonna rule out other sorts of "life", but carbon-based life like on Earth, the chances are just too small.

I don't believe in em either -- well, not the lil green man variety. I think that the majority of the sightings are of some next level military airships, which would probablly explain why they're spotted often in the desert or out in the backwoods.
Heh, I guess about 15 years ago, our stealth fighters/bombers wouldve classified as UFOes, especially if seen at night.

There's no way the government has THAT high level sort of stuff. If that was true, that technology would be present even before WWII, which is just absurd. The jet engine wasn't even developed back then!

The government isn't *that* organized. If someone had the power to create something THAT high-level, the world would be in his hands now.

Aliens do exist man. I was abducted by female aliens before. It was crazy. Scary shit. They talk in some weird-ass language that you never heard of. They have big eyes and like 4 fingers. Weird chair they put you in to do some examination.

I think it would be entirely possible to possess...in an experimental form. I agree though, if it were finalized, anyone who'd possessed it would be world crushers.

Once you get the ball rolling on technology, once you learn the ins and outs of it, it increases incredibly. I read somewhere, I wish I could remember the source, that states that the overall state of technology has doubled every twenty years or so. So you know the eggheads building weapons are trying out all sorts of weird shit ;)

I'm still waiting for my goddamned jetpack, though !

I remember seeing some sort of show with that guy from Dash_No_Chris's avatar that explains military technology.

There are jetpacks available.....just not too terribly reliable ones. The packs used in most James Bond films have a flight time of about 30 seconds...while newer models have pushed flight times up incredibly to a whole 35 seconds. Or...something to that effect...it's been over a year since I've seen the show, and only saw it in the first place becaude my dorm roomie was a military nut. Still, interesting enough show...and I think I ended up watching a good two and a half seasons of M*A*S*H that year. Heh...
