I've been wanting to throw a big Neo gathering for some time now. Anyone interested?

Where in Ohio is Xenia?

Where in Ohio is Xenia?

It's about 20 minutes east of Dayton and about an hour southwest of Columbus. I'm not saying it HAS to be held at my place...I'm just trying to see how many SERIOUS people would be interested in hanging out playing Neo Geo, etc.

I'm intrigued, what date are you thinking about?

I know how to get to Hicksville, Ohio. I'm lost after that.

You know where Hicksville is? No way. I'm in Cincinnati now, but I'm originally from Leipsic, about 45 min. East of Hicksville.

Yes...my Grandparents use to live there so I had to make the trek there alot....plus..I always like talking about Hicksville...people don't know if I'm just joking, or if its actually a town.

I believe that I-70 connects Indianapolis to Dayton. If you're anywhere near I-70, you'd be able to make it to Dayton in roughly an hour-and-a-half or two (totally guessing, I've never actually driven it) and Xenia is about another twenty minutes past Dayton.

GunstarHero

nope...I'm about 5 hours from Dayton. I live near South Bend.

Jon

I don't know. I'd have to know what everyone's schedule is. Definitely on a weekend, though. Right now..how does the 1st Saturday in June sound?

I can probably only fit like about 10 people in my room (where my system is). I would advise anyone that would like to come to bring their own controller, as I only have one working CD pad. I have like 30 games for the Neo..and they are all MVS format. I play them on a supergun which is hooked up to a 27in TV and a 5.1 surround sound system. Have many many many other systems and games (about 20 or so systems..500 games) some rare, most cool.

If anyone wants to come over and hang out or whatever, just drop me a PM. I'm usually free most days.

I'd probably be game for that. Whatever really. I'd be coming in from pittsburgh, so I suppose I'm looking at about 3 hours or so right?

Jon
04-25-2004, 04:22 PM
I just checked mapquest. According to them, it would take just under 4 hours to get here from Pittsburgh. If you're really serious about driving that far, let me know your address via PM so I can give you better more specific directions to my house.

OK I'll list my titles:

Blue's Journey
Nam 1975
Magician Lord
Top Hunter
Karnov's Revenge
Riding Hero
Metal Slug X
Puzzle Bobble
Ninja Commando
Rage of the Dragons
Super Dodge Ball
Windjammers
Pulstar
Blazing Star
Fatal Fury
Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad
Nitghtmare in the Dark
SSIV

I can just bring whatever you don't have. I think Xenia is only 45 minutes from me... I can bring someone else from Cincy that wants to carpool. Look, a free ride. All you have to do is reply!

Jon

I actually don't have quite a few of these. The ones I have on your list are: Rage of the Dragons, Super Dodgeball, Blazing Star, Fatal Fury, and I believe that's it. A few of these I definitely want to check out..I would only bring like 10 of them, or so. You'd be surprised how quickly time passes when you have a gettogether. Probably won't get through all the games, is what I'm saying.

You live in Cincy? Where exactly? I may drive down to see you.

i live in ohio, cleveland hts to be exact. nintendospy, pretty close to you. the fedarales took my drivers license for a quite some time, i dunno, something about me blowing into a little tube and seeing a number like .198. so xenia would be out of the question for me. too bad, i have absolutely no friends interested in neo or video games really. come to think of it i dont have any friends period. i would have 50 titles to bring to the table including all of the slugs, all fatal furys, svc, blazing star, neo turf masters and lots more. i also have almost every version of every streetfighter if anyone cares. but im always up for some neo gaming if anyone is in the area.

whats up everyone!

i'd be more than happy to have the get together at my place in columbus ohio. after the get together we could go to some bars or clubs if anyone is interested. i live right by ohio state so it's pretty much the best area in ohio to have a good time.

i can have as many people here as can come. jon could bring his 2 slot and someone would have to bring some arcade sticks unless you want to use crappy cd pads.

we really need a way to search for users in ohio among the forums.

everyones invited who is interested.

Greedo, Jeremy, been waiting for you to reply! It probably would be alot better if we held it in Columbus. It is a bit more centrally located than my place. Plus, no bitchy parents to complain about noise, etc. If anyone does want to come and hang out in Xenia before we do this get together thing, I've no problem with it. Everybody just keep posting...keep the interest alive, damn it! We're going to have an Ohio get together if it kills us!

I'm always interested as long as there is enough notice. If you try to put something together before the end of may, I'll be game. Just keep everyone posted. I have some good AES games (KOF series, SS series, FF series, SvC, etc) so I could supply a good bit.

Glad to finally have a post from one of the people who got me seriously involved in Neo Geo. It sounds like a good possibility that a gathering before the end of May could be possible. I need to finalized some stuff with my friend, Greedostick.

