The SoCal hookup is happening Saturday April 3rd @ 2pm... The place: Anaheim Hills, Orange County. No Cover, just bring your neo skillz. Minimum age limit is 18. Lettin ya know there will be Popeye's chicken aplenty on the premises, so if you're a SoCal gamer, you cannot afford to miss this!

Anaheim Hills is 30 minutes from long beach, 45 minutes from L.A., 20 minutes from Riverside, 1 hour from Santa Monica/Redondo Beach, and 1 1/2 hours from SD so no weak excuses about how ya can't make it.

Games on tap will be: KoF2k3, 2001, 98 | MS5 | Pochi | Last Blade 1-2 | Samurai Shodown 1-2 | Magical Drop 3 | Puzzle Bobble | MS3 | MotW + whatever else other games ya guys want to bring. Between myself, fakk2, Spark and Sonofx51 we have (5) aes home systems to game on + (1) mvs supergun courtesy of B.I.G.Psyche!! He is also bringing his Neo64!! Also on tap will be Xbox, Foosball, 4 player gamecube + a host of other games. Also a rare opportunity to play 2p linked Riding Hero (thanks to Fakk2 and ResoGlas)

Gaming screens will be as follows: 50 inch big screen (old one), (4) LCD flat panels, (1) wall projector (provided I can clear enough space), (1) 25 inch TV...mebbe more.

As if free Popeye's fried chicken wasn't a good enuf reason to show up for the meet, here's some added incentive:

(Making a change to how the (3) free mini posters being given away...Originally they were going to the first (3) ppl to arrive....But now MS5-mini, KoF2k3-mini and Sengoku3-mini are going to the (3) guys that are going out of their way to provide transportation for others. That would be SolidsnakeII, Kyosuke75 and Fakk2. Either first to arrive or rock/paper/scissors to decide who gets what

The Samurai Shodown / Puzzle Bobble bounty is still *in effect* Since no one won it last time (though sonofx51 and B.I.G. Psyche came close) the bounty has been increased to $20. Also another $20 to whoever proves themselves to be the best SS2 player.

(1) Full size MS5 poster to NEOryu if he can make it... otherwise it will be determined randomly (probably by drawing a name out of a hat) If NEOryu snags the MS5 poster then the random prize will be replaced with (1) gamers condition Soccer Brawl jp aes homecart and (1) full size SSzero poster.

Well, there is one game that is the ultimate measure of Neo Skill in my eyes....Samurai Shodown 1.

Spark has gotten the upper hand against me in our last 2 SS encounters (although he likes to switch to characters with a favorable matchup against my chars, crafty bastard, I'm stubborn and try to win with my favorite characters regardless of priority)

Regardless, until I beat him totally and unmercifully, SPark enters this SoCal hookup as the #1 seeded SS player.

Whoever can lay claim as the best SS1 player will walk away with $100. Of course that means you will have to go thru both me and SPark to win the jackpot.

Well so far, we've got:

(5) aes systems (me, sung, sonofx51, fakk2)
(1) supergun (mvs) + hyper64. (BIGPsyche)
(1) gamecube w/4 controllers. (me)
(2) modded xboxes (me, smokingit) mebbe a 3rd if sonofx51 wants to bring his also.

We're only going to have (6) tvs, unless someone wants to bring more or do the buy and return a flatpanel tv trick like me and spark are gonna do (which would kick ass) .. We can play some of the next gen stuff, but at the SDMeet it seemed like neo was getting the most play time.

Hi Fakk2 I have one extra set of neo av cables and a couple extra joysticks so you probably don't need to bring those. You will need to bring the power supply for your aes though. I also have ms1 on mvs so no need to bring that either ;)

Something I was wondering, who did the best in each game? I know Droid raped everyone in SamSho1, I was playing MOTW and looked over at the bigscreen to see him with with a perfect or only 10-20% of life taken out.

Tom's friend had a pretty damned surgical Haohmaru, and the matches I had with B.I.GPsyche on SS1 at the very end were awesome. B.I.GPsyche's Haohmaru had all the technical prowess of Tom's friend, but added more comprehensive knowledge of when to use kicks versus slashes and how to get one's opponent to open up for the damage that Haohmaru is capable of dealing. Oh, and I think Tom's friend can attest to the horror of the Sieger, Wan Fu and Jubei I wielded in SS2. To the credit of Tom and his friend, though, they admittedly were quite new to SS2, having spent the bulk of their time on SS1. At any skill level, though, Wan Fu and Sieger are undeniable and I seriously have to wonder why the hell Sieger and Wan Fu were ranked 8th and 11th respectively (out of 15) by Gamest. Oh well....

And then there was Last Blade 2. I guess no one plays that game? Only ONE person played either me or Red Fox on LB2. What happened there? I mean, fine, I can see how you'd be a little terrified after having witnessed Shigen crumple and mangle Akari's tiny frame match after match. But Akari (Red Fox) DID win several times. At that point, you can't tell me you wouldn't look at Akari and go "Huh...I can beat that little girl no problem." PLEASE tell me that someone will play LB1/LB2 next time? We travelled all the way to Atlanta for Neo Shodown '98 due to rumors of absurdly skilled Zantetsu and Washizuka players and were sorely disappointed. Come on, guys! Surely the West Coast can provide some better LB1/LB2 players?!! And yes, I am intentionally attempting to goad people into playing LB2 in order to beat my ass next time. =)

Was anyone playing KOF2K2? I damn sure would have loved to get some time in with Ramon. VIVA MEXICO!

In any event, hopefully next time there will be more competition on SS1, SS2, SS3 (pleeez!), LB1, LB2, KOF '98, KOF 2K2, and maybe even Martial Masters, SS64, and SS:Warrior's Rage? (Between scanning over a FAQ for Martial Masters and having my ass wiped by Jose/SonoFX51, I noticed that while the character names are rather uninspired, the gameplay is quite promising.) Come on, people, stop wasting money on those filthy "classic" inserts and go buy a PGM and a Hyper Neo! LOL! =)

And of course I would be remiss if I did not take the time to offer thanks to several of the people at this amazing gathering.

SonoFX51: A big thanks for bringing your PGM and Martial Masters. Red Fox and I had seen the game at Hi-Tech 21 in Little Tokyo several times and loved what we saw of the combos and animation in the demos, but the joysticks were always crap and we didn't even know what the game was called because it was running in Japanese. I guess it's time to get a PGM and a JROK. =)

B.I.GPsyche: Another big thanks to you for bringing your Hyper Neo and SuperGun. My Hyper Neo at home has been in need of repair for several months and I've been too lazy to fix it. =P That long session of Warrior's Rage and stumbling through remembering the special moves and POWs should be enough to make me get off of my ass and fix it this weekend! LOL! The people that were there and saw things like Slash Asura, Slash/Bust Hanma, Bust Ukyo, and Bust Galford's POW moves for the first time know the feeling I'm sure. Hell, anyone that has ever seen Bust Kazuki's win pose cannot argue that SS:WR is an awesome game. I'm sure your generosity has helped to foster a new lust for Hyper Neo hardware and software.... And really, isn't that what it's all about? =)

Droid: Last but certainly not least! I can't really put into words how much I appreciate what you organized and executed. It was truly the most fun I have ever had with the Neo. I can only liken the overall feeling of the event to the giddy, anxious excitement that you get when putting a new Neo cart into your system. =) As I mentioned in a previous post, Red Fox and I travelled all the way to Atlanta for Neo Geo Shodown '98, which (thanks to Ukyo/Travis) was one hell of an awesome gathering. I can honestly say that you definitely managed to surpass Neo Geo Shodown '98 in terms of raw fun factor and variety of events. I hope you are able to bless us again in the future with another get-together. And next time I'll try to stay more than 10 hours so that I can help clean up after the mayhem. =) My apologies, but I was quite tired by the end and Red Fox's head was about to split into two halves from a massive migraine. LOL! (Okay, well *I* thought his pain was funny...but that's just me...I'm sadistic like that.)

Also, a big thanks to everyone that attended and helped to make the event as special as it was. I seriously wasn't expecting much, but ended up having more fun than I've had in recent memory. The motley crew of Neo Geo fans was an awesome sight to behold, and meeting and speaking with many of you was more than half the fun. I wish everyone the best and hope to see you all in attendance again, should Tom be gracious enough to host a similar event in the future.

Alas, yes Naoe got the better of my Gen-an either 4-1 or 3-1, but that wasnt my haohmaru ya smacked down so lets not get too carried away here. Thats the downside of being the host I guess, ya get distracted a bit. I think my total gameplay time came out to around 1 hour out of 10. Had I known I'd hear some smack about it, I would have said F*ck the guests. Lets settle this over a course of hours and if you would have been able to continue the trend you might have seen me break out MY haohmaru and hanzo, but i have confidence that Gen-an would have adjusted to your style and turned the tide ;)

Anyways if ya can keep the "in-game" chatter down I'd definitely like to hook up sometime in the future to see how this plays out. If not, then definitely at the next large scale hookup.
