I have read in some US forums spreading a message encouraging people not to buy Spanish products, as a result of the troop´s withdrawal in Irak. What shocks me the most is that they´re including... Mexican tacos and burritos!!!Do some people still think that Spain is in Mexico?

It's because people are stupid.

They think Mexicans, because they speak Spanish (which as I understand it isn't necesarily the same as Spain's Spanish), they are Spanish. People in the US can be pretty fucking stupid. I have plenty of people get China and Japan mixed up and when you point it out they usually say 'well they all use that Kanji stuff, so it's the same to me.' Retards.

I don't think the backlash against spain here is anywhere near as bad as the contempt many conservatives had (and still have) for the french after refusing to join the coalition.

Americans do often confuse hispanic cultures when they don't see a difference. Spanish/Mexican/Cuban/Puerto Rican/Dominican, etc, all have similarities and differences, just like any other major culture.

I have not heard about any real boycotts however, not like the whole "freedom fries" deal.

I doubt its widespread, and if it is it sounds secluded to the "retard" section of America. Which is regretably quite large.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything like that at all, and I read alot of conservative blogs. I don't think people are upset with Spain like that....I know I'm not.

Which means lots of lost income for Mexico. :D

I fucking hate it when people think I'm a Jap.
When I tell them I'm Chinese, they just say "same thing".
That's why I kick them or something.

Dumbasses. I don't get British and Irish mixed up, and there's a MUCH smaller difference between those than Chinese and Japanese.

On the original topic... that's just stupid. Is this only a forum/internet thing, or are there some real organizations sponsoring it?

Meh, I got nothing against the Spanish. Sounds like the ideas of some fringe groups to me.

You've never tried talking to a Scotsman I suppose? Anyone that thinks the British or Irish accent is 'heavy,' wait until you speak to a Scot... there is a DEFINITE difference, almost to the point of it being a different language. :D

I will admit, however, that I do have a difficult time differentiating between the subtle differences in facial features between say Chinese, Korean and Japanese, but I never make an assumption someone is descended (or is, if they are visiting the US) from one or the other, or anything else.

After speaking with an American of English/Japanese descent, I've learned people take BIG offense when you say shit like 'What are you?' Mike's reply is always 'American, what are you?' People don't like his ignorant reply either. :D He also replies with about the same when people say 'Where are you from?'

I'm wondering exactly what Spanish products the boycotters are going to suddenly stop buying. I don't know if I've ever actually bought a product from Spain. Olives maybe, I guess... if they were actually from Spain. I guess if I started buying olives again, and then suddenly stopped, that would be hitting them right in the pocketbook. Of course that would be if I was mad they're pulling out of Iraq -- which I'm not.

Luckily, we've herded most of them to D.C.

...Wait.

Like dumb brits thinking the 'Falkland' islands are somewhere near the north of Scotland. By the way, saying the Irish are Brits is up for debate (I personally don't think so) - that's why there's so much trouble.

from what I know, Spain makes alot of money on tourism, most of it being european, so boicot on Spanish goods would make little sense.

Rule #1:
When commenting on how stupid a certain segment of the population is, make sure you spell the word "boycott" correctly.

Yeah, guess it's less subtle to non-Asians. There are some that you can't tell, but most of them I can tell with 100% accuracy.

Chinese - a lot of variation within Chinese, because of the different ethnic groups... very hard to get Chinese and Korean mixed up. A lot of Chinese and Japanese look similar (much more than you'd think). The biggest difference is in the mouth:nose size ratio and the way they're shaped. We're usually the nerdy ass bitches.
Japanese - if they have bad teeth, most likely Japanese. Not being racist there, just telling the truth. Japanese look like Koreans and Chinese... makes sense anyways, Japanese descend from Koreans and Chinese. Around WWII (or was it before?) they kidnapped Chinese women to make their own people taller and more beautiful... no kidding. They don't teach you that one in the history books. You can tell a Japanese by facial features... really, really smooth, some to the point of being nearly featureless (look for a pic of Ayumi Hamasaki)
Korean - Very very distinct most of the time. You can tell Koreans by their smaller-than-other-Asians-nose and their distinctive lips. Some Koreans look like Chinese, since Koreans are descended from Mongols, like many Chinese.

Not a definitive guide. Some people have told me I looked Japanese and Korean (Chinese people telling me that). Meh.

So....no more easy-peel Oranges?
I'm not entirely sure what products the US imports from Spain. I can still vaguely remember those little gold stickers that read "Made in Taiwa...err, the Democratic Republic of China. ;) "

So I guess all those signs at autodealers, health care offices, and government offices will now read, "Se Habla Mexican!"

Boycotting spanish products would be the dumbest thing I ever heard. I mean, they withdrew from iraq because a new government was elected who said they would withdraw if elected, so it is obviously what the people wanted. Of course, the US would probably be boycotting british products if our government had gone with public opinion at the time and not joined the coalition. unfortunately, like yours, our governement are retards.

So... when is the next major UK election, anyway?

On a side note, I wonder if Reebok had anything to do with keeping America happy :p ;) :D

Is there any food in USA you call by "Spanish"? Just like "French fries". So you can change its name to "Freedom" or "Justice" or whatever. :D
I don't really think there are that many Spanish products exported to USA anyway.

What is clear is that up until now Spain was the most important USA ass-lic... (sorry, I meant "ally" ) in Western Europe after UK, however this has changed. The previous president "Ansar" is extremely pissed at this, and has phoned Bush to "apologize", I guess he said "forgive Spanish people because they don't know what they are doing". Bush has said that the new president "Sapaterou" has deceived him.

About language, of course the Spanish spoken in Mexico is quite different, but usually you can talk with a Mexican OK as long as none of the speakers uses slang terms from his origin. The same happens in the Spanish spoken in South-America, I'd say Argentinian is the most different one.

So I guess that if I try to sell something in the boards I will be boycotted... :eek_2:

You guys are all talking about a fictional boycott. Still haven't seen any proof of this.

I can't remember the last time I saw a product that said made in spain other than wine. Even if I had I wouldn't be gay enough to boycott the shit. Hell I may do just the opposite. Shit, when france and america were still going at it, I went to luxembourg and bought some French CDs and i got french wine chillin in the fridge lol.

Wine is the big product that gets boycotted the most, French wines (and to a lesser extent restaurants) got the cold shoulder for a while after France refused to join the "coalition". Personally, I have no problem at all with what Spain is doing, seeing as how the whole Iraq operation is a complete mess, was a terrible mistake, and is a sad situation for all the soldiers who have died for a very poor reason. Saddam may have been a brutal dictator (true) and may have tortured and killed many of his people (true) but going in without true international cooperation was just a total, sad blunder. Hopefully it will spell the end for the Bush presidency and we can move on from there having just lost face and respect in most of the world. :(
