I bought the kof 2000 home cart yesterday cause I had never really played it before. (except on ps2, but I didn't like it....) but... after playing it for 3 hours last night I am HOOKED. I can't stop playing. I just use the Joe striker and play as kyo, scooping characters off the ground into hcf+d,d into supers and what not. :multi_co:

The character portaits, character select and win quotes are beautifully drawn. The colors are vibrant. There was a lot of love squeezed into this game.

Before yesterday kof 2k was my least favorite kof, but now it's one of my favorites.

(any cool secrets or glitches to try? Ive been playing with the infinites... :) )

Also a recent 2k convert here. I never really liked 2k, but I have given it another chance recently, and now I play the crap out of it!

I like Joe as a striker (he's obviously the best one), but I use Shermie instead. Man is she fun. She also picks your opponent up, but she holds them in suspended animation for at least a second. You have sooooooooo much time to capitalize. I actually based my entire team around her strike. With Shermie I can do at least 80% damage with 1 combo, with every character on my team, without useing infinites!!

Here are my 80+% combos for each person on my team. I use others, but these are my starting three :)

Vanessa

jump in D, stand D, f+A, hcf+C, tap C rapidly, call stiker (Sherm), qcb->hcf+AC ~ about 90% damage

King

jump in C/D, stand D, hcf+C, call striker, qcb->hcf+AC ~ about 85% or so

Benimaru

anytime I land his hcb+A/C, call striker, hcfx2+AC ~ 80% or so if it all hits

Juggleing in 2k rocks, some of the strikers are really fun to use, the character portraits are ace, the gameplay system is fun as hell...

I recind my previous comments about 2k. It's actually a whole lot of fun :)

I love 2k, definately one of my favs. Use Yashiro as a striker for Vanessa and you can make some badass combos.

KOF 2K is one of the finest KOFs, for sure. I've bought, gotten rid of, and bought again, a few 2K home carts. Best character art in any KOF game, ever. Not necessarily the deepest KOF, but definitely one of the most fun. I always come back to it - has the last of the real SNK goodness.

2000 is Teh Goodness. One of the best KOF's to me. People can bitch all they want about strikers (hey, I'm not much of a fan of that systen either), etc but it is the fun factor of 2000 that keeps me coming back for more (well, that and the great soundtrack, graphics and strikers from other games).

2000, is one game where every character has at least 3 100% combos, some like Chang can kill a opponent with 65 different strikers. I can't for the sake of me find a 100% combo with chang using either Chris or Baitang as his striker. Does anyone know how?

Yeah, I've had my eye on 2K for awhile, but I've been having so much fucn with '99 that I haven't quite taken the plunge. Also, I'm kind of a homo about my carts being US, but there's no fuckin' way I'm buying that freaked POS. Anyway, that was causing a little bit of an internal conflict, but I think I'm just about over it now, and believe that my moment of 2K goodness is at hand.

KOF00 in my opinion is better than KOF99, but some people swear by '99. Congrats on your purchase, its well worth the investment.

I honestly don't understand why everyone has such a big boner for KOF 99. I mean sure, it introduced K' and had the most badass background level in the history of KOF. (The rain stage) But KOF 2000 is like the same thing, but with a better striker system, and all of the Other and Maniac Strikers are badass. I mean, the ability to use Goenitz and Neo and Geo as strikers, how can you go wrong?

I agree, I like kof 99 a lot better than kof 99. The presentation is just so much cooler in 2000, art, portraits, combos etc. I bought kof 99 on neo aes today. I played through it a couple times, but Im gonna return to kof 2k soon.

nice to see some people seeing the charm of 2000.
what's fun is using shermie as your striker and doing the bust galactic phantom.
she holds them there long enough for you to pull it off I believe.
just alot of dumb stuff you can do in it.
personally I never really use strikers, even in 2000 except when I'm dicking around with the practice mode.
great game. SNK's last real game.
tears me up inside to see playmore's name on the port for the ps2 at the ending.
reason enough to play the home cart and admire the best cover in the NEO library.

2k... well...

Seth - the only striker you need.

