Question about AES KOF '96?

Here is a question for anyone who own's the home AES version of The King of Fighters '96. I own the Neo Geo CD version of this game and was wondering the difference in muisc?
Now I am not asking about the quality of the music, the CD of course would be better. But let me use Wolfgang Krausers opera song for an example.
The song used is one of Mozarts works with operatic singing. Is this the same song used in the cartridge version? The reason I ask is the old Fatal Fury Special for AES had an instrumental version of the song, while the CD version had an operatic version.
So does King of Fighters being a newer made game have the operaic version and Athena's singing or is just instrumental? Thank you in advance.

Mozart's Requiem in D Minor, K626

The name of the song used as Wolfgang Krauser's theme in Fatal Fury 2, Special, and KOF'96 is an excerpt from Mozart's Requiem. This is the Third movement of the peice, first sub-movement, Dies irae.

If you ever want to look for a recording, the requiem can be picked up rather cheaply. (From $6-23, depending on the orchestra and quality.)

FFS for AES used a Synthesysed soundtrack. (Think Midi.. *.mid) The NGCD, Saturn, and PSOne releases all use an excerpt from a professional recording. (Though, which orchestra I've never found the information from. Not that it makes much difference, except that some composers choose the slower or faster beats per minuite as a personal taste.)

KOF '96 AES/MVS won't be blasting the glorius German lyrics you may have come to enjoy, but it will offer a comparable synthesysed arrangement that during gameplay you won't notice any.

Note: For anyone wondering, Krauser's theme in the Real Bout games is from the same Requiem, but it uses the eighth part of the third movement, Lacrimosa. Often found as K626 Lacrimosa for those looking for recordings.

Hope this helped.

Edit Note: Corrected horrendeous errors as to movements. The Requiem itself only has eight movements. But, me in my sleepiness listed track numbers as movements. Quite a faux pas.

Mine apologies, mine fureor.

Yes it helped alot. Thank you. That is one of my favorite pieces of Mozart. Now does the same go for Athena's theme? I would guess so...but I don't like to guess. Thanks!

Yes, Athena's Psycho Soldier Remix '96 would be an arranged version on the AES/MVS, as well as the rest of the BGM.

There are exceptions in video games where vocals are used in BGM--Waku Waku 7, Matrimelee, and Marvel Vs. Capcom (Roll's theme.) But these are done rarely. Mostly because it'd be hard to hear character noises and sound effects against lyrics.

One other exception may be the Psycho Soldier ending from KOF' 95. It had a special song for the PSOne version. I don't know about the Neo versions though. You'd be best asking someone on the boards currently playing KOF'95. (But then, you were only asking about KOF'96.)

Well the question could go very well with any KOF game but KOF '96 was the one with the most vocals (that I could remember). Thank you, you have been very helpful with the info. I figured I would get some stupid answers like "buy it and find out" or something like that. :p

Having "Buy it and find out," being given as advice for any game other than Final Fantasies and the $2.xx trade in copy of Madden Football '95 I have trouble with.

It's one thing to give that advice in the context of: "This game's really bad, dude!" "How bad is it, really?" "Buy it and find out!"

Sure, some games like that are worth the two to three bucks for a few laughs.

An MVS or AES purchace shouldn't really be thought of so lightly. Especilly since you're out a few hundred dollars after your purchace. (Even though there are those members who can drop such a chunck of change and never flench, lucky devils.)

Always consider carefully what you want to pick up. Be sure you can put a lot of time into one of these if you're going to pay the several hundred for a cart. At least with this system the cart retains aroud the same value, so if you're ever in a scrape, you can sell it for about the same price you picked it up at.

If you do decide on a cart purchace though, you may want to consider having a set of bios and dipswitches installed. That way you can enable play of Chizuru and Goenitz in '96. (Not like I've had it done....so sad that I read up on these things and never get to try them out.)

Glad I could help, and enjoy KOF'96.

And remember, the boards can be quite informative. It's one thing to be ignorant of something, it's quite forgiveable, and most people won't mind filling you in.

*puts on professor's cap*
I can answer that one...
;)

the special Psycho Soldier ending for KOF 95 is present, at least in the NEO CD version of the game, which is what I have...

it's a nice touch, but it doesn't have the same effect on me as the normal ending tune on the NEO CD (Sunset Sky IV)

Interesting....I'm unaffected in any way by the Sunset Sky IV theme.......

It's not as though I'm super happy with the Psycho Soldier theme (ending theme/nach!) either. Meh....to each his own.

Personally, my favorites would be Yuri's stage from AOF2/MOTM/KOF R-2, C62ShiroKuni (Yamazaki's theme), Bloody (New Faces Team), and London March (Billy Kane's theme). Then there'd be Mad Fantasy (Orochi Chris), Fairy '96 (Chizuru), and possibly Ne! (Female Fighters' team '94.)

Jeesh....perhaps it's unhealthy to know the titles to these songs. Oh well......

C'est la guerre. --KagerouSama
