I'm deeply thinking about getting these two games on CD as there isn't a chance in hell at the age of 16 I could save up for the AES versions. Just wondering are the loading times so bad it's worthwhile going without these games? Also what extra's do they have if any? thanks

dunno about Last Blade, but I used to have SS4 on my NEO CD...

the loading times are iffy, but at least the load screen gives you a little story...plus just have some beers while playing and you'll appreciate the time you have to throw 'em back before the next fight...:D

the blood code can be a pain to put in sometimes but all in all I'd say if you can't get the cart it's a decent trade-off..

(cuz Kazuki rules)

last blade 2's loading times are by far some of the worst on the neo cd. it is only rivaled by sam sho RPG which is virtually unplayable due to it's insanely long loading times.

For some reason, I find the loading times in SS4 relaxing. (?)
There are 2 single player modes, arcade and story.
Indeed, as Kazuki Dash has said, in Story mode, the loading screens consist of backing story wich are pretty interesting.
However, in arcade mode, you get the usual P1 Vs. P2 screen.

For some reason, I find them pretty relaxing to watch it, dunno why.

LB2 loading times are horrible! I think the game is great but loading just plain sucks. As an alternative, maybe look into the Dreamcast version as the loading time is pretty good but doesn't play as good as the NGCD in my opinion.

SS4 loading time is sloooow too but not as bad as LB2. I like this game a lot and play this on my supergun MVS setup instead.

yeah I've had a dreamcast since launch and was thinking about getting LB2 for it but to be honest it just don't feel the same not running on Neo hardware. I know the dreamcast can do sprites really well, what I like to see is a old piece of hardware still being able to impress me today :)

Would it be worth my while just to get LB 1 if the loads are any less?

I couldn't deal with the loading times on Last Blade 1, so as soon as I had the chance I bought the AES version. In fact I put my CD up for sale, it's not worth keeping.

If someone could give me a comparison of the load times of SSIV compared to the load times of LB1 that would be very helpful.

I can stand SSIV but if it gets any worse...I just do not know.

Considering I am thinking of making a purchase on this game could someone either pm about it or instant message me. Thanks.

The problem with Last Blade is that it has to load EVERY fight. Also, the pre fight intros and some animations are cut to hell. SSIV only loads once at the start of the round, so it's not too bad at all.

I have the dreamcast version. It's pretty close to the Neo Geo version but not quite. In the background in the burning house you can see the heat waves on the Neo Geo version, but it is absent in the Dreamcast version.

SS4 have some huge loadings, but just one for fight, and it solid like the MVS and AES versions. And you get some background story bits at the loading screens.

LB2 sucks at loading, too much huge loading for every fight, almost unbearable. I gave up to play it on NGCD to play teh rom.

But these two games are cool to have at NGCD because the sound and the extra artworks at the loading screens.

Some loading time stat

Samurai Shodown 4

Loading initial start menu 32 secs
Load 1 player intro 36 secs
Load fight one 25 secs
Load fight two 33 secs

comment: Takes a long time to get to fight - especially the first one and this is a problem. Once you get past the first level however , things start getting just about bearable.

Last Blade 2

Loading initial start menu 23 secs
To load 'Character Select' 14 secs
Intro Level one 21 secs
Pre Fight posing 40 secs
Fight Level one 36 secs
Outro Level one 11 secs
Intro Level two 11 secs
Pre Fight posing 30 secs
Outro Level two 20 secs

A JPN Last Blade 2 cart goes for around $250...maybe close to $300. Don't punish yourself with the CD load times. Save up for the AES version if you plan on playing it a lot.

The load times for LB 2 as everyone says is horrible on the neo cd!:(
I have the DC verision but there is no blood code for it,
which I think really sucks.
Samurai Shodown 4 from what I remember, loadtimes
where pretty long, havent played it for long
now since I have gotten an AES!:D

Samurai Shodown 4's loads are not bad at all. Honest, there is only one semi-long load between rounds and that is about it.

I own The Last Blade on CD and actually those load times you gave are not accurate. It actually loads more than that.

It loads the start menu,
then the character select,
then the vs screen,
then the stage screen,
then a 50 second load,
then pre-fight posing,
then you get to play 2 to 5 rounds,
then it loads the after character saying,
then it starts all over.

Yet, keep in mind that there is a demo-cut feature in the game and an enormous amount of extras.

With the demo-cut on, there is only one 50 second load between rounds.

Plus, the system saves all of the story scenes so you can see them at any time. It also saves every characters ending. There are some other extras I have not discovered yet.

The fact that you can save the story and all the endings makes the CD worth buying.

I got Last Blade 2 on cd, it's playable as long as I use demo cuts :glee:

A shame I know, but once I've seen them once I'd have skipped them anyway

Cant beat the price though..... much cheaper than AES. MVS is the best route if you can afford the up front costs.

The loads in SS2 are worse than SS4? That does not make any sense. Are you sure? Can you give a list comparing load times of the two? I am very interested.

I know it doesn't make sence being a smaller meg count, but I'm sure it's the case, I'll get a stopwatch and compare - wait this space
