I've never had this problem before, so I come to you
tech guru's for an answer or maybe some guidance
as to what I should do.

My problem is yesterday, as I was surfing the boards,
I knocked a glass of water over - most of which landed
on my Sony Vaio keyboard. As I tried to wipe it all up,
about 20 seconds later - my laptop cut off completely.
I quickly wiped up all the visable water - took out the
ac adapter and the battery - waited 30 seconds, and
put them back in - no dice, wouldn't start up. After that,
I picked it up and water started coming out of the floppy
drive, so I pushed the tab on the back, pulled the floppy
out and let the water drain out, and wiped as much as
I could inside the bay with a towel, and I did the same
on the battery side.

I went to work, and checked a few online boards like
Anandtech - and a few of the threads mentioned that
if you let the water dry and you flip the laptop, keyboard
facing down - with screen open, and leave it there for a
few days - chances are, since it was just water - that you
may still have a laptop.

I am desperate for help, since the other pc upon death left
us with just this laptop (for three people) - and my dad will
kill me if it's not back up soon - so any advice or tips will be
so greatly appreciated!

I tried it last night after I got home, still no dice - but hope
remains and now I turn to you guys for any advice.

Please help! - Otherwise my dad will kill me :(

Thanks,

shir0

A buddy of mine spilt coffee on his laptop keyboard, it still works, but he lost 4 keys, you can press them all day and not get a charachter.

I cant offer any advice other than take it to some computer shop and have them check out the board for you, odds are the water has shorted something, that wouldn't be good.

I think you need to let it dry out for a few days as suggested. If its out of warrenty then you coupld maybe open the case up a use a hair dryer to speed up the process.

I gotta go with Hairdryer and wait a few days.

I'd like to say,

a couple years ago, I had this REALLY cheap desk, and I was on my gateway laptop with some water, and I put my foot weird on the leg of the desk. And the mutherfucker collapsed. Spilling watter all in the keyboard.

The laptop was and still is DOA.

Computers are generally more resilient than people think, if the computer is powered off there's an extremely good chance it's still ok.

However, if in your case the laptop is powered on when it happens, it's a good bet that your laptop is a paperweight.

I'd still let it dry for a few days before testing. Also, in the meantime I'd unplug it AND remove the battery.

I'd let it dry out for a few days..

I think temperature will matter on the drying out process.

Just make sure you get it totally dried out before you try it again..
Water can sit in places..You may need to take it apart.

I'm not sure how these look inside,..

But it may have a fuse that burnt out.

Yeah, whenever you spill water on electronics, it's always best to LEAVE IT OFF. open it up, and let it dry for awhile... even up to a week.
