So I'm getting close to enough money to afford an AES and a game, but I was wondering which would be good to start with.

Samurai Showdown 2 is looking good, or am I missing something?

I started with KoF '95 wich is in fact a pretty good "beginner". But Sam Sho 2 is as good man.
As an advice, I'd tell you not to buy an expensive game right now, enjoy first the oldies! ;)

Samurai Spirits 2 and KOF 94. Both are inexpensive and hours of fun. :glee:

I say Sam Sho 2 hands down. Even if it was a 500 dollar cart, I'd still recommend it (but maybe not as a beginner cart).

Anyway, you'll NEVER get tired of this one as long as you own your Neo (trust me) - it's a no-brainer.

I started with the old school titles and my first game I played was Ninja Combat. Start with the old then work towards the new...or do whatever. Samurai Shodown 2 is a good start anyways...but Id start with the original Samurai Shodown game. :)

For a cheap game I'd go with SS 2.

For a middle price game go with KOF '98.

Samurai Shodown 2 sucks.

This dude's job is to test crack before the dealers send it out to the market - so take his opinion with a grain of salt.

GET SAM SHO 2 - IT FUCKING PWNZ!!!!

Samurai Shodown 2 sucks. Get a Real Bout game or KOF '98.
I'm not a huge fan of the SS series myself, but at least I know how to differentiate between something that sucks, and something I merely don't like.

And if you're having trouble saving for an AES and 1 game, you might want to look into getting a supergun or cconsolized MVS. You'll be able to buy your 2nd and 3rd games sooner. Especially if you want to buy anything newer than FFS, AOF1,2, or SS1,2. Example:

KOF '96 AES: $155 at NeoStore

KOF '94 MVS: $50
KOF '95 MVS: $35
KOF '96 MVS: $42 at Arcade Shock
-----------------------
total: $127 for 3 games.

The winner= MVS.

The AES inserts are cool, but are they really worth 300+% of the game itself?

Now that's a no-brainer. It's not as prestegeous as owning an AES system, but you'll get over it once you realize how much money you're saving while getting the same quality.

Samurai Shodown 2
Fatal Fury Special
The King of Fighers 94 or 95

And like Southtownkid said... if you have the money get a supergun.

Or a modded X-box. :)

LEGEND OF SUCCESS JOE

The problem is if you buy this first, you'll find all other neo games instantly inferior.... either that or your mind will, quite literally, e x p l o d e

Good for you  I do think it sucks, and I am, at least I was the last time I checked, entitled to that opinion.

here a a few other affordable neo titles:

ghost pilots
fatal fury special
super sidekicks
soccer brawl
art of fighting 2

samurai 2 is a sound choice btw, but personally fatal fury special is the daddy of the beat em ups and if you want a challenge go for art of fighting 2, alot of people will tell you it sucks but those are the guys who suck at it as its rock hard

personally i suck at it but i can appreciate it

I'm glad you learned what an opinion is. If you'd presented it as an opinion before, people wouldn't have jumped on you. I'm not a big fan of the movie, 'Citizen Kane'. I can understand from a technical and historical perspective why it is a great movie, but the story didn't particularly involve me. I don't go around like an idiot saying, "Citizen Kane sucks," because it doesn't. I just don't happen to like it much. See the difference?
