MN members: Announcing the summer 2004 Neo Get together!!!

Thats right folks! It's time again for another one of those epic Minnesota gaterings! You might be wondering why so soon? Well, since each year gets bigger and better, we decided that we really should to have 2 each year: One in the summer, and one in the winter! This will be Minnesota's first year hosting two gatherings, and we can't wate to see old and new faces alike!

So, here's the basic info:

Saturday, June 5th, 2004

Noon till whenever!


We wanted to announce this early so that everye has plenty of time to plan. Summer Vacation will just be starting for most, so we felt it a good day to have the gathering. Also, this early announcement will give plenty of time for you to figure out what to bring, and if any friends want to join in!

We will decide on food and such as the time draws near, but it seemed that Cora's was a great choice last year, so we may do it again! We can decide on number of TV's and such after we have a decent head count. WE don;t weant to be short on the goodness factor.

As always, the MN croud always has a blast, but we want to give a friendly reminder to those bringing friends and new faces: We will be having a wide selection of games and systems at the gathering, and to keep folks property (and yours) safe, please only bring friends who you trust and know well. We have never had a problem, and probobly never will, but we just want to make sure that we have a croud of people ready to have some honest fun!

As the time nears, we will post what we need, and who will bring what. That way, you don't have to truck your whole collection with you! For now though: POST IF YOU CAN MAKE IT!!! There will always be a flow of info in this post, so check back often for updates!

We hope to have another great turn out, and make some new friends in the works! Again, plan for plenty of games, good food, and great gaming with some truly wonderful folks!!!

Also, me and Mike talked briefly about changing the tv setup. This time around we're gonna go for that arcade feel and have all the televisions in the center of the party room rather than lacing the walls. It shouldn't be difficult, a couple extension cables with multi-taps, no problem.

And perhaps we should go back to the pizza routine. Not everyone was happy with the food situation last year, and I believe just about everyone digs pizza.:eye: :eye: So, if we can all agree on pizza then my vote is for Pizza Hut. Pappa Murphy's is dirt cheap ($8 a large), but you get what you pay for.:annoyed:

How about sandwiches as another option? I don't understand what problems people had with those wings, I normally hate wings and those ruled.

Yeah, I don't understand why people would have a problem with Cora's either! What we will probpbly do is try to offer a variety so that everyone will be happy. We thought about sandwiches last time. Probelm is: Money. Food isn't cheap, so we need to find something worthwhile, and while a Which' is good, they are really pricey.

How about a good old fashion pot luck? All the major MN member ( the ones that post on a regular basis and go to the movie gatherings and what not) bring a food dish they made or bought on the way over. That way there is a whole ton of good food and everybody should be happy.

I've marked the calendar, so count me in. I will be there till the break of dawn this time.

Plus if we go with Pizza we can order two rounds so it will be hot and fresh each time. I think this will be better than letting the BBQ rot on the table all afternoon.

Maybe someone can set up a VCR and record some matches, then use a capture card later on and capture them. Or just capture it live (less quality loss that way). If someone wants to bring a PC for that, the Hauppauge (sp?) ImpactVCB can be had for under $20 shipped and most models of it have S-video. Runs great on my celeron600/64mb pc.

I'll bring over 3 guys or so, and we really really want to play some 16 player Halo, so all you Halo players out there, lets try it. My boy probably still has his hub. We will bring a xbox with 4 controllers.

Also, we really want to play some good Soul Calibur 2 or 1 players. We also have a very good Tekken Tag Player that claims that he's one of the top in our state, so I want someone to prove him wrong, and give him a challenge...

Plus, I wanna challenge in KOF 98 obviously, so bring it the fuck on...Goro owns y'all....:buttrock:

Hey, I'm a regular in the Street Fighter scene in MN and saw this link from the MN thread at Shoryuken.com. I know Big Mike has mentioned this gathering in the past and I'd be interested in seeing what it's all about. First, a few questions: this looks to be just a giant video game gathering with lots of good multiplayer games, but what games do you guys primarily play? I assume there are some SNK fighting games like KoF. What about other 2D fighters such as GGXX and Capcom games (CVS2, MVC2, SF3:3S, SFA3, etc)?

Also, I don't know where "The Tearrace room at CriterionRadiohead's APT" is (and I'm guessing that many people that are new to the gathering wouldn't either). Whereabouts might that be located?

Anyway, this get-together sounds like fun, and I look forward to coming and meeting a bunch of other vidiots like myself :) .

Hello, it's always good to see new MN members who enjoy the goodness that are fighters; Sammy, Capcom, SNK, Namco or otherwise.

To answer your first question, the games that got the most play at the last gathering were...

1. Magical Drop 3
2. Guilty Gear XX
3. Street Fighter III: Third Strike
4. Garou: Mark of the Wolves
5. Soul Calibur II

...most of the kats involved play primarily fighters and shooters.

