Shooters on the Neo

I want to add some shooters to my collection - MVS or AES, and I was thinking about buying Sonic Wings 2. Is this game worth it?

I want a vertical shooter too damnit

I would say yes...I haven't played it but I fucking really dig Sonic Wings 3...it's one of my favorite homecarts...I only assume that Sonic Wings 2 is at least as good, and probably better from what I've read in the past. Go for it.

I can finally speak about Neo again

SW 2 & 3
and ASO II
are worth their prices both on AES/MVS

since I assume you get an MVS board
I'd try my best to find a copy of Zed Blade, never released on AES
IMO is even better than Pulstar and can challenge BlazingStar as best Neo-Geo shmup ever

Sonic Wings 2 is good, but it really annoys me how you are forced to power down a few seconds after you reach max shot power. Strikers 1945 plus is another good one, but it pales in comparison to S1945 II. I love vertical shooters, but in my opinion they are best left to vertical monitors.

Striker 1945 has got the best graphic for a Neo game
I don't like its mechanics but It's amazing anyway
I still prefer SW 2 though
and again ASO II would be a considerable 2nd choice

Well shooters eh...yes Areo Fighters 2 is great as I would get it if I were you. Now a shooter you must buy...MUST BUY...is Last Resort. Ok now thats a game you need to buy its just amazing lets just say. Also Ill include others you should pick up:

Alpha Mission 2
Ghost Pilots
Pulstar
Sonic Wings 3
View Point

So these are the games I would recommend. There is others I havent played so I cant list them.

Pulstar
Strikers+
Last Resort
Viewpoint
Blazing Star

First for the record, i'm a big schmup fan..

So, for that, I want to say that amongst the games i've played,
Shooters that suck on NEO:
Ghost Pilots (sucks the most)
Andro Dunos (very unrewarding and boring, too hard to care)
Alpha Mission 2 (so lame but the music is good)
Sonic Wings 2 (sucks the least. The levels are too short, the dialog is real bad, but the bosses are good.)


And Shooters that are good are:
Blazing Star (blasterpiece, one of the best you'll find ever)
Pulstar (hard as fuck but so rewarding)
Viewpoint (schweet as hell, so calibrated and precise. very unique music)
Last Resort (poor man's Pulstar, still quite good, great music)

I personally like Sonic Wings 2 quite a bit. The music on the final stage is enough reason alone to pick it up. The bosses are really nice, and there is a decent ship selection to choose from. I have it on NGCD, and the load times aren't bad at all. If you have a NGCD I would recommend picking it up there. It only goes for like $20 bucks or so. Can't beat that price

Q-

Last Resort is a must have. Its short but Sweet as hell. Pretty game with some cool music. The Fire that comes out the 2nd boss is so pretty, you want to slap some on some pie. yumm

Someone mentioned Zedblade as being the ish.......did i miss something here? It sucks ass and swallows.

Dont feel bad if you NEVER PLAY THESE SHOOTERS!:
Andro Dunos (i was ashamed it was made for neogeo)
Zedblade (happy it was never put on AES)
Ghost Pilots (kinda mixed bag here.....its just really dated. At the time, it looked the shit with the pretty backdrops, etc)

Games to put on your must-have list:
Last Resort (cuz i said so)
Viewpoint (the most unique shooter available on the neogeo - hard as hell too)
Pulstar (tried new graphics effects with this game and pulled it off nicely - hella hard)
Blazing Star (poormans Pulstar, If you cant hang with pulstar, you can beat this one and feel somewhat like a champ - nice game, just not so tough)
Aero Fighters 3 (Best Vertical Shooter available)

Why the hell not shooters to get:
Alpha Mission II - (has the most depth of all the shooters as far as your weopons/ specials and you wont beat it while you eat your burger - not hard, just not short)
Prehistoric Isle 2 - Incorporates Pulstar/Blazing Star effects but you get to kick dino-butt. why not.
Aero Fighters 2 - (another vertical shooter not as good as 3 but why the hell not)

EDIT* Strikers 1945+ (cant believe i forgot about this one - throw this one in here too.....its Strikers man!)

I have a question for anyone who's played Prehistoric Isle 2...

Is it REALLY as easy as people say? Since its also made by Yumokobo, how does its gameplay compare with Blazing Star?

I think Prehistoric Isle and blazing star are about the same difficulty, blazing star end of level bosses are more tricky.I prefer prehistoric isle better sound and graphics, I love dinosaurs so this is my fav shoot em up game on the neo just behind strikers....

problem is It's not overhyped as Pulstar and BStar(that anyway are among my fave shmpus ever) and never been released on AES
so most people just don't know it
but It's great and challenging

as good is Ghost pilot
