You can also send them back to Sony for a FREE repair. PM Chris1 as he's always ready with the information. No point in taking it apart if you don't have to, right?
Thank You slerch666 ..
I've sent two PS2 myself to SONY for free repair..both have been opened by me..
+ I've had other PS2s sent to them..
NOTE: now SONY will NOT Repair the systems for free if "opened"..
If the Void Sticker is broken then they will charge you....
I did a repair on my landlords Son's PS2 a few weeks ago..
They brought it to me in pieces,,I mean pieces..he even removed that fine silver wire to the front switches..
The system had gave them a full DISC READ ERROR ..then no power..
I called SONY for the free repair and he said they will no longer take it if it's been opened..I/he would have to pay $103.00 + Shipping..
I wanted to tell the guy to go.....f ..H..S....but I didn't.
I put the PS2 back together..Reset the lens by just pushing it all the way to it's starting position and it worked..it now reads all discs..
It's been working for a few weeks now and it's still working..
Though I think I got lucky since I didn't go through the instructions in the internet site links found to fix the PS2s..
So it may not work for everyone..
..................................................................................
Well I'm usually the person who will say send it to Sony for a Free repair and provide the info..
They used to fix the system if the seal was broken..(For Some Reason)but now they won't and they want $103.00 for the repair without shipping...(Fk That)If Opened/otherwise it's still free.(that I know of)
If/when I have to open a PS2 I cut the seal with a razor where it meets the split in the casing so no void will be present if I had to return the system.
When you put the system back together the seal still looks good..
Here's some Repair info I save for anyone who needs it..
http://www.geocities.com/djyayo/faq4.html Just Watch out for the Pop-ups..
Basically if you do a search on the internet you will find all kinds of repair info now..including scotch tape methods etc.
Otherwise I'd open the system..take off the driver hood/start the system up with NO DISC INSIDE and push the lens on it's track back to it's starting position..
Then put the hood back on..Disc in and reset the system..
You could also try going into Diagnostic in the systems menu
Press the Triangle(Version)
The scroll up to Console -Press Triangle Options and turn on Diagnosis..
Sometimes this will reset the lens.
You can also call Sony and they will walk you through this process to get it right..1-800-345-SONY.or 800-345-7669
(something else that is at some point and link on the internet)
If this system is just not reading discs you can fix it yourself..
