I want to see what others here have had for life expectancies for their memory cards....

Mine is 13.

Also, if you had a memory card crap out on you, please reply at what age did it crap out (if you know), how it happened, and how it behaves when it does shit the bed.

What about the loose memory cards I've recently acquired in various deals? There's no easy way to tell how old they are.

But I can tell you this, I have received two memory cards that simply refuse to save. Yes, the battery is dead. I've been meaning to do the battery replacement trick as seen on www.hard-mvs.com, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

@ freelancer or anyone: Really just give it your best shot. If we get enough good and hard data on this, maybe a FAQ can be written up for the website. Good stuff to know given the present state of the NEO right now.

OK, well I have the following cards:

*2 older style (black with the cardboard box/vinyl sleeve/etc). These are the original ones, so I'd estimate that they are at LEAST 10-13 years old. Both work fine and save files.

*3 Marble Cards (2 loose, one with the plastic case). These are the cards that SNK released later on. I'd estimate that these are from around 1995 or 1996 since I'm positive that SNK phased out the majority of their hardware production around that time.
Only 1 of these works...the other 2 give me "errors" whenever I try to save or format them.

I put in a vote for my oldest one. Shame we can't vote more than once as I still use my 6 cards depending on what I want loaded, and I do know the age of more than one of them.

Anyhow let the poll continue.

Damn NBM i'm sorry about that, I shoulda thought of catering to those who have multiple cards.

Could a MOD here change the properties of the poll to "multiple choice" without changing the data? Thanks!

Anybody who has saved his stuff for a prolonged time?

Your VIEWPOINT-level 5 data for example;)...if i ever get as far,i think i'd keep that data forever.

I bought mine with an AES system and a Ninja Combat and a WH2 cart, and it had at least a WH2 save in it. It's reasonable to believe that the MC was bought together (by the original owner) with the WH2 cart, at least.

So, I voted in 10 years. It can be a bit older or newer, but it's a close shot, I believe.

I bought mine in what appeared to be new condition - about a year ago. It has probably been sittin' on the shelf for at least a few years though.

I have had data on my card for > 10 years, and its still there.
I will say however that I cannot view the memory card properly when I have my Debug BIOS enabled. To view the card normally, I enable my stock BIOS.

Yep,

I had mine for 13 yrs. I use it for both my AES & MVS and it works great still! I'm pretty sure I have info saved on it from the first time I used it on SSII & KOF'94. Not sure how long it will last, but why fix something if it still works huh? :smirk:
Hah, I remember when I first took my memory card to the local arcade in Ketchikan and used it in a big red to instantly play the SS II boss, the next day they covered up the memory slot. Hah, the owner was giving me dirty looks too  .

Man - I don't know why I even still own mine. This thing is totally useless. I guess it's just the completist nutjob collector in me.

Mine is the original one I bought when I bought the system when it first came out. It still has my first save I made on it Nam 75. Plus a few newer ones age unknown.

I don't know how old both my cards are but I don't have to worry about them kicking the bucket anytime soon. I had the batteries replaced in both of them a few months ago so they should be good for another 10 years with some luck.
