I want to get FFXI for my PS2. I have a cable modem, but it's connected to my computer through a USB port. Of course the modem has an ethernet port on the back.

My question is, to use the Network Adapter, do I just need to buy a wire that fits into the ether net ports of the adapter and the modem?

I hope this question makes sense.

You may need to buy a router. I'm not sure if the cable modem you have has the ability to use USB and ethernet (not sure why it WOULDN'T work, but hey).

No matter what you do, you are going to need a network cable anyway, so why not buy a long enough CAT-5 (network) cable and try it out? Worst thing that happens is you find out it doesn't work, then you are right back where you started but with a little more knowledge.

youre gonna end up paying upwards of $3 per foot in a store

on the ebay however, you can score 50foot cables for less than $10

Yeah, you shouldn't pay more than $1 a foot, IMO, and even then that's kinda high if you can make your own. Radio Shack doesn't charge too much, if I remember correctly.

How much would a CAT-5 cost?

EBGames sell 10 foot bundles of cable for like $9.99.

You can pick up a basic Linksys router for around $50-60, then get two lengths of network cable for around $20 and you will be set to share the connection between your PC and PS2. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM, I can probably help you out.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to head to Radioshack tomorrow, I think.
