The subject is self-explanitory. I'm thinking that a Consolized MVS might be the way to go, but I want to learn more about it. What is it- is it an MVS PCB inside an AES shell, as I think it is? What are the pros and cons of a Consolized MVS when compared to a Supergun?

TIA, fellas! :)

Some Pros:

All the expensive AES games cost less $$$ on MVS.

There are alot of good MVS Only Titles.

Every MVS game works with MVS hardware.
(Unlike the problematic "Phantom-1 Converters")

You can use the same Memory Cards on both AES and MVS.

Same thing with all Neo Geo Joysticks, provided your PCB has joystick ports. (Or you can add joystick ports with a consolized system)

The Uneverse Bios on MVS is much easier to install when there are upgrades.

Games are typically easier to find for the MVS system than on the homecart system.

The Cheap Ass MVS Sales from the Neo Store and Arcade Shock, just like the recent one last weekend! Samurai Shodown 5 for only $99.00..... That day will never happen with the NGH system!

MVS Games drop down in price all the time.

Cons:

I dont really see any cons for owning a consolized system. With all the money you save in buying games, you can easily afford a supergun too.

A consolized mvs setup looks better than a PCB hooked up to a supergun.

almost. there are certain problems with the newer carts and the older mv-1 boards, mv-1f in particular. rage of the dragons comes to mind and i've heard about a few other although don't have any firsthand experience with them. not to nitpick, just making sure he gets all teh facts.

One thing that was not mentioned clearly (however implied by Mr Robert Wallace) is that with a consolized unit, you cannot play SVC Chaos PCB's, nor any other jamma type pcb. Nor could you use an Atomiswave, if you were interested in doing so.

In order to play these, you would need a super gun or cab.

One thing people often forget to mention is that while MVS carts are cheaper, home carts tend to hold their value. Unless you buy at release, in which case they'll fall, you can get a good turn-around on home carts if you decide to sell. Bootlegs are also an issue if you go MVS. Still, it can't hurt to have an MVS board (consolized or running through a gun) around. Who wants to pay a grand for Metal Slug, right?

I'm not worried about the value, I just wanna play the games. The collectors factor should always take a second seat to the gameplay, right?

kafuin, thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind when I shop around for a one-slot board.

Anyways, I'd still like to see some pics of a Consolized MVS. :)

I'll throw out a question since I can't seem to find any answers on it. Is there any way to consolize a 2+ slot board and make it "Static-proof"? So that if someone had cats (like me) and was paranoid about static (like me) they could keep the consolized board out in the open and have NO fear of static ruining the board. Ideally this would basically cover the console like the Saturn-shell 1-slot NGT made, but with a 2-slot or higher.

Definitely. Just making sure all the info gets thrown out there. :)

There were lots of pictures up on broken's site, but it's down. Anyone know if it's coming back?

For a gamer, there is no comparison, MVS hands-down. Metal Slug AES = $1,000+, Metal Slug MVS = $50. 'nuff said. I got a consolized MV-2F built by Robert Wallace, with a Unibios, wich allows me to play the games in MVS or AES mode. I have the following six games for it so far:

- King of Fighters '99
- Metal Slug
- Metal Slug X
- Bust-A-Move
- The Last Blade
- Real Bout Fatal Fury 2

Total price for the six games was just a hair over $250. That's less than the price of a new Phantom-1. Also, the MV-2F lets me save high scores for games (although there is a limit to how many different games' data can be saved simultaneously); an AES, even with a memory card, won't save high score data.

I will take some pics of the consolized 2-slot when I get home, and will post them, if no one else has before then.

consolised MVS is the way forward!! I love mine. You get the beauty of the neo nice and cheap and since its consolised you can play all games in aes mode which means you get all the options. This means being able to use 'vs' mode in fighters (ie not having to stick with the same fighter after winning against a mate). Plus there is so much more. They look great and you can get nice shockboxes with nice inserts blah blah blah.
Only downside is....and this really is THE only downside for me:
no SVC MVS cart!!! this pisses me off so much cause it means I have to keep an AES too cause I love the game bla blah blah :D
hope this helps