To answer your second question, Criterionradiohead's Terrace Room is located on the corner of Jefferson and Lexington in St. Paul. Don't worry, the exact addy will be posted, eventually.

Sadly I probably won't make this gathering as my wife will be due around that date. If there is any way in hell to be there though I will and I'll bring the capcom comp.

TJ-Stefan--I just got back from cali and the 3S comp is MAD there. Rushdown city. I got to play Pyro, Frankie, YiWang, Soo and Combofiend. It was nice. FF is the place to be for competition that place was too cool.

Verbatum--I'd still like to play you at #reload. Don't be sick. :)

Magician and I where talking yesterday about the food situation. Now, since many of us have differnt ideas about what we consider good food, we cam u up with this idea: Have several offerings. This is what we have in mind:

PinkShoes will cook her Beef Stoganoff, and her chip dip (if she still wants to that is).

S. Short Skank will make her Swedish Meat balls (Yum!)

There will be pizza (we could do Pizza Luce, Pappa Johns, or for real quality, Cossettas)

There will be Wings from Cora's

Magician will bring the Little whores



If you want Cora's or and Pizza, then you can chip in for the price of food. We will also have people bring chips, Pop, and other snacks (that means YOU). This should be a good varity ensuring everyone to be fed. If none of this sounds good, suggestions are welcome, or you can dine out and then return to the gathering.

Later, we can post a list of who can bring what for snacks and pop.

Remember kids, my Neo Geo is broken (yes Grouch... again). So if we want to enjoy Neo Geo in S-video goodness... someone is going to have to bring one. I have cables (S-video, Stereo, and Power adaptor), we just need a system. I also have 2 six foot controller extension cables for the Neo... why I mentioned that... no reason besides that extension cables OWN!!!11

Does anyone have an extra S-video cable for the Dreamcast and/or Saturn. If so and you would like to get rid of either (hopefully both) I will gladly purchase these items from anyone at the gathering. Thanks...

There should be one for sure. I too have a Hyper 64 with SS64, SS Asura Zanmanden, and Garou: Wild Ambition. Problem is, the guy with the Supergun might not be there all night for sure, so I would'nt bring the Hyper. Plus, it's soo much to carry!!! If you come to the next one, I can bring my Sigma. I'm always there till the wee hours.

Cool. Personally, I dig having a Sigma, since I can have the board in a good quality TV and stereo system of my choice. Plus, I love using the Sigma or Neo Sticks on my boards.

There should be one for sure. I too have a Hyper 64 with SS64, SS Asura Zanmanden, and Garou: Wild Ambition. Problem is, the guy with the Supergun might not be there all night for sure, so I would'nt bring the Hyper. Plus, it's soo much to carry!!! If you come to the next one, I can bring my Sigma. I'm always there till the wee hours.

One thing that's great about the REv 2 board, is it's JAMMA+, and you can get stereo out of the harness!

Anyway, I thought the overall experience was very groovy! Good comp, good food, good friends = good times. It was awesome that MedicineHorse and Grinwing made it out (Mike, I'm sorry I didn't get to play you in some Garou, next time I hope). Glenn's daughter schooling a drunk djdelly in NBA Street Vol. 2 was pure comedy gold. The yelling and hollering was mint and gave the room a great arcade vibe. All I have left to say is...I look forward to december folks.

...are the only games I wanted to play and I got very good comp.

There's a couple dozen other games being I didn't get to because I was deep into those I mentioned above. If there was something you wanted to play, you should've spoken up.




Sorry, most of the MN Neo clique are shooter, RPG and/or Neo Geo-only fighter players. The exceptions being...Verbatum = GG lovah, Ramad = SC lovah, MedicineHorse = 3s lovah and Ryu1972 = MK lovah. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took time to come out to the gathering. It was great to see you all again, and meet a few new people.

Thank you to everyone who brought TVs and games. Extra special thanks to those who came back on Sunday to help clean, move furniture, etc... couldn't have done it without you guys.

I have to say, I loved the setup this time. It really felt like old times at the arcade with all the TVs gathered in the middle. The arcade screams were a plenty at this get together. :D

I have just one gripe (and yeah, I know many of you have already heard this) but man... we need more Neo Geo at the Neo Gathering. Now you all know I could give two shits or a fuck about people bringing countless other games and systems besides the Neo, but when there is a meager two Neo Geo's, and one of them is broken... that just doesn't cut it. We couldn't even play League Bowling link up if we had wanted to. So, what I'm asking of all of you, is next time bring your Neo Games (NOT THE FREAKIN' ROMS... even though I did enjoy plenty of TSS), bring your home systems, hell if your feeling ambitious bring your cabs... but there has to be more Neo Geo at the Neo Gathering. We are all collectors to some extent, whether some of us want to admit it or not. We all know what the games are worth and how to take good care of them. OK... my ranting is done. :D
