Comic collector types, are these worth anything?

I won these at some junky comic shop like 7 years ago, and I was just wondering if they were worth anything.

Superman Spectra-Etch Holographic/Foil Card

This is slightly damaged, so I would say it's in "near-mint" condition. I didn't see any kind of numbering system or anything besides "S3", so I'll just hope someone recognizes it.

Ghost Rider: Spirits of Vengeance Comic

This is in pretty much perfect shape, so I'd say it's "mint". It's says "12 July" on it, but I have no idea what year it is. I imagine somewhere around 1991, judging by the ad on the back. It also says, "Direct Edition" on it, but I don't know if that would even matter.

So, would these fetch any cash on eBay?

comic prices went to shit after the crash in the mid 90's, and after they came out with the "grading system", where they seal the comics in the graded cases. nowadays if it's not graded you can't get the big bucks. a graded book with shoot the price up 200-300%.

i have a bunch of valiant books that were like 75+ each, one was worth 150, and now it's worth 23 bucks.

yeah i used to collect tons of comics growing up. had most of my collection stolen long ago and since then lost interest.
had found over 300 that i still had boxed up in storage and tried to sell them off a few months back.. tried selling em twice on Ebay without even a single bid either time & only found 1 local comic shop that even had any remote interest in em at all and the dude only offered $20 for everything...
so.... i'd get more satisfaction turning them into wallpaper or using em for a bonfire then getting rid of them for $20.
either that or i could just keep them until i'm old and pass em onto my grandkids[if i ever have any].

This is EXACTLY FUCKING RIGHT

The grading system ruined the market. Unless you pay money to send your books to a "professional" to grade their condition "officially", your stuff is'nt worth shit. Unless it's a 9.0+ it won't garner you anything. The fucking collectors have ruined the market...kind of like the Neo :annoyed:

I have a collection that dates back 23 years. I have 14 half boxes, and 23 long boxes of books. Plus so many rare and collectible items that it would give you a nose bleed. I have autographed stuff, posters, shirts, videos, figures, cards, you name it, I have it. And none of it is worth what I paid in the first place. I didn't get into it for the money (since I was 4 when I started collecting ;) ), but it sucks to know that all of the money you spent can't be recovered if you need to do it! I have a complete and full run of Daredevil from #1 to #368....and it is worth total shit. My X-Men #1, #94, Giant Size #1...all shit. Unless you have key golden age titles, or what is hot at the moment....forget about it.

The comic book market is teh bullshit lie, for real

I buy a 1-2 comics a month (right now only arrosmith, astro city, and teh new Conan), but even I know that the comics market is messed up.

If you miss 5-6 issues of your fav title, just wait and pick it up on ebay for 30 cents on the dollar. Madness I say.

I sometimes used to buy comics, but I bought them to read them.

My best friend at the time was a big collector (as big as you can be when your 10-14). He used to blast me for "reading" my only copy and not keeping them in pristine condition, of which he had a growing collection. I thought he was silly, I never say the point in collecting all the (at the time) hundreds of "collectors items" coming out at the time (but I did understand the collectability of much older comics). Of course, this was '89 - '93, so he's the one who ended up with egg on his face when the whole thing crashed.

Now he's the one who had a nervous episode, is fighting weight problems, and is sort of in college (still finishing a BA after 6 years) and I'm the president of my law school class and getting laid regularly... Hmm.

With that said, I still read'em occasionally. I really like reading the graphic novel collections of all the comics I never got to reading back in the day (like the entire Aliens series) -fortunately I live a 1/2 block from the main comic store in the Twin Cities: Big Brain Comics (with Amazon plugging in the holes).
