It's Dreamcast with a little more RAM, isnt it? And it's inferior to Naomi? A six Year Old Aracade Standard? Wow. DC graphics tend to look even less spectacular than Model 3 graphics. Wierd.

Plus, the candy coloured shell is unnatractive.

This was discussed at length back in the fall.

Anyways, it's basically a Dreamcast, as is the Naomi, only the Naomi has more RAM.

It's supposed to sit inside of the cab, so people won't just look at it nor care about its color. What I like a lot about the design as that everything is covered by the plastic shell, instead of leaving all the mobo parts in the open like most arcade boards, like MVS.

Yeah, but look how awesome the Naomi family looks! Naomi looks fucking solid, and built to last. Atomiswave looks un-durable. Its a real shame.

Are all of these Atomiswave boards just built from unsold and unloved DC systems? I get the impression they were.

Well, sorry but I don't agree. I've got an atomiswave and it looks damn solid and compact. I've never seen a Naomi in person, but from the pics, it doesn't look that compact, basically because you could need a lot of additional stuff to operate it: GD lector, I/O board, sound board, additional power supply, etc....

You should feel one; They are strong as hell (and damn heavy).

From what I understand, Sammy bought all the remaining DC chipsets to use for AW, and not completed Dreamcasts.

I was disappointed with the specifications. I was expecting more memory and a much faster processor. Atomiswave owners, please speak out, let us know what you think of the hardware and its capabilities.

It looks pretty solid to me.....

The selling point is it's cheapness (including game prices) and jamma compatability. Naomi just required to much investment to have a huge install base. Any jamma cab can easily be upgrade to AW.

Also I find it's funny that a bunch of neo fans are making comments about it's "Lack of Power".

The DC is considered to tops in 2d gamming.

The Neo, when it was released, was an extremely powerful system. The AW in my opinion is lacking power. We will just have to wait and see what it is capable of.

Look at all the sweet shit the Neo Geo can do. Give me that with more memory and I'd be happy.

And look what we have here: That and a bunch more. Ta-daaa! I'm happy.

Admitedly, I dont know shit about the hardware. Naomi kind of gives me an erection though.

Thanks for learning my ass on Atomiswave. Unless the game library starts to get more interesting, I dont see myself getting it. I dont think this will be as prolific as some hope it would be. Though, its already 20 times the machine the Crystal hardware was.

Yeahh, Atomiswave reaks of 'budget' in a big way. The games look nothing better than whats already 5 years old in the arcade. Most of the stuff is 3D as well. I wonder if they can milk this like they milked the Neo,.,,

God, remember the Crystal? What a joke!

In my opinion, the AW is more than powerful enough to do the stuff in 2D we all love and expect. I agree that for 3D graphics it's only average, but I don't think we need more.

I also agree the current library of games is not very appealing, but it is supposed to have a great future with SNKP, Sega and Sammy working on it. It's also a pretty cheap and easy arcade system for operators, and even for home users like us.

I never looks at the specs of a system for judging it, I just check the games and see how are they like or what games are supposed to come in the future... The Neo was more powerful than the consoles at that age (and it was also much more expensive), but not really that much powerful against other arcade systems like CPS1. And I find most of the first Neo games to be quite bad, even for that age.

I see the AW going one of two ways. First, SNKP and Sammy use it to release many completely 2D and some 2D/3D games (with the odd completely 3D game, like Demolish Fist). The AW hardware is more than powerful enough to handle 2D games for a few years. Hell, if the announced KOF 2K4, Metal Slug 6, and Samurai Spirits-AW games are completely 2D, hi-res, and are on par with KOF 2K3, Metal Slug 5, and SSV in terms of playability, I will have considered the system worthwhile owning if nothing else at all comes out.

Secondly, Sammy and SNKP may decide to switch to mostly 3D games, and the system will become the next Hyper64 (too little power too late for 3D, and (IMO) SNK franchises should have remained 2D). The AW is not powerful enough to handle pure 3D games that can compete with what the current generation home consoles can offer (well, not the GC and XBox, anyway).

I'm hoping for option one.
