It's gotta be fake. No one could be dumb enough to pay that much (let alone much of anything) for roms.

I've seen dudes sell dvds of rom sets for around the same price. Seriously.

Did ya see what the guy included in his auction... here it is:

Copyright Protection Exemption Granted to Obsolete Videogames

Quote: "In response to a filing by Brewster Kahle of The Internet Archive, Lawrence Lessig of Creative Commons, and others, the Librarian of Congress granted exemptions from copyright protection measures in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to obsolete videogames. The exemption applies to games that require the original media or hardware as a condition of access, and it determines a format obsolete "if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace."

According to the original filing, the exemption was proposed in order to migrate degraded and obsolete works to modern storage systems, and enable "archiving, future scholarship, and commentary." On October 28, 2003, the Librarian of Congress, on the recommendation of the Register of Copyrights, announced the classes of works subject to the exemption from the prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works. The four classes of works exempted are:

**about ROMS**(3) Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and which require the original media or hardware as a condition of access. A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace.

my buddy gave me a dvd of about 3000+ games, including just about every neo game I can think of up to about 2000.

I gave it to my brother....and haven't heard of it for 4 years. My guess is he sat on it or broke it trying to get gum off his shoe with it,lol...

ROMS ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY! imo ;)

The LOC decision is real....

It DOES not apply to the NEO GEO....

A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available.

MV1-C machines are still available BRAND NEW. THerefore it is not obsolete.

AES machines are still READILY AVAILABLE!.

Besides, the dribble he spews is not an exemption to the copyright law, but an exemption to the portion of the DMCA which forbids bypassing copyprotection.

Neo Geo software has NO COPY PROTECTION (except for a few newer games that have encryption) so it doesn't even apply to it.

The LOC exemtion mainly applies to microcards and Reel to Reel audio.

Furthermore, you are required to comply with non-dmca copyright law that stipulates that the backup copy must be publicly available and kept on the institution's premisis. This guy isn't even a library/museum so he does not have said rights.

Most people that talk about the recent LOC ruling, have no idea what they are talking about.

Mame roms are available FOC, look up FreeMame (not linked intentionally). just send the mame rom burner in your part or the world three blank DVDs (may be 4 with the cojag HD images) and a couple of bucks for return postage and you have the roms for the latest version. Who would want to buy them or download them on dialup modem, even worse who the fuck would want to sell them on e-bay.
Please dont flame me- Im only stating fact here.

Not that I am supporting him in anyway, as rom selling is wrong... immoral... and illegal... but the US Law does not apply to him as he is in the UK and only selling to the UK... Maybe the laws there are different in some aspect???

I believe they're the pretty much the same regarding copyrights Infringements.

However, ebay.co.uk can still kick the arse out of him.

Hmmmmm .... that law is pretty vague. WTF does "no longer reasonably available mean"?

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually payed that for teh romz. They're much tougher to find these days than they used to be ..... not that I've tried but you know :D :loco:.
