Over Hyped?

I managed to snatch a copy of Garou: MOTW off ebay a few days ago and it finally arrived today.

When i saw the box sitting on my doormat waiting for me I couldn't get it open quick enough!

However, after a few goes I can't help but feel the game is well.....over-hyped. Most people claim that its the best thing since cheese slices and possibly the best game to grace the Neo-Geo. I honestly can say I don't feel the same way as those people.

The game looks great, and its nice to see an all new line up of characters...nice supers etc but its just lacking something. I've blatsed through it a few times with a few of the characters, but theres theres no compeling urge to return to it. For me KOF96/98 are alot more impressive and I can see myself putting this game back up for auction.

Anyone else feel the same way about it?

It loks great and plays great but is too easy and too short and not enough characters. nice enough game but not as good as some say.

Really? I just recently acquired it as well, for a brief period of time anyway (that's another story) and I really loved it. Most of the characters are really appealing and fun to play and I can't wait to get another crack at it. I like Kim the best (at least, I think that was his name). For me the difficulty is just right. The boss isn't too cheap like other SNK fighters. Remember the days of SFII when bosses used to be beatable and didn't use cheap tactics? The Samurai Shodown series, KOF, and well just about all the SNK fighters have the cheapest bosses ever! Anyway.. where was I.. oh, yeah, I love this game and think it completely lives up to the hype. But that's just my opinion... and it ain't worth much.

I agree with you. It is a fun, fast-paced game, easy to pick up and do well so it appeals to a lot of people. It really shouldn't be compared to KOF or other SNK fighting games though, its a radically different game from anything else on the Neo.

Why not just get the Dreamcast port? Its like $20 and plays close enough to perfectly. The game is at least worth that much.

Ok, i won´t be rude, but the first week i´ve thought the same...
How could i spent around $600,00 for these game i´ve asked myself, but after getting into it, i´ve noticed that "MotW" have great potential.
Today it´s definately my favorite on Neo-Geo, in front of KoF98, RBS, AoF III and SS4.

BTW not even my fav. And there are much of other games on Neo, like some KoF-Parts, MS1, which are totally OVERRATED/OVER-HYPED!!! :rolleyes:

I think it's overhyped, too.

It is easy to pick up and play, the controls are perfect, the supers come off nice everytime, and the difficulty level is a little easy to just right.

For some reasons, it just doesn't have that lasting impact that many Neo games have. There are too few characters, the game can be beaten pretty quickly and easily.

Granted, I know if you work at it more, you can achieve high combo counts, master JDing to a level where you JD supers and get a ton of energy back, and mix up taunts with combos to get higher combos or something, but the game just doesn't captivate me enough to work on all that.

If you ask me, this game doesn't live up to the $500+ hype of the Home cart. The Dreamcast Version fits the bill just fine.

Garou over hyped? That's the first time I hear that.
Garou is definitely THE fighter out there for two player matches! Nothing can keep up with it!

The gameplay is absolutely perfect and 100% balanced....2D fighters can't get any better.

I love this game

Games like Slug1 or KoF are over hyped....

i am startin to hate motw now,
because of all the fuckin HYPE

the game needs a tweaked sequel

It isn't so bad. The problem is
that it's too short to play solo.
Playing this game in versus mode
makes it more competitive,
fun and long

Heh, dood...i've been walking this earth for close to 23 years and I've been playing games since I was about 10 so I don't think Im a newbie

I've seen all of the cool stuff come and go, Its just I was expecting alot more for my money ya know?

Fair play, you can't really compare it to KOF...but Ive spent alot more time playing the Fatal Fury games and I can't really see myself being converted to thinking that this is the best.

I love MOTW but my favs will always be the Slugs....in no way, are these games overhyped. They are simply the finest the Neo has to offer...hands down........buy 'em now.....

Same here.

MotW is a nice game with very good, very polished gfx, but that's about it. I'd prefer some rounds of RBFF or FFS rather than getting bored in MotW's 1P mode.

Specially the shitloads of double-qcf supers suck, while the T.O.P thingy is a nice idea.

i like this game alot, not my fav, but i love it, but i think they should have made some supers more complicated, and i think marco is alot more powerful than the other normal charachters, i can whip people twice as fast with him, metal slug and king of fighters are NOT overhyped. metal slug i think is the best series on neo, and fighting games are my fav gendre. and kof is THE best fighting series, i know some are better than others
