I am considering purchasing a Neo AES system, and want to get some feedback from anyone who is currently using a modified Neo system.

1. Would you buy a modified system all over again if you had the chance?

2. If you did it all over again, would you find a pristine system elsewhere, and have it modified by someone like Arcade?

3. Or would you buy one already converted from someone like Arcade or the NeoStore?

Thanks. wink

What region-system are you looking for?

If you´re a european user you could simply go for a PAL unit, mod it to PAL-60 and use it through RGB which (in some cases) gives a crisp look. You can get stereo sound from the phone plug on the front of the console. As for region-switches you don´t really need them imho.

I have an opportunity to purchase a Japanese system unmodified, which I would modify. Or an American system, already modified.

Right now I have a modded jpn. system, bought that way from Ray Young at !arcade! and I really like it.

However, you really don't need the stereo mod, as you can just plug in thru the headphone jack and get the same effect. All I use is the svideo and debug, they're the most useful mods IMO.

Also, if I was to buy another AES, it would definitely be an unmodded US system, so I wouldn't have to toggle the debug everytime I want to read text. Sure, blood and bounce would be censored, but those are negligible details to me. Stereo like I said above, and plus I don't like the look of the extra ports jutting out from the back of the console. I think it would be cheaper to just get what you need modified by JMKurtz, but it'll save time and shipping to just buy it done already.

Anyways, one is better than none, but two is better than one!

I don't know if this is true, but I've seen most members here say that the older run models do the best with s-video mod attached, and have the best picture.

Because somehow the newer models tried to increase the sharpness of the picture, and adding a mod to those would create pixels within pixels, making for poorer quality.

...Or something like that. spock

I would seriously reccomend you get a modified console for two reasons:

The S-video mod will give your video quality a serious upgrade (provided you have a S-video compatible TV).

The Bios upgrade will allow you to switch languages (as well as enable blood and 'adulty' stuff only seen in the Jap version of some games), as well as letting you play the arcade version of the game.

Don't expect the pixellated look to change. That's not going to improve. The color bleeding will be a thing of the past though.

An xneo1 is a sort of external mod that lets you use stereo,s-video, scart cable and rgb externaly, this is great if you dont want to get your system tore up full of add ons on the back of the system. It actually works better than I have ever imagined, this is not like the mod to the system for example:

stereo xneo + mod

svideo xneo + mod

rgb xneo+depends on the mod

resolution can be enhanced
w/o having the resolution prob. xneo

eliminates dot crawl xneo + depends on what mod

price
xneo from $130-175
mod depends what you want if everything usually $200+shipping

from what I know there are several different s-video mods so be carefull, also from what the techs at arcade have told me the cheap mod is simply crap and you get rainbow on transparencies etc. Basically you would probaly be better of with the xneo

You should get it modded.I got mine done by JMKurtz, and it's working great.I think he's offering the S-Video and Stereo plus debug bios for $65+shipping.

1) Yes. I'm actually planning to buy one. buttrock

2) Yes. Yet, being nothing as a collector item (modding is anyway freaking) I would not care about having the system boxed or whatever. I would just care of general system conditions for some mere cosmetic appeal. :)

3) Possibly. But as I'm planning to customize my selection of different 'mods' (implementing stereo sound, ultra video, bios chip, but no useless S-VHS), I think it would be very unlikely to find any already modded 'in my way' and ready to ship system. I would rather ask !arcade! to mod one of their unmodded system in their stock, according to my requirement.

Hope this helped! wink
