Hi everyone.

I am a Spanish guy and I am going to NYC in July foir a month, so I´ll have plenty of time for searching.I´ve been there twice, and I just remember the typical EBGames and Gamestop, a store in Chinatown where they did have some imports but not so much; then, I think it was near Wall Street, another store where did they have some vintage games, as Neo Geo(AOF and SS), NES, Virtual Boy, etc, and the owner was asian, I can´t remember the name. And then another store in Amsterdam Av, near Harlem.

Which others can u recommend me to go to?Thank you guys

Good luck dude. There arent so many vintage game stores in Manhattan. Most of the vintage stuff are in Flea Markets. Finding NEO Stuff in NY? That is deffinately not the place to go. There are some members in the NY/NJ area that you might want to keep in good contact with. They can sell you some good stuff. Atleast you can see the games before you buy them.

there's Multimedia 1.0 on St. Marks Place (good for vintage stuff)

and in Chinatown the one that comes to mind is J & L Game on Elizabeth Street (import some NEO stuff too)

don't expect to find super low deals but hey it's something...

;)

Thanks, I think that´s the store where I have been to, and yes, it´s really expensive!!

I am most interested in flea markets kind of, or some other used items stores, u know, where the seller may not have any idea if he has a real gem in his hands and u could take it bargaining a little bit for a low price :D :D

Well I am not too familiar with where the NYC Flea Markets are anymore, but I know they happen on Sunday. They were normally put advertisements in the news papers. I havent been in NYC for a while so I cant tell you right off the bat where they are. My cousin used to go to school in Upstate NY (Its really far). He used to tell me about a flea market on sunday that had EVERY NES game known to man. It was interesting. I never went though. Like I said. Your best guess is to post up a message saying "Looking for NYC/NJ members". They can give you answers or look in the news papers for what you need. I dont trust game stop to buy games.

If you can afford to buy at JNLgame then I much would fly to Japan myself to pick them up. Buying 3 titles from them would be enough to buy a plane ticket to Tokyo. I wonder if they know the actual prices for the games or if they just go on 1995 prices. I walked into there once and almost fell on my ass. They wanted $180 for SS2 USED. I bought a new one for $30. Thats funny isnt it?

There is one specific store that is like that...THE PAWN SHOP. This kind of store buys items from people like a loan. First you give them your item and they let you borror cash. If you cant pay in x number of days they keep your item and you keep the money. Or someone robbed someone else and sold that stuff to the store. Either way thoes stores have no idea what most of the stuff that comes in is. They can sell NES games for $1 and the NES game is Hot Slots.

There is another HUGE place that is called The Salvation Army. This place is a second hand/used goods shop, but its like the lottery. They have everything from bra's and panties all the way up to Ty Cobbs Baseball bat. This store also has no idea what they are selling. They price everything as they think is correct. NES games can be bought there for $1-3 sometimes. But I did say sometimes. Either they have it or they dont. You cant ask the sales person to find something for you. The sales person has no idea what is in the store. All they do is look at the price tag and collect the cash.

If you can take a 6 hour ride up to Upstate NY then sure I can hook you up. Its close to one of the Colleges. I will get back to you on this one. I will try to get into contact with him first.

For sure when you get to NYC check out the Saturday and Sunday newspapers. In the classifieds (All the way at the back) every Sat and Sun people advertise for "THE BIGGEST FLEA MARKET SALE..." That is a 100% guarantee that you will atleast get to 1 or 2 of them. If you really want to be sure what general kind of vendors they have you can always call the number of the advertisement and ask them who sells there. They might say only clothes, jewelery, everything, electronic goods (if they say this deffinately go there. There are Colico, atari and many other things they consider junk), and lots of other things.

This should help. If you have anything else you might want to ask just PM me.

I may be of help. It's been a while since I lived in NYC, but here's some places that may still be around. As a rule of thumb, NYC stores that sell import or rare games tend to want to.... violate your wallet. But, anyway here's the skinny:

China Town: take the 6 or N R subways to Canal St. There, walk east to Elizabeth St. Heading south on Elizabeth (the street that is), there were (are?) a few good game shops that sell a variety of merchandise including Neo Geo AES, but at high prices-think selling your kidney. If you go to CT, check out the resident arcade called the China Town Fair. It's on a back street heading south.

Near Korea Town (around 32 St west side near Penn station) There was a decent game shop, but I have the feeling it may be gone.

These days, China Town is probably your best bet for decent games. For American releases at lower prices, some Toys R Us stores may have what you need. Good luck.

Sorry to subvert your thread Vlad - don't mean to be rude just made sense to post here then start a new thread.

I too am heading out to NYC and Boston in May or June with work. I was going to ask about vintage stuff but thats been covered off already.

I am also interesting in GBA stuff cos its SO expensive in the UK; does anyone know good places to get a wide range of stuff in NYC or Boston.

Also, is there anywhere that sells MVS kits (long shot I know!)?

Thanks guys!

Hi,

The only place I even remotely know of MVS kits in NYC is only at the arcade. I absolutely cant think of another place that would even have 1 in NYC besides personal collections. Someone on the threads might be able to help you on the threads, but its highly unlikely that you will get a MVS kit in a regular game store. This is really a collectors market. Regular gamers (Ps/MS/GC) will have no idea what MVS even means. Dont get me wrong, you might be able to find some, but dont count on it.
