I openly apologize to Tom here for bashing him in the other thread.

The truth is that Tom put up $2400 to secure 2 carts from the French bastards.

I obviously was left out in the dark on the intentions of Tom.

He did a great thing for the community and he, not I should be thanked.

I don't think I've ever been embarassed on this forum before, but there is a first for everything.

Tom, I'm sorry.

- Mike

He was telling the truth...

If he wanted his name mentioned this bad, he could have mailed me.

Shouldn't you feel proud enough doing something good w/o making sure you let everyone know what part you had in it?

Well Tom, there it is....

Are you satisfied now?

For the way you handled it, nobody should thank you.

You are just a glamour whore who had to make sure EVERYONE knew the specific details of how you spent BIG BUCKS!

Thanks for nothing...

And shove your money up your ass.

That's the second worst apology I've ever heard.

who is the real bad guy?

Gentlemen.

:spock:

I just want to point out that in the end, nobody is really the "bad guy" in this. Let me explain why this is the case.

To call the French "bastards", or to criticize Tom Smallwood, or even to hate me is completely hypocritical. At ANY point along the "CHAIN" of Ghostlop's "ownership", ANYONE could have come forward and been the "good guy". The truth is that being the good guy does not come without PERSONAL SACRIFICE! Personal sacrifice which comes with HUGE FINANCIAL SACRIFICE to ONLY the individual who takes the risk. The truth is, the LONGER the "chain" gets, the EASIER it is for those at the back end of the chain to perform the "sacrifice". But REGARDLESS of WHEN this sacrifice finally occurrs, accusing those at the beginning of the chain of being "bad guys" or "bastards" is completely UNFOUNDED and UNFAIR!

When I got Ghostlop, I paid for it MYSELF out of my OWN pocket and with NO HELP. I then offerred it up for SALE. At this time ANYONE could have been "the good guy" and paid me my asking price, and then dumped it free for "you guys--the neo community".

Where were you guys?!

Later, Team France offerred the item up for SALE. At this time, AGAIN, anyone could have been "the good guy" and paid them their asking price, and then dumped it free for "the masses".

Where were you guys?!

Finally the game reaches Tom Smallwood (by ways which the previous thread alludes to) and he too places the item up for SALE on ebay.

Where were you guys?!

ALL of the people along the chain mentioned above were simply trying to GET THEIR INVESTMENT BACK! They wanted to make the game available but had spent/risked/invested money into the project and were trying to get it returned FIRST!

The truth is that it's easy as hell to sit on your ass and say shit like "gib me da romz" and call people names when you don't lift a finger or spend a dime. Those people are LEACHES and they don't help the community. They risk NONE of their own money, and they give NONE of their own time or talent to everyone else.

A mere 2 months ago, a small group of you guys were banding together to come up with roughly $15,000 in a pool of funds to pay a "questionable" character for some protos that were not even PROVEN to EXIST! the seller would not even provide so much as ONE SCREENSHOT!

BUT...last year...when I offered up Ghostlop with 100% CONFIRMED AND PROVIDED INFO, PICS, SCREENSHOTS, AND VIDEO PROOF!!!, and for a mere $3,000 (which was WHAT I HAD INVESTED AND NEEDED BACK!!! NOT GREED!!!) yet amazingly nobody answered the call?

Rather insane if you ask me!?

NOBODY is the "bad guy". NOBODY is a "bastard". People need to EITHER band together and take a SHARED RISK when it comes to protos that surface (such as is done in the atari proto community) or they need to WAIT and be PATIENT until time passes and the chain eventually gets long enough so whoever is at the end can finally provide it at little or no personal/financial sacrifice.

I have trouble with thinking this is kosher. Would the buyer of the said game be made aware previously that the very person who was selling them it at top dollar was about to release the rom? Where's the ethics in that? please clarify. I'm not being sarcastic by the way, I just want to find the reasoning behind screwing someone over like this.

YES!
:glee:
This is EXACTLY why I said...PERSONAL as well as financial.

There is a certain CODE OF HONOR among people...its called common courtesy and respect. And you are correct, at ANY point along that chain, as the game's "ownership" is passed, the previous owners (now ALREADY COMPENSATED) could simply release the roms without FINANCIAL sacrifice.

HOWEVER...this is completely unethical to those whom the previous owner sold the game's ownership to. It is a very cruel and unfair thing to do, as it at the very least AFFECTS the ability of the new owner to get his ROI if not eliminate it!

I could have given away the ghostlop data a year ago and been a "hero" to the community. And I could have done so AFTER selling it off to the French and having recouped my investment funds. BUT...what would that have done to the French? That would have BACK-STABBED them and SCREWED them. And that is just not right. Business is NOT conducted that way.
(and is that what some are saying has happened here among smallwood, tonk, and the others at the end of the chain?)

Okay explain this to me, why couldn't you have dumped it when you bought it? Why did someone have to buy it from you to dump it? :smirk:

because he had invested 3.5k in the proto - money he didn't have in the first place, and therefore needed back.

so if a game is dumped the cart loses value?
is it because it can be burnt to eproms from the dump?

NOBODY is the "bad guy". NOBODY is a "bastard".

excepting kaos :D

ps: the french release is the main reason why you all have the game today... don't do has if you were the heroes ;)...
what you did is not so exceptional...

that french release is still better than these people keeping rare items from them...

ALL of the people along the chain mentioned above were simply trying to GET THEIR INVESTMENT BACK!
if you were the guy who has bought the proto, i would understand you would try to make money with it...

the french released the game the firsts... even if it was too expensive.
you released the rom, that's just a part of the thing, and not the most difficult...

that was a secret for nobody that one day the rom would appear. from the beginning of that release, we were waiting for the dump... so from here or from some chinese people... lol
for those who have bought the release... there was a risk and they knew it.

from now, if the guy who have bought the french mvs exemplar is going to sell bootlegs and conversions from ghostlop he will do the same thing that the people who released the game... you will try to get your investment back (as supergun said ), so you will make money with a game that isn't yours ;)

When the NeoGeo emulation started and romz were available, game prices made nothing but increase... so I don't really think the game will loose value for being dumped. Just take a look at the Euro Kizuna Encounter... the romz have been there for ages, still it sells for a huge quantity.