Other than that, the striker system really spoils the game (and 99 to some extend) if you play it high-level against one of those striker combo experts, up to a point where it's no fun anymore for me. It's a great KoF for occasional matches but that's it IMO. CPU is utterly stupid, and don't get me started on Zero, wannabe-Magnum p.i. and the worst KoF boss (AI-wise) after Orochi in 97.

Music is tops (the techno-ish ending track is one of the most energetic pieces of music I've heard in a KoF game), menu system and chara select look very good, some of the backs have a gritty look but I really dig the frozen factory or the shipwreck yard... overall nothing special here.

Another thing about the strikers, I prefer the 2k1 system where you actually have to think about when to sacrifice a power stock, giving strikers extra stocks in 99 and 2k was a big mistake IMO.

That's a good point. Not to mention you can taunt and get another striker bomb out of it. Kim gains really good bar in 2000 with his qcf+k move. Or maybe it's just d+k, i haven't played KOF 2000 in a while.

Aside from KOF2k being a broken game. I love it to death. It's the 1st AES game I bought for my Neo. The presentation of the game is nice along with the music original or arranged. Kula was a great addition as well.

2k all the way!

much 2000 love here, I probably play it once a day for an hour or more.

I love the story cutscenes, something I severely missed in 98, I watch them over and over again.

'So thats the anti K''

'Whats that?'

'nothing'

or .. maybe

"When I fight you your energy goes to zero cannon"

"how"

"there is a generator under the floor, when I fight you it siphons your energy into zero cannon"

"why?"

"so I can create the new world order?"

"so this is nests scheme?"

"nests? that was a mere front"

5 hours later

"so , how was the coffee, did I put enough sugar in"

I'll beat you like a drum!
I was totally impressed by 2000 when I played it and you know what.
all the people that just rely on strikers are pussies anyways.
hell. 2000 is fucking great though.
i guess on the merits of how the game plays it has plenty of loopholes
but really. it's the last game that SNK made.
hell they were closing their doors.
I'm pretty fucking amazed it came out in the first place,
much less in the very good state that it did.
and honestly I thought it had more innovation with the counter and guard system
along with the strikers then most KOFs in the past.
but just about everyone and their mom crys about them so whatever.
I'm quite happy with it.
and really I haven't had the slightest inkling of a desire to own any post 2000 NEOGEO game
since.
well.
maybe SNK v cap...
to wipe my ass with.

I have a lot of great memories of 2k. It's the last KOF where I got my friends to play me for hours and hours. Handing of the big neo controller to the guy waiting after losing. Tons of great matches.

KOF2k beats the SHIT out of 99. 99 is so lame, and then came 2k. Love the characters and art work. Also, the striker system actually works in this game. Great interface, too.

Overall, great game. Will have to buy that soon for my MVS.

I love both 99 and 2000, but overall I would have to go with 2000 if I had to choose. Why though is a stupid reason I think, because it shouldn't be an issue... :mad_2: 99 would be my choice between the two is Iori was only selectable from the get go.

2000 is definitely one of my favorites in the series (but then again,
of course it is, seeing as it introduced my all-time favorite in KoF
or any other fighting series for that matter). '99 was okay, the main
things I liked about it were the rainy park stage, Krizalid (it's all
about the high collar jacket and "Old Navy!" :D ), and the soundtrack,
especially Sadistic Eyes :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:.

It's got all the bad ass people from all the other Neo games like Fio and Kaede. Goenitz and Geese are even there. Kyoko rules!

Yeah KOF2000 is awesome..I guess the brokenness of the strikers is the main reason why they got removed over all..

Now picture this..the next dreammatch with tag and assist(oops Strikers I mean)

We pretty much have MVC2 there don't we!!!!!

Uh...

Why did you bump a thread that's over a year and a half old? Just start a new one.

Hey Dark_Geese, here's the deal concerning old threads:

- bumping old threads to continue a discussion or add something worthwhile is perfectly okay

- mass-bumping old threads to add some "mee toooo" replies will get you banned.

Okay?

Thank you.

I didnt notice that much of a difference between 99 and 2k, except that there were more characters, and I owed someones ass the first time I played it. I think both are equally awesome. :glee:
