I just got Warrior's Rage today, and popped it in. The in-game models are major jaggy compared to Buriki and Wild Ambition. Is this normal? Or, is something maybe jacked up with my cart? Any info? I mean, its noticeably different. If someone has that game and another and can tell me if its supposed to be that way...that would rock.

Added picture! Anyone help?!

jag.jpg

Closest thing to describe it, is as if Buriki One ran in 640x480, and Warrior's Rage was running in 320x240. [except the backgrounds and titles screen look up to par in terms of res] I'm totally confused by this. If its supposed to be this way, then I'll deal with it. I just need to know. :loco:

Ah shit....that looks way too pixelated....but I don't even own the game.....you might want to wait until some other guys who actually own the game chime in...but yeah....too pixelated methinks....maybe some in-game setting might fix this?

Yeah, I was playing it again earlier...It looks OKAY...but just noticeably different from other Hyper games. I'm kinda worried. :crying: Its not as severe as it may look in the screenshot, everything looks different in motion. Just lower res. I really wish someone could confirm whether its supposed to be this way or not.

All hyper 64 games display jaggines, but I do not recall seeing anything like that on my Warriors Rage. It could be your monitor. And if I remember it correctly aren't you using your Hyper 64 via a SuperGun to your TV? That might explain it.

I do not know if this would help, but you can give it a try. Go into test mode, and got into the monitor test from the test menu. The test patterns for the monitor adjustments will be displayed. Screen display alignment, color, convergence, focus, character display, etc can be confirmed and adjusted. Once you are done press the A button to return to the main menu.

Hmmmm, I am using a Supernova...but Buriki and FF WA look fine. I need to do a search on the forums to hopefully dig up HOW to get into test mode using a Supernova [no test button, arrgh!...and the damn jumpers do nada] I was looking at some vids of the game on insertcredit.com. Its hard to tell for sure, but they are making me think I might have gotten a semi-bunk cart. This is gonna' drive me crazy. I'll see what I can figure out. thanks!

As I told you before on a thread that you made in the Tech Forum:

Looking at the schematics, it shows that pin 15 is for the test switch, and pin R is for the service switch.

Try shorting pin 15 to GND. If that doesn't work, repeat the same step but with pin R instead.

Sort of looks like what you get when you get abad connection between an MVS cart and mother board due to dirty contacts..

Take the cart off and blow into the holes where the cart plugs into the board.

Or..

Make sure the board is pushed all the way onto the motherboard..(Clips up)
While it's on the mother board press on the sides like a sandwich and see if you get any changes on screen..

One pin may be not making good contact between the boards or dirt and dust/corrosion may be an issue.

I could of swore I read that different Hyper 64 games require variations in voltage..As some may need a slight raise in voltage to work properly..
Maybe the voltage is to low for this particular game..

Charles would have to verify though..

I remembered you telling me about that...But can I do that with a Supernova? Are we talking about pins on the Jamma edge connector? [forgive my noob-ness] Cuz, I would have to slide the harness down a little to get to it...or would I? I'm a little clueless on how exactly to do it. I guess I could touch a wire to the very top of the terminal on the board then the other to ground? Is that right?

thanks for all the help

As far as I know all Hyper 64 games (at least the fighting ones) use the same voltage.

Yes, You can to that with a wire or a paper clip. (SAFER)

Other method would be to take the end of the wire from the JAMMA harness that goes to pin 15 (if it is not connected to something else), and make contact with the power supply GND connector.

Worked! awesome...thanks...now that I am in the monitor test section...how can I tell whats working...whats not? How to make adjustments? [since I'm on a TV]

I don't know if its standard on every game, but its on my buriki monitor setup as well as FF:WA, and thats a couple small photos at the top of the screen with all the color bars and stuff of strawberries and colorful thumb tacks or something...ANYWAY, its on both those games, but the photos DON'T appear on my Warriors Rage montor test screen. Are those supposed to be there?

thanks again!

This is what my manual says:

"The test patterns for the monitor adjustments will be displayed. Screen display alignment, color, convergence, focus, character display, etc can be confirmed and adjusted. Once you are done press the A button to return to the main menu."

Then there is a picture below that has the following legend:

"As you push the B button on the above screen, the screen switches to 2 kind of screens, "Solid White" and "Cross Hatch Screen"."

So, I have no idea. You better write down your current monitor settings before doing something else.

Just curious, did you try the suggestion that chris1 gave you. Make sure the cart is all the way in, make sure that the contacts are clean, etc.

Did not notice your edit before. I am a bit confused. Will it be possible for you to show the screen shots? So I could see what you are talking about.

Also, if I remember correctly, Warriors Rage was the last game ever produced for the Hyper 64. So it would not surprise me if it is a bit different from the others.

Anyway, can you modify the convergence, focus, etc so the graphics will look a bit better?

hmmm, i got through all those, only thing i noticed is it was sans the strawberry picture thingy. ??? I have a feeling i may not come to a conclusion this way. I might end up getting another cart. If its the same, then the game is fine and I can sell one. If not, then I'll have a new one.

I can't really do too much since I am using a TV. It seems that the monitor test is just color, cross-hatch, etc

Is there a way to adjust through the test menus?

I'll post some screens tomorrow...me go sleepy now

Not that I am aware of, unless you go into the service menu and try it from there. Service switch is pin R, so just do the short to ground thing.

I doubt that you have a faulty cart because you are missing the strawberry icon, but I could be wrong.

You know, just for the heck of it, try it on another TV (provided if you have another one) as it sounds to me that your issue is monitor related rather than cartridge related. But I could be wrong.

Good idea, I am felling very sleepy too. And I think that I am starting to me no sense at all. :loco:

Wow, it's been a damn long time since I've been in here...

The pixelation you're seeing looks about right to me. The Samurai games both look worse than FF: WA, and in fact, look worse than Buriki as well.

The screen shot you left, while it looks like it is enhanced by it being on a TV, looks about like what I get with the Super Nova I have.

Wasn't Warrior's Rage the first SS64, and Asura Zanmaden the second? Hmm... or was 2 actually called Warrior's Rage? ERRRR! I can't remember how that goes...

I have been tempted to hunt down another cart to re-affirm my suspicions...Its actually Sam Sho2: Warriors Rage...Its just sooooo noticeable if you were to play it right after the other games [FF WA, etc] None of the facial features, etc are visible at the normal camera distance...just a pixelly mess. We'll see...my obsessive behavior over such things will probably still have me get another cart to make damn sure...as I LOVE this game.

Well, I haven't fired up my Hyper in a while, I'll tell you what, I'll play this weekend sometime and take a pic and you can compare. Hopefully that'll help so you don't have to waste money. Do you have any more screen grabs?

If you could, get a decent pic of when the camera pans back [as for most the fighting] and one of a winning pose. Thanks mucho!

Yo, pixeljunkie, sorry it's taking so long. I need to find someone to take the pics (I suck with a digital camera). My Father has agreed to take the pics tomorrow evening, so I will play the game and post the pics tomorrow evening.

I got my Dad to help me out tonight. You'll have to forgive the weird angles, he was in a hurry.

I think what you are seeing is 'normal' for this particular game through the Super Nova w/ S-video.

Here are links to the pics:

http://users.zoominternet.net/~cerebus/WR1.jpg
http://users.zoominternet.net/~cerebus/WR2.jpg
http://users.zoominternet.net/~cerebus/WR3.jpg
http://users.zoominternet.net/~cerebus/wr4.jpg
http://users.zoominternet.net/~cerebus/wr5.jpg
http://users.zoominternet.net/~cerebus/wr6.jpg

I think it's all dependent on angles and where you are standing at any given time as to how 'bad' it looks.

Let me know if that helps alleviate your fears or not. I can take a couple more pics if you want, just not until weds or so.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the game is just more pixelated than the others...surprisingly so. I think I'll quit obsessing now. Thanks again man! :glee:
