Just got Fatal Fury 3 on the Neo CD a while back, and wanted to know if anyone else had noticed this: It does this really odd sort of...well, blackout thing. Basically, after the announcer says "Round 1, Fight" the screen blacks out for about 1/3 of a second. It also does this right after you win.

Anyone else getting this, or noticing this? I've got a front loader CD unit, thought that could be the cause of it...but am not sure.

Yes. This is common among Neo CD fighting games. This sort of thing does not happen with the cart version. The pause occurs when the system needs to load information off the CD. This also happens with games like KOF and SS...especially the newer KOF games with very high meg counts.

The screen should freeze....but not go black.

Hmm... I figured that it was just a small pause used while the system was sending the CD player the command to play the audio track? I figured that a very small pause wouldn't be enough time for it to load much of value...

Yes...as far as I know it is only changing the audio track.

Hmmmm, yeah, that's probably it. I just don't get why the screen has to black out. It's not really that bad, just kinda weird. At any rate, thanks for the responses and all. :)

although I remember back in the day reading an old FAQ that mentioned using the blackout to get the timing down for inputting the commands for a code that enabled the SDM moves...I'm kinda fuzzy on the details now, but I think if the code was inputted correctly, the color for the characters' names would change to green(?)...

if I remember, I'll let you know...
