Do Mega/Super Neo Owners feel the mods are worth it ?

The reason I ask is that I'm considering getting my AES modded, but being a UK citizen the costs are prohibitive. Wer're looking at $110 postage each way plus the $130 mod costs, plus import duty, VAT & tax on return to the UK. That amounts to circa $400.
....Seems a lot for a slightly sharper picture.

What do you folks think?

Thanks

You are in the UK, why not just use RGB? Or was that a dumb question I just made?

Well I am running a PAL AES through a SCART lead. Being a non-techie can you advise me as to whether this provides equivalent picture and sound quality to S-Video and composite stereo?

Thanks

The SVIDEO hack, as I understand it, and granted I am not the best person to ask about this, but I believe that it is just using the RGB out converted to SVIDEO. So in other words, you already have the best picture if you are doing SCART out.

RGB = Better, so you should stick with it...

$130 for mod costs? Who quoted you that? That's way too much.

Go to USPS.com and you can calulate what shipping will run from the US to your location. Generally, when I do mods for people in the UK, it runs around $30USD for return Air shipping -- a little more for EMS.

Thats good news for me, thanks very much guys. Means I can afford to buy my back-up AES now, instead of paying for mods.
There are advantages to living in the UK after all :-)
Ref the mod costs, these were quoted by KPJ.

Just out of interest JMKurtZ why are UK Neo owners having their systems modded if they already benefit from superior picture quality? Presumably this is purely to get the stereo sound?

Thanks again,

Give you 1 guess :)

Hello Tonk,

Thanks for your interest in my AES modifications.

The mods that I perform to the Neo system are as follows:

• S-Video Mod: This GREATLY enhances the Neo's video signal. Using RF or Composite (yellow) is not satisfactory if your a video buff (like myself). It is the best analog connection possible on a television set! (The only one which exceeds is Component interface (this is a digital signal which is on DVD players, HDTVs, etc...)

• Composite Video (RCA Yellow): This eliminates the need for proprietary cables!

If you Television set lack's a S-Video Port, don't worry! You can still hook the unit up via RF switch (Coaxial Cable) or by Composite (Yellow Plug).

• Stereo L/R: This gives the Neo TRUE Stereo sound. Without it, you only have a Mono soundfield (one channel). This taps into the Neo's headphone jack, which in turn, boosts the power of the signal significantly. Once again, if your into hooking your components up thru a Home Theater/Stereo System, this is a much needed modification.

• Debug Bios Upgrade: This is basically an internal Game Shark for the Neo. It is able to augment your system "mode" (MVS, JPN Home, US Home, Developer Home, etc..) You can also modify attributes (Time Limits, Live #s, etc..) On top of that, you can also input numbers which modify the game (just like a game shark...)

• Reset Button Power LED: Simply cosmetic. Since the Neo Geo lacks any form of power indicator, I add it so you know when the power's on! I used to keep my personal system on for hours/days (without knowing) due to the lack of such feature.

(*LEDs vary in color, from: Red, Green, Orange, Yellow & Blue. Some will even pulsate/flash!*)

The complete Mega-Modification is $130 + return shipping

I hope this has answered your questions in detail. I look forward to doing business together. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. I should have a component mod available soon, just need to perfect it

I accept payments via PayPal, Cash &/or POSTAL Money Orders. If you decide to have your system modified, I would need you to send the AC adaptor along with the main unit. Joysticks & AV Cables are not necessary for this procedure.

I have included a picture of a prior system that was "Mega-Modded".

Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely
Kpj

RGB should provide A1 picture quality, there is absolutly no need to get s-video if you live in the UK.

The stereo mod is really cool if you hook your AES up to an amp, but not worth the shipping costs imo.

The debug bios chip is really useful, but you should be able to find some one to fit that in the Uk for you if you supply the chip (available @ the neo store)

The l.e.d's are just bullshit cosmetic garbage, for those who want their joysticks and aes decks to glow like the strip in Vegas. Tacky... very tacky.

Fact is the AES RGB ranges from so-so to total shit: you do need to mod it to make it like that of MVS.
Also, it's nice to have stereo through the scart instead of drilling holes in the back of the machine.:glee:

Hmmn, true I suppose. I've never had any complaints with RGB on the decks I've used, but I was aware that the aes RGB output is not as crisp as mvs. Pretty damn good all the same imo tho.

I love mine, but you already have the best you can get. I don't think s-video is going to help you.

Usually it's for the RGB mod, Stereo, and Debug. Some get the SVideo just for the hell of it I guess. I don't get many requests, but I usually tell people to seach these forums as there are a couple people in the UK that can do these and save on shipping. Some don't care and just have me do them.
