Is it possible to use controllers from different systems and rewire the actual controlers to be used on a ng system?

I ask, because I have 2 odd controllers for my ngcd system. They are big, awkward, and just seem cheaply made. They are 8 button controllers.

Big question really is, if I cut the controller cable and splice the ng wire with say a psx wire, wouold it work??? Or wouold I just be killing 2 controllers???

I would assume that it would be possible, considering that the controllers I have for the ngcd are 8 button and the psx controllers are also 8 buttons... I guess I just want to know for sure if anyone has tried this, or if it is even possible without me taking a chance of having dead controllers...

Thanks in advance,

it's possible by sacrificing a pad for the system.. simply splicing into the cables will NOT work.. i.e. psx uses only 5 wires, while for neogeo you need a wire for every button.. especially the newer systems use a controller chip that translates the button presses into signals that require much less wiring.

I agree. I've snooped around in other controllers and notice that PSX, Cube, and others use IC's to translate the button presses into something the system can decipher, therefore it only uses like five wires going to the system. What I've done is leave the PSX, Cube, etc. wiring alone and solder directly to the PC board where the button contacts are. Some of those PC boards are small and with a semi shaking hand can be frustrating.

Good luck.

or you can find old controllers and build your own cords while soldering the wires to the actual boards inside the controllers..
