1.) Is there anything left out in the U.S. version from the original Japanese version?

2.) Where I can find either version if there are no cuts or the Japanese version if there are at a reasonable price?

Yes, I know it's just an "inferior port".

Inferior port or not, it's still a nice look back at the original FF1 story...plus Ryo as the new Mr. Karate is just too good

Controlls are a little too tight, and the backgrounds are now static. (Think Tekken 3) Other than that the game's great. Nice intros, PSOne exclusive character(s). Definately a pick up if you can find a copy.

I don't beleive anything was edited out of the north american version. With a game using poligons and block-art characters there's not exactly anything to be censored.

SouthTownKid may be a better person to ask as far as censorship.

Yikes, mentioned by name. Uh, all I have is the American PS port, so I don't know how it stacks to the Japanese PS port. I don't think anything was removed (from the japanese PS); at least I've never heard of anything. It's a fun little game with an engine somewhat similar to the Real Bout engine, with combination arts, the same button layout (punch, kick, heavy attack, line sway), etc. There are some combos that were in the Hyper version that are missing in the PS version, and the backgrounds are severely watered down from the Hyper version. On the other hand, being able to play as Duck and Ryo is a lot of fun, and the opening movie is very cinematic, and although dated, it's a must see for Fatal Fury fans. I'd recommend it -- any version you can get.

Actually, I think I'll go have a game right now.

edit: oh yeah, where can you get it...? I got mine from Chai, who traded someone else on these boards. I've seen a few on eBay here and there (in fact I see one right now with a BIN of $19.99. I've also seen one (way overpriced at about $30, but...) a couple months ago at GameDude here in CA. GreatKiller, a member here, works there. Maybe you could ask him if it's still there.

Sorry to have spooked you, SouthTownKid.

AS I've read around you and Beezlebubble seem the most brushed up on your Garou.
Since I remembered you actually remarking on Wild Ambition once before, I figured you'd be a better authority on the game. I suppose I assumed you'd played both versions.

Yet another serving of crow for me tonight.

Heh, I wasn't spooked, I guess I just think of myself as more invisible in the background here. Didn't mean to serve you crow or anything, I wasn't trying to be insulting or sarcastic (sorry if it sounded that way), I was just surprised is all. And even though I don't have the Japanese WA, it wasn't a bad assumption, because I do have the US and Japanese Samurai Shodown Warrior's Rage 2 for PSX...

Eating Crow and humble pie is an expression that kinda' means I have to eat the words I said. In other words, "I've been proved wrong." I didn't take it as being insulting...and I'm sorry to have put you on the spot.

Hmm...I picked up my copy from Rhino Games in Dalton, Ga. Paid $24.99 and $1.75 tax...so that's a total of $26.74. Pretty good for a game I otherwise would have gotten scratched up from the Movie Gallery here in town if and when it ever goes on sale. It's complete with a few minor scratches...definately a gamer copy. It's nice, and now that everyone's been on the subject, I'll have to dig out my PSOne arcade stick and give it another play.

Looks like I'll be shelving Final Fantasy VIII.... AGAIN! :tickled: At this rate, I'll never finish a console RPG!

I bought this game for $5 brand new and sealed at Hastings last May/June. They had a bunch there. Try some places like that, and if you don't have any luck I can see about scoring you a copy, if they still have them.

It's cool just to watch the intro, and the game plays alright but the mono sound and the graphics just got to me.

I saw that, but I'm really only looking for a new copy.

If I don't find something soon, I may have to see if we can work something out.

look for the 'now loading' screen featuring Mai... it's one of the coolest pics of her, and she's in street clothes! the port is a little chunky, but exudes style...

Well, it was only $5. Next time I'm up in Wichita Falls I'll check the Hastings and get it anyway (if it's there). If you find a copy, then I'll just put an LED on it and throw it in the selling forums for $500.
