Do you ever feel like you are addicted to buying/selling/trading on the internet?

I've been noticing lately that I just deal so much for the sake of doing it. I don't even really use some of the stuff I get, I just open the package, look at what's in it, and move on to the next one. Sure, I really want what I get...but I don't need it. Every morning when I wake up I can't wait for the mail to come...I think I have a problem :spock:

Between here, s-c.com, my forum, e-bay, private deals, websites, and whatnot, I probably do anywhere between 3 and 10 transactions a week. I have been b/s/t on the net for years now, but it's getting out of control. Maybe it's because I just moved and I am not working yet and school doesn't start until June? Everyday I make a new deal, or sale, or purchase something...

Like I said, I want this stuff, but I don't really need it. I get things faster than I can use them, and I sell so many things that my trips to the post office are getting rediculous :annoyed:

What the hell is wrong with me? I am already chomping at the bit waiting for the mail to come tomorrow....

Do any of you guys ever think about this, do you have this problem too?

YUP. Besides games, I have 4 other hobbies I keep up with. I get on average a package a day (several on one day, one 2 days later, etc). I have a constant queue of things lined up on ebay/yahoo, plus online sites, newsgroups, side deals and actual physical store visits.

... and just like you said, I'll open a package... look at it, test it out (if possible) then put it away. It's so bad sometimes that I buy the same thing again because I forgot I already had one. However, sometimes I just buy multiples of stuff I really like to have some MIB. One of these days I'll write some software front-end w/ database to track my "inventory".

3 months ago -- OH HELLZZZZZZ YES.

Since, I've met a great girl, and my priorities are different now. I just need a break from games... I only buy like one every month now...

Like, this time last yr games made up most of my life. Now, it takes a backseat... which I like. Because IMHO, they shouldn't be life... there's so much more out there...

I'm not reffering to it taking up my life really. I have a wife and am looking for a new job and settling in after moving, but when I have free time, I'm looking for deals on the net. I used to spend my time reading, playing games, watching DVDs, and things of that ilk. Now my free time is spent shopping on-line or hunting the forums for trades. When my wife and I are not out, and I'm not busy, I think about B/S/T on the net....

I don't even really care about some of the stuff I get, I just like making deals :annoyed:

It's really weird....

you should consider picking up a stock trade hobby. It's even more exiting :) no, really !

Anyways, I had a couple of months like that as well, I bought at least 10 games a week. After a while I sold it all off at a nice loss and only kept my neo, which is my only true gaming love.

I guess your moment of selling it all of will come as well. At one time, you will look at your enormous pile of games and think; do they (or at least 90% of them) make me happy or do they give me any pleasure at all ? No will be your answer, they only cost shit loads of money and girls are scared by them.

So you will be remedied some day. Of course there is no argument about keeping the neo  Just one console doesn't scare chicks away either.

Yes. All the time. I do little things like making it more annoying on myself to trade, in order to stop myself. I also concentrate on the fact, that even though I can afford expensive carts easily, it only will plunge me into unnecessary debt. You gotta learn to think practically, not romantically. Just because you like one thing about an item isn't sufficient reason to purchase it. That's how I do it. I've been meaning to purchase sengoku3, and though it has good aspects, it's not worth spending ~145 on at the moment. If you have the slightest doubt about buying something go with that feeling. Don't buy it. It's when you override your doubt, built from your observation that you start becoming an impulsive buyer. You always say 'Ok, this is the last one.' 'It's ok. But I'm really happy with my purchase'. Somewhere you have to break the cycle by being practical. Set a limit of purchases per month and stick to it, and keep reducing it. Until you are making a base minimum. Optionally you can just stop trading/buying/selling altogether. Hope this helps. At the moment, I'm just gonna get myself a jaguar for playing tempest2000 and then call off buying for a while. Unless this new neostore shit is sufficiently impressive, I will not be buying it.

Yep - I used to be really bad about it. A couple of months ago I had like 2-3 packages a day coming in (mostly from e-bay), most of which consisted of DC and Neo games and accessories. Thankfully it has tapered off a bit - mostly due to a shortage of funds :D.

Shit motherfucker, the only thing I'm addicted to buying is Sakura Taisen stuff! And YOU know who is to blame for THAT! :D :help: But it's all good, 'cause I love it all!

To answer your question, no, I'm not addicted to b/s/t over the 'net. I go in fits in starts when I sell. I'll need money (not really) to pay a car bill or car insurance or something and I'll start selling off things I don't use and never will. I don't think, besides games in a lot where all you want is one game, like this auction where all I wanted was a Hanagumi Columns, I've never resold something I bought off of eBay. If I get it from eBay, it's because I want it for some reason. And if it's a game, and I only play it a couple times, you never know when you'll pick it up again.

I think the problem is that you don't have a job per se and an easy way to make some quick cash is to b/s/t on the internet. You should sell me all your ST stuff... :D :loco:

I have anywhere from 2-20 packages show up in a single week, but that's because I keep my DVD hobby going with tons of funds. This week I've gotten no less than 8 boxes from Rightstuf. I'm sure Nick Goracke loves the affiliate kick back he receives from MY purchases! :D

I am definitely in this category. I'm in qube's situation right now.

Sounds like me from a buyer's standpoint. I don't let it take over my life, but I'm always buying something, and it gets really annoying when you can't stop - all because you see something that you simply "have to have". Or even fulfulling a desire to "have every movie in the series". Right now, I'm waiting on 2 items that should be here today.

I only do maybe 1 or 2 transactions on ebay/online shopping, but when I first got eBay a few years back, I had packages coming in the mail every other day. I got to know my UPS/Mailperson pretty well that way. :loco:

I'm playing less and less games nowadays, but my obsession seems to be shifting to DVD Boxed Sets. I brought 3 alone last week.

I have to admit, all that stuff I brought kinda came in handy when I was deployed to the desert last year. I had a lot of free time on my hands, so I brought a bunch of games and movies that I hadn't played/watched up until that point.

I'm just addicted to buying in general; the internet just makes it easier to find stuff that I want. ;)

Yes. :tickled:

I had/have this problem. It only dies down when I have "something better to do" with my free time. Nothing unusual... but not neccessarily healthy!

I was on fire for a while, getting Famicom games back and forth, all my games for under 20-25, with the exception of my Famicom clone system, Mother/Earthbound Zero, Rockman & Forte, and several Duo games. I'm that kind of collector that gets bargains all the time.

On E-bay, I only Buy It Now stuff I REALLY been wanting, stuff that's been on my mind for a long time and coincidently end up being cheaper than the cheapest I've expected, or some things I've made a few failed attempts at but having some faith that my day would be coming.

But I tell y'all one thing though, the moment I see a game I've given up on searching for after a long time of looking, I'm going for it no matter how expensive that is.

And looking out the window at your mailbox everytime you hear a vehicle pass by your house is pretty insane.

Money isn't even really the issue with me. I always make enough to pay for what I'm buying, or I just trade. It's the making of the actual deal that is soooooo addicting :annoyed:

One solution, even though I don't use Paypal, make a PP account a totally different story and put all the spoils from what you're selling only into that and don't touch your essential greens.

That is exactly what I do. Like I said though, it's not the money. It's the addiction :D