It sounds like Greedo's idea of having the gathering at his place in Columbus is a much better possibilitly. My house is very difficult to locate, for one (it's right on 35 business route...in the middle of nowhere). Also, Columbus is more centrally located.

Also, yagami-kun, if you could, ask Kristoff to come. He told me he was going to be working in the Alaskan oil fields (????) this summer. It would be nice to see both of you guys there.

Anyway, everybody keep posting. Keep the interest alive. We need to make this thing happen. I'll get back to you guys on details as they become available. If anyone has an suggestions, comments..those, of course, are welcome, as well.

I just wanted to state that the first Sat. in June is no good for me. I'd be more than willing to do it on a Saturday evening but I, simply can't make it on the first Sat. in June. End of May would work better. I could do it on a Thursday also.

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I'll bring any systems or games that I am able to. I am into mostly classic cart based consoles.

Columbus works for me too. Only 30 more minutes farther than Xenia for me.

Jon
04-29-2004, 09:32 AM
It sounds like that will be what happens. Greedo needs to get his job situation straightened out before I can definitely set a time or place. But, right now, look for something to be happening in Columbus around the end of May.

As far as people bringing stuff, I've got no problem with that. I still would like to see Greedo's place beforehand. Questions like, how big an area we are working with, exactly how many people are coming, what they're bringing are very important ones. I think it would be a good idea to have at least two TV set ups. On the issue of what to bring, try to keep it to a minimum. You would be surprised how fast time flies at these things. We could also spend hours on just one game and not get to another one.

I should have some definite answers in about a week. Should be going over Greedo's house to check out the situation there. I'm going to suggest one other thing, though: carpooling. The people who live around Cincinnati, I think it would be great if like 3-4 of you all came in the same car or whatever..as I don't know how much parking we will be working with. Anyway, hopefully, this won't be a problem. Updates to follow.

Thanks for the interest everyone!

jon just brought up a pretty good point here. parking, parking may be a small problem. there is plenty in the morning but at night it gets full. i am sure we could at least find enough spaces for 10 or so cars. maybe more. i think it will be fine.

as for room. there is plenty of it. but be aware that i have just moved here. so the sitting/chair situation is not the best. some folding chairs or something would be a great help. right now there are 4 chairs in my living room. no couch. but that may work out for the better and leave more room open.

also i have 2 tv's here. one 27 inch flat screen and a 27 inch non flat screen. both have s-video and av jacks.

also anyone who wants to drink that is fine. just bring your beer or liquor and will be right at home here.

That sounds pretty good. I would still like to check over the place to see if there are any other problems. I've been to some of these tournaments/gettogethers and, I know what can go wrong.

Also, I'm not sure bringing beer/liquor would be a good idea. Reason being I'm not sure how old all of you are. Anyone who smokes would need to do it outside...I have asthma. And, I'm sure this goes without saying, this event will be DRUG FREE.

I would also like to discuss something else: I've thought about posting something about the get together on Shoryuken.com. We would get tons of publicity if I did that. Let me know what everyone thinks about that.

Jon

I'm in agreement with Jon on most of his ideas about drugs and beer ect. Although, if someone wants to have a few cold ones I wouldn't be too opposed. I just don't want this to turn ugly considering the expensive equipment being used and it being held in someone else's place of living it would only be respectful not to be too wild. Also, I don't know how many people we want coming to this thing. If we only have 2 Tv's I don't know how many people that would support so everyone is involved and not waiting a long time to play. I think the biggest thing to decide would be the lineup of games we would be playing. Just my thoughts.

greedostick
05-01-2004, 12:50 PM
i dont mind if anyone brings a few drinks, but as far as smoking goes, i do have roomates and they both smoke. we have made are downstairs completely smoke free, so we don't have to deal with the smell and the dirtyness.

but please be aware, i do have roomates and it is there house as much as it is mine, so if they want to go outside, in the basement, or in there room. they can do whatever they want and i can't stop them.

but i can guarntee a smoke free enviroment in the downstairs.

Jon
05-01-2004, 03:49 PM
I guess Greedo kinda has a point. It is their place, too. I personally don't have a problem with it as long as the smoking isn't excessive and/or they're not blowing smoke in my face. I don't see them being that rude, though.

As far as Fantat's suggestion: Let's see how big an area we're working with before we decide to bring more TV's. Also, the number of TV's should reflect the number of people coming. It sounds like we MIGHT have about 5 people so far, and that's including Greedo and myself. If there is a chance of like 10-15 people showing up, I would certainly be able to bring my TV.

Also, I only have my MVS supergun system to play on. If anyone wants to bring a Neo AES system, that would be great. The more games, the better. Damn, just thinking about this reminds me of that guy's house I went over last summer who had 50 AES carts. Cannot remember his screenname for the life of me, though. In any case, if you have a AES/MVS system, games, controllers, etc. you will probably want to bring them with you. (especially controllers!!)

I think I should also ask this question again: once we get all the details finalised, do you guys think it would be a good idea for me to post this event/shindig thing on Shoryuken.com? Let me know as I believe this would drum up a lot of interested people to come. Maybe even enough for a tournament... :buttrock:

somebody really should bring some arcade sticks. i personally hate the cd pad. also i do have a one slot. possibly by the time of the get together i may have some sort of gun, and if things go well a biosed 2 slot..

also anybody with some cool turbo game would be nice. i'm all about some new turbo games, or any good games. althought between jon and me we probebly have what everyone has.

also megadrive games are a big plus.

Greedo's right about the Turbo games. It would be a challenge to find anyone in Ohio that has a BETTER Turbo Duo collection that us. Between us, we do have most of the rare games. I don't have a problem with bringing them, but, I will probably only bring the game..not the case or whatever. I'm a little bit worried about them getting damaged.

Speaking of which, anyone who would like to bring their Turbo games or whatever along is, of course, encouraged. However, I would recommend you store them in a CD holder. You can get these at any music store for $10 or less. Things have been known to get damaged unintentionally at these things.

Will be at Greedo's house today. Should have a big update on the situation there.

Jon

Jon
05-03-2004, 11:35 AM
OK, here's the skinny on Greedo's place. It looks like we should be able to easily accomadate around 20 or so people there. His living room is pretty small, but, he has an adjacent room they use as a weight room. The weights can easily be moved aside to allow for more people, TV's, etc. Speaking of TV's, we might need one more, but, I think that would probably do it.

The only real problem is going to be parking. I had a little trouble finding a space when I got there, and not having power steering on my car really didn't help matters any. His street is kind of narrow and everyone just parallel parks on one side of it. I would say to get there kind of early, around noon. There should be enough room along the street for another 10 cars. You might have to walk about a block or so, but, it shouldn't be a big deal.

As far as an actual date goes, Greedo needs to get his job situation resolved. But, I would say it should be on May 29th. Don't call off work until I'm 100% positive everything's cool. Hopefully, nothing will fall through. I should have an actual FINAL, DEFINITE date and time in about 1 1/2-2 weeks.

I am completely down with the idea of a get together. It's something that we've been trying to put together for awhile now.

Unfortunately I personally couldn't make it. Life has been teetering on the edge of crashing for awhile now and I can barely even find time to make to the post office before they close, much less dedicate a day to heading up to Columbus for some gaming. I'd be great to meet some of your people and get some gaming in, but it just doesn't look like it's in the cards for me right now. I'll try though.

It will be held in the Columbus area, as I stated before. But, probably not at Greedostick's house.

Lets try this again.

I know Jon has tried to make something happen several times to no avail. But come on people I see people from Ohio all the time on these boards. Lets try one more time all you have to do is show up, how hard can that be?

I would like to try and do this before the summer is over. I am usually free on most weekends a friday, saturday or sunday would all be fine for me. I live in Dublin about 20 min. from Columbus there is room for parking and people at my place. Drinking is fine and you can smoke outside.

I have most of the desirable Neo games, so if people bring Neo stuff ask first because I probabley have it already. I have a modded japanese AES system + 3 controllers and ~30 games, plus most other systems.(DC,SAT,PS2,PC engine ect..)

So if you live in Ohio please respond so we try and get something rolling. As soon as people start responding we can try and establish a date.

PM me if you want more info or if you live in the area and want to chill sometime.

yes, we really need to do this. kurt has a excellent set up to play some games and he has alot of room. if jon also comes we will basically have 1 copy of every good neo geo fighting game.

kurt, i think you really just need to set a confirmed date. one that is at least 37 days away, since some people have to give a 1 month notice to get a day off.

also i think posting at shoryuken.com may be a little more effective.

i am down for any saturday or friday night.

I'm definetly up for seeing something like this happen. My schedule has been extremely tight, but I'm always optimistic that I'll be able to work something out.

Yes please bring the Hyper64 if you come.

Ok, looking at the calander the 21 or 28 of August are looking pretty good. My schedule on the weekends is pretty flexible so I can try to accomidate other peoples plans to a certain extent.

I know when we tried to do this a couple moths ago there were several people interested but never made solid plans. So if you are seriously interested please give some feedback on what date would work for you. As soon as we have a confirmed date please make plans accordingly.

If we could get a couple people from Shoryukan.com to that would be great.

Last time we tried to make a get-together happen it was just Jon,Jeremy and myself. Lets see if we cant do a little better this time.
